I want to express my personal express to You and to CrusaderJeff for giving of the text and enlightment, what chorus sing. This theme is so beatiful, and after many years, I glad to be sure, what I understand the song correctly.
I've always found this one as beautiful as Baba Yetu. A new heaven and a new earth from God. Beautiful, Poignant and Meaningful. Will always be my favourite Civ
Yeah, I remember people not liking OG Civ V. G&K helped, and BNW helped even more, but Vox Populi and the 4 unique components for every Civ mods are what really elevates Civ V above its peers. Add in Tectonic map script master version for more control over map randomization and features and its one of the best in the genre, period.
Imagine someday mankind finally finds an actual livable planet out there and decides to built a whole new of society, a society of conscience, fairness, and compassion, and as we are opening a new settlement there, we sing this song together while holding hands.
One can imagine... Though, considering mankind's fallen/imperfect nature, a long-lasting society like that is improbable at best, sadly; just look at humanity's history, for example... The text used here in this song, however, Revelation 21 from the Bible, is talking about Heaven, instead. Quickly summarizing the chapter, the text says that, at the end of time, God will destroy this universe and everything in it (which is fallen/imperfect/corrupted) and will create everything anew, that is, Heaven (verse 1). There, the corruption of the old will be washed clean, and everything will be made perfect with no pain, sorrow, death, evil, etc. (verses 4, 27). The "New Jerusalem" (verse 2) is a picture of a city in Heaven used in the text, a place where God Himself will dwell among mankind; there, people won't need a temple/religion (verse 22) as God will be right there with them and they will see Him (thus, no more need for faith). Every nation will be there, in full glory and splendor (verse 26) in peace and compassion, with the Eden of old being fully restored (chapter 22, verse 1-5). Also compare Isaiah 65:17-25. As a Christian myself, I know that we are to strive for peace, fairness and compassion while here on this earth (and, fingers crossed, other planets as well, should they exist); but also, knowing that this universe is corrupted and broken, we are to have hope for that final day when things are made whole again in heaven.
The Industrial Revolution was possible with Water Powered Factories, River barges with canals, Steam Powered Factories possible with coal, Steam Locomotives, Steam centralized heating, demand for cotton clothes, Automobiles, the Internal Combustion engine with gasoline (refined from petroleum), Mass Production, the Assembly Line, Airplanes, Natural Gas centralized heating, Nuclear Fission Reactors powered by Uranium, the Saturn V, the Space Shuttle, and someday Nuclear Fusion Reactors powered by Hydrogen.
Many grammatical errors in the lyrics: 0:33 Should be "Terra nova a deo". There is an extra -m which makes the case of the adjective "nova" (new) disagree with the noun "terra" (earth). 1:05 "Terra novum" should be "terra nova" - again case and gender both disagree. 1:36 and 1:51 Again, "Terra nova" not "terra novam" And many more such occurrences...
It's a shame they choose a singer who uses strong Italian accent instead of pure Latin. Even though the song is beautiful it would be much better if it was pronounced 100% correctly
It seems more appropriate for the Ecclesiastical Latin pronunciation since this is the Vulgate translation of Revelation and the style is different from the Classical Latin of Cicero.
I ended up here because I had totally forgotten civ 5’s theme (despite how much I’ve played it) because in the comparison the fucking godlike compositions Christopher Tin has created, this one is just so…bland
@@Elemental-Phoenix ironic is how much of a masterpieces 4 (vanilla, but Beyond the Sword one is good too) and 6 (Gathering Storm) themes are, but I'm playing 5 the most, while 4 and 6 have played only barely (to be fair my graphics card is too weak to run 6, though I also dislike how complicated the game has became thus more stressful). 5 theme is not bad per se, I can respect the effort and don't want to hate on the people involved. It's just extremely bland indeed, thus bores and annoys me. Good thing you can replace it pretty easily, which I've did.
Et absterget Deus omnem lacrimam ab oculis eorum: et mors ultra non erit, neque luctus, neque dolor
That's what the chorus around 1:25 was about
Revelation 21:4! I couldn't seem to find this anywhere and hearing the choir was rather difficult, but now that you wrote it, it makes sense. Thanks!
@@autokratao Yes, it was truly difficult, I heard more than 10 times and compared the latin texts of Revelation to confirm the content =)
Stämmer!
This song man.... it pulls me to tears almost every time.
Its the Bible. Revelation 21.
Scripture is the first thing you hear when playing Civ I, IV, and V
Baba Yetu is pretty much scripture
@@MrKralr Exactly, it's the Lord's Prayer

No problem, I'm glad that this helped you out!
The lyrics are so moving
They're not lyrics. It's literally the Book of Revelation.
Basically you've heard the Bible

Goated theme
This soundtrack just hits. It literally marks the point where Civ V went from trash to the best 4X game ever made.

The song is in Ecclesiastical Latin (and so is most music of this style), hence the modern Italian accent.
