Great review Matt. One question, can you turn the flow down in any of the FX range? Just wondering if you go one size bigger than you currently need, you would future proof for a later project?
Really like the performance of the fx range, I've ran 2 fluval fx4 for 4 years with no drop in performance or breakages. That being said, the seals on all the valves will spray water when closing or opening now as well as the water change connection which is the best feature. Really do not like the larger hoses and inlet/outlets. Running the fluval spay bars on mine which are better but still very intrusive and bulky. Don't think I'd buy another unless the slim/streamline all the outlets, hoses and connectors.
They are great for flow, I think the bulky hoses are really necessary for the additional flow that these kick out. I think it's the trade off between sleek and small hosing or chunky hosing that lets a lot of flow through.
my only complaint with fluval filters is that ribbed hosing, you can't use your own lily pipes with it, I just wish they would've used a standard sized regular hosing with it so you didn't have to buy extra hosing after the fact to use other piping instead of the pain in the arse u bend

Hi Matt, love your content! Just wondering what you did with your Oase filter? Is it still connected to this tank? If not, will changing to the FX2 cause a crash in your cycle or not?
The Oase is in the other cupboard, certainly if you did swap from one to the other it would cause issues. Best way is to use your old media in the new filter or keep them running together for a bit! ❤️❤️❤️

I'm in the middle of buying all the equipment at the middle but I wanted to as you,is the FX6 to powerful for the New Siena? Thx bro! Peace✌️🏴🐙
Thank you, it depends what fish you're planning to keep it maybe a little powerful if you are going for a planted community but not too small for a cichlid tank.
Great video and thanks. What I can see is it has too much of a small canister (only a small quantity of biological filtration material can fit), for it's flow rate of 1800L/H. On the other hand, the FX4 has a bigger canister but the flow rate is way to high (2650L/H) for my 250L Discus tank. (Although Discus are messy eaters, frozen foods including beef heart and so on, they do not like tornado like water flow). So unfortunately, although I like Fluval as a brand, they both are not suitable for me. I currently run an EHEIM professionel 4+ 600, that has a roomy canister for biological filter material, and not too much flow at 1250L/H. TBH I wouldn't have minded a bit more flow.
Hi Matt Would this be a overkill for a 180 litre aquarium? I Bought a Juwel vision with internal filter removed was looking at 307 407 then saw this I read about having a filter to turn 10x the tank volume per hour what would you recommend?
That for the response I was watching you and md the the river tank with the hillstreams, shiners, and dainos must that's a pretty cool idea as well thanks for what you do💯👍✌️
I couldn't quite fit the FX4 under my cabinet so was chuffed when I heard there was an FX2, then when I saw the price comparison I couldn't bring myself to buy it as like you say, the FX4 is only a few quid more. aquacadabra on ebay keep changing the price from £225 to £199 and now it's back at £225 so I might grab it if that price drops again

Hi Matt, I am seriously considering one of these, only concern is the intake if I have any fry. Have you any experience how to prevent fry getting sucked through the intake on the fx fitters.
It's a good point the strainer is very large. You could remedy it very easily by wrapping the strainer in netting, or even sandwiching the strainer between two pieces of foam and popping an elastic band or zip tie round it. I wouldn't run it all the time but would be easy to slip on and off when necessary.
@@FishShopMatt thanks for the response, I thought about the net option, I didn't know if the strainer opens up to add sponge inside or if a smaller strainer was available. I will have a Google.
@@lancsfishkeeper1573 unfortunately the strainer doesn't open and I don't believe Fluval make a smaller strainer. But I just had a quick Google and there are a few 3d printed options with smaller holes online.
@@FishShopMatt thanks Matt. I will take a look. I'm current running 2 canisters and this one has caught my interest as it may fit in the cupboard and I can run the one filter. P.s. Keep up the good work, the videos are fun and informative to watch.
Absolutely, like I said I believe that once Fluval get the next shipment of fx4/6 come into the country the prices will rise in line with this new model. That could be next week or possibly several months away.
@@FishShopMatt Indeed would expect at least a £50 difference to make it market viable but its knocking on the doors of Oase and Aqua one so it really needed to be cheaper
@@CricketsMa no worries, if it were me I would look at the Fluval 107 or the Oase filtosmart 100. You could possibly go to a 200 filter but it maybe a bit powerful depending on which species you're keeping.

Still the one to beat overall
@@stephenlaw1782 absolutely!!!
Do you know if the hose diameter has also decreased? Hoping it's 16/22mm instead of 19/25mm.
Hey Courtney unfortunately not, it's still the larger of the two sizes. ❤️
@@FishShopMatt damn! Thanks for letting me know :)
Looking at the price i would just get an FX4 on that note its a proven system
Absolutely, like I said I believe that once Fluval get the next shipment of fx4/6 come into the country the prices will rise in line with this new model. That could be next week or possibly several months away.
@@FishShopMatt Indeed would expect at least a £50 difference to make it market viable but its knocking on the doors of Oase and Aqua one so it really needed to be cheaper
Looks epic but it can't hold much media :(
I think fluval have a brilliant filter but they can do a bit better with the media they supply.
Yeah they could supply more, but knowing my customers they would want to strip it out and change it anyway. 🤣🤣🤣
@@FishShopMatt 🤣
By jove old chap your shop will soon be a mecca for fish keeping guys n galls,
$479 Australian dollars. Possibly a little out of my price range 😢
AMD...= And (not “and MD” - though his opinion is ofcourse also welcome...afraid he will just say buy some floodlights 🤣)
So, could the flow be tamped down enough to use on a 10 gal? Please don’t laugh.
Probably not enough to make it useable unfortunately. ❤️❤️❤️
@@FishShopMatt Bummer. Thanks for the response! Wasn’t expecting one. 💔
@@CricketsMa no worries, if it were me I would look at the Fluval 107 or the Oase filtosmart 100. You could possibly go to a 200 filter but it maybe a bit powerful depending on which species you're keeping.
I just had myself a few minutes of binge watching Fish Shop Matt and the whole time I was unaware that the option was there ! I am not the best if technical matter is the way but the only thing that matters is a lazier than usual TH-cam sessions and I think it is a great idea to ask if you ever tried the EHEIM pre filter and see if you have any thoughts on the effectiveness?......Interesting to see how some people have a real problem with the pre-filter and I will look forward to the voice of reason. The End 🙉🍄
Do you sleep in a bunny suit?!?!?
those locking nuts on FX series are horrible and break easily.
Hey Matt, looking to ask you a few things, do you respond on insta through messages? Thank you! Love the channel
I'll be honest my inbox gets crammed everyday on insta and there is just no way of me keeping up unfortunately.
@@FishShopMatt yea I can imagine, just had a couple of questions but no worries at all :)
