25th Binawaluya Educational Program - Distal Radial Access in Complex PCI

Coronary angiography and angioplasty are usually performed via transfemoral access. Though this route provides an easier vascular access, it is associated with a small but potentially serious incidence of vascular complications at the puncture site that may result in significant groin haematoma, blood transfusion or require surgical repair.
Distal transradial access (dTRA) as a refinement of the conventional transradial access has advantages in terms of patient and operator comfort.
Distal radial access (DRA) in the anatomic snuffbox or on the dorsum of the hand has recently gained global popularity as an alternative access route for vascular procedures to reduce complication and risk of radial artery (RA) occlusion. A strong anatomic and physiological rationale yields potential for significantly reduced risk for RAO and positive impact on procedural outcome for better patient care.
