Great video @SteveAndAlexBuild I really learned a lot from it. Can I ask what was the dry stuff you were dropping under the pavers before tapping them level?
Nice job… but I’d always put a couple of boards down on the drive before demo and definitely some dpm or summin on that tarmac path… nightmare for cleaning after
You could do with a labourer to help you take the wall down, do the mixes and line up new materials, but I guess its hard find a decent one these days ? A battery breaker would be really helpful to in taking the old wall apart too. Did you tie the new wall into the existing pillar on the boundary ?
Steve you really know how to build a wall. It looks fantastic. If only you were local to me. Might I ask if walls need a damp proof course to stop moisture rising? Also would the old wall been better with a steel rod in the pillar to give it strength? Sorry I’m no builder.
Bloody he'll steve what a fantastic job, don't no who build the other wall but not very strong unbelievable good quality workmanship well done by the way is Alex on holiday you have certainly pulled out all the stops to achieve the workmanship
Hi, I have a quick question and this could be because the way the footage has been taken but the coping stone on the pier seems to be sticking out a lot. Just for anyone's benefit, I am just a keen 'diyer' rather than any kind of trades so it could be a simple answer to this. I am aware that you have to allow for some space between the wall and the edge of the coping stone for the rain water to drip down. Thanks.
@@SteveAndAlexBuild Thanks, I had a front wall built a couple of years ago and tried to go as close as possible to the coping stone size. Faced exactly the same problem, I asked for the piers to be built slightly chunkier which still left me around 40mm to play with on all sides.
@@ryanr1237 my old block front wall I re painted when we moved in, was a 5” gap between the bottom block to a paver edger, the concrete had broken in places over time with standing water and was an eyesore. When we bought our house in the 1980s it has a single line brick wall at the front of the house bordering the street and it had collapsed. It was rebuilt with double brick thickness and it's still holding up to this day. We found out though that brick walls are expensive. It cost us £1000 back then. It was under 19ft wide (excluding the gap for the path and garden gate).
Yes a single skin wall is never ideal unless it’s very low . That wall you got would cost a fortune now as bricks alone cost roughly £1.20 each, back when yours was done they would have need about 30 p 😬🧱👍🏽
My neighbour employed a bunch of what turned out to be Cowboys in the middle of July to build 2 walls. After 5 months, 6 brickies and a load of hassle, it was all finished today. Thats after the initial company went bust. Yes now middle of December from middle July. Then some wonder why tradespeople get bad names. Hats off to this guy, hes done more in a day than Roy Rogers and Co did in 3 months.

I'd love to build a brick wall in front of my house, but it's almost 400 ft wide. I'm 70 years old and arthritic as well,so I'll just settle with a nice forest for a wall. Great looking job.

I would have put the engineering brick on the third course to act as a dpc and some diy tar mac.pavers could have been used from elsewhere on the drive to match 😉. I do like me quality. Got to be best in the street 👌
Why didn't you build it in English bond or Flemish bond thereby avoiding the weakness of the vertical straight-joint through the centre of the wall ? ( also much more attractive ) .
Excellent job well done and a very pleasing finish too. One thing, I've never seen a brickie use a tape measure so frequently, I'm sure you have your reasons but unusual.
