The touch is very nice and so sweet, because sewing is not a hobby/career exclusively for women and it is easy to overlook the men who
watch and enjoy her videos. It is very much appreciated.
A hundred years ago it would be appropriate to call her a "doll" (yes, complement intended.).
Sadly, this kind of respect and honor is almost completely gone in our modern society. This is one of the things I love about her.

    Five years, pah!
So I made one yesterday and it went well.
Today I tryed a second one and added flapps to not only use it as a pin cussion but as a sewing clip cussion too.
I addet a felt base because I realy fear to pin trough the padding.
Know I am thinking, she will NEVER read that comment after all this years. But I feel it is important to Show, that Evelyns Videos still have an impact and inspire.

Great tutorial. Thank you. I made one today, super quick. Local store holding a sale, so I bought a bangle. I used the black velvet cushion that it sat on in it's box as the pin cushion. Oh, and as I can get a bit over keen when sewing, I put a cut down to size old credit card at the base so that I won't pin myself. And I only drew blood once when sewing the cushion to the bangle. RESULT! 😁

      B Smith great idea!

    • @kgs2280
      @kgs2280 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

B Smith, i really like your idea of using an old credit card for the base. I kept envisioning having to make the stuffed part really tall to keep from getting poked by the needles going through the open spaces of the bracelet. I was thinking I’d have to measure the length of the pins and stuff higher than that length so that even pushing them in all the way wouldn’t prick me. And cutting out a piece of metal and forming it to fit the bracelet would be way too much work! (Yes, i do overthink things!). The credit card solves all of that. Thank you.

Yesss! I bought a bangle off a non domestic site we'll say, jt looked pretty in the pictures and didn't expect it to be real silver but at least expected it to be silver plated metal...it was not. It was horribly cheap looking silver painted plastic. I thought I wasted by dollar, but I did keep it on the off chance I could use it somehow. I got a life lesson and a pincushion bracelet for only a buck. Can't beat that.

I use wool to stuff my pincushions. I chopped off the top half of one of my husbands discarded Stockman wool socks and rolled it up. I then covered it in a cotton scrap, and added elastic to fit my wrist. The lanolin in the wool keeps the pins from rusting, and helps them slide into any fabric easier. You can use new wool roving as well if you prefer new, or can't find a wool sock.

Although I love your pin cushion, I prefer my snap bracelet. I remade mine in my favorite pink fabric and I added a decorative scalloped border that I (unintentionally) found to be a bonus spot for storing my fabric clips.
When the snap bracelet is open, it lays flat and upright for table use.

I can’t wait to do this as a Christmas gift for my nieces who are learning to sew this year. Their classes don’t take adults so I am learning in Vintage Sewing School right now. We are having fun learning together. Thank you so much!

I stuff my pin cushion with steel wool and it’s perfect because it’s cheap and it sharpens your pins too. I wrap them in felt for crafting.

I do the same, and it keeps my pins nice and sharp and even cleaned the rust off some that had rusted. I made my pin cushion on the cut off end of a sock. Sock shrunk in the wash but fits my wrist perfect!

I watched this video a year ago and wanted to make one of these awesome wrist pin cushions, but I couldn’t find a cuff bracelet that was just right. Now, here I am a year later, and I finally have made one of these for myself! I gave up trying to find a cuff locally because there apparently just aren’t any, so I did what I always do: looked on Amazon, and found the PERFECT one! It’s made of silver filigree which is excellent for poking your needle through to attach your fabric & stuffing. It was only $4 or $5, which I feel was totally worth it. Not only is it perfect for making this pin cushion, but it’s really pretty! Which is a definite bonus 👍🏻 I just finished making it and it looks wonderful; I’m so happy that it all came together . Thank you again for an awesome tutorial! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

It's incredible how this small object can be so important ! I made myself 3 of them some years ago, the first one is a pumkin, the two others hedgehogs and I still like them. But I must admit that they are not practical and I am always searching them everywhere. Yours are a very good idea and the tutorial is excellent, as usual.
    Thank-you Evelyn.

Really great idea, I may try and fix the stuffing in a stocking first to help hold the shape first, who knows it might work.

Such an elegant idea ❤️ Thank you! I will definitely make one for myself, but I will add a cardboard base between the cushion and the bangle to avoid stabbing my wrest by accident 😄

Great minds think alike. I had the same idea, too. I want to make mine from sterling silver, so do not want to scratch the cuff under the stuffing.

Very cool!! An essential yet personally tailored piece of sewing equipment!! It's so stylish that everyone wants one!!
As a"guy", I have to figure out ... 'cause I am a little tired be of digging in the flat 'pimento' jar for what pins I need. The wheels are turning and spinning LoL!!

I have some store bought cheap plastic wristlet pin cushions that always hurt my wrist because they gouge into the skin. I’m so excited to try this and looks like it will hold a large amount of pins. Thank you so much!

Thank you so much. What a great project. I have one I bought that I’ve been using for years which really doesn’t fit properly and continuously stab myself. I am making one like yours ASAP. I also like the black because you can see the pins more easily. You are very inspiring. Thank you again.

Nice tutorial very handy. Excited to see more thrift to vintage. Also just wondering/ hoping if you could do a vid on tips for different vintage styles depending on body shape? I have a large bust and adore thrills but I would love to learn what collars/ bodice shapes minimise that area. X
