It is easy to beat up on the corporates. But a society that does not give its entrepreneurs, wealth- and job-creators love and respect, is doomed to be frozen in a low-middle-income hole. That’s where India is now located. If it has to reach middle-income status in the next 15-20 years, a lot of Indians will need to work very long and productive hours. I'm so impressed by the doublethink these giants of industries are spewing out. These champions of free markate capitalism want people to sacrifice for the greater good. If you want them to work for you 7 days a week just pay them market rate. So simple.
No. What they want is 7 days per week with no extra cost to their pockets. They want slave labour in short.
I am a recruiter with a major organisation. I will fill up whatever positions you have open where you want people to work for you 7 days per week. We are a country of 1.4 billion people. Its not really a difficult task. The only caveat is that you have to pay them for their time. Their time away from their family their time spent in leisurely activities is valuable. If they are not compensated for it they won't work for you.
You won't accept a bad deal in business, why should they?

Ah, Shekhar Gupta-perched in your ivory newsroom, glorifying 70-90 hour workweeks for no extra pay. Try surviving as a recent graduate in these companies before polishing billionaire boots. But why bother? Feudal cheerleading suits you.

If it became possible to transfer the energy & vitality of employees to ultra wealthiest bosses, Shekhar would likely support that, without any consideration or moral responsibility, all the while patting his own back.

All the example you have give are all under staffing, and in those case people are forced to work extra hours.
