Born 1945 as part of mum and dads celebration of the ending of WWII, looking back I had a tough working life mostly in construction that took me around around the world. Keeping up with the Jones's was all the go, but the new cars were driven by company salesmen and when they lost their jobs they lost their cars. House prices went nuts in the 70s so instead of up grading I went down in price and used what I'd made on my first house to buy the second one cash apart from the tiny mortgage to keep the income tax down.
I’m with you, was saying same to my brother… we had best of healthcare, work, education, earnings, housing etc etc… we’ve been the most fortunate generation… my thoughts anyway
Well done and thank goodness you have now got the all clear, I have known many over the years that have been in lockdown for years. Very restrictive on a business to survive let alone grow and expand. Do enjoy a biscuit. 😁
Have to say that I think growing up in the same time period as you I had the bonus of doing it without Internet and mobile phones, so if I wanted to see some farm action I had to get on my bike and go and find it. However as I earn my living supporting a team that use the Internet as the means of delivery then I can't complain. Hope you had a good birthday.
57 model year here. We saw the moon landings and the best world dominating music. Development of almost every thing in giant leaps.
Only Wars, time travel and health issues left to conquer others are mainly improvements right or wrong by mistake 😊
Hello Ian. I was born in 1941 and left school in 1956. Straight into a job on a farm and I reckon from then through to the 1990s, was a great time to be around. When quality of work was as important as the speed at which it was done. Yes. We've lived through the best years.
You're right MR. P the good old days were the best old days a lot less stress. It's great you are TB free now you can get back to normal farming!

I think you said your birthday is 22July. Mine was 24th July so happy birthday. I am about twenty years in advance of you though. What your dad was saying about living through the fifties etc is very true in my opinion.
Evening Ian.. to stop your service boxes being knocked around.. when you clamp them on. I put a tex screw or 2 through the clamp and into the round bar on the top of the trough.. stops all movement.. and just screws out again if needed..👍🏻👍🏻

Remember Ian it's only a number, I was told 60 is the new 40! not sure where somebody got that now I'm long past 60.
I think to many people born post 1970 feel entitled.We never did (born 1949) if you wanted something you worked for it,car or house do it up and work your way up.When I bought my first house interest rates had come down from 15% to 10%.
That disinfectant certainly works,the little jobs that nobody sees but keep the farm going.
I was born in 45 and grew up learning a good work ethic. The same if we wanted it we worked for it and I’d never heard of a bucket list until I was much older. Still don’t have a bucket list getting up every morning is good enough for me

I've done that in the past and then said to myself did I really achieve all that in my life. How did I find the time and work as well . That still keeps being added too as I refuse to retire and hang up my boots. I'm 68 have cancer of the throat and lungs and heart disease. I'm going out in a bang whether life likes it or not and achieve more before I do.

Interesting vblog. I think the timeline is between 1950 too 1990 we best year. Everything before the Internet. It proved 5:16 on Friday that we rely on the Internet too much after seeing the Friday meltdown 😢

Re your "Best times" comment. As we age we have greater perspective and experience. Life is about decisions & crossroads. Many times we have to make major decisions and "What ifs" arise retrospectively. "If only", "I should have..." I can't change what I did and the decisions I made at any time were the best on the day. I can't change that. Live your Life (Be Free 😹😹)

One is mains water, the other is a rainwater feed from the big tanks up at the cattle shed 👍🏼🙂

I'm a digit off 80, but I don't agree with your Dad. The '50s wasn't the best time to grown up, though there have been much worse. I reckon the '70s were the probably best days to be a kid (not that I was). I certainly don't envy those who're young now. You know that stuff you scrape up and pile in a heap? We've left the rising generation up to their oxters in it.

As you have been blaming badgers how do you plan to keep the cattle away from them. Can you fence off the sett.
Fencing off a badger sett would probably be illegal, especially as I would have to do it on someone else's land. The farm is ring fenced with stock wire, they just force or dig their way under it.
I have a friend here in Wales that's been under restrictions for 10 years , every test under severe readings , took all the Animal Health advice , entire perimeter of the farm fenced either fencing , 3 feet buried under the ground , and they still get in !👎👎👎👎

Mr P is there something you could put on the ground for animals don’t get sick or disease 🦠 I don’t think you want the same Problems you had in the spring put inside the barn to before they come in the barn. I don’t think you want the same problems you I know you want to make a profit with your cows and I know you have lost a lot specially sick cows to I remember you said something about rainy season get sick I hope there is something out there you could use specially in the field where they hang out all the time and in the barn I hope so cause I don’t wanna see sick disease just put something I was thinking about maybe you could try. I don’t know what they are, if there is, I know like for dogs text likes to suck dogs blood when I start putting the stuff on the ground. My dogs stopped getting sick and I know biscuit is getting old. I love that dog and I Plan on looking for some puppies just like the movie star you stay safe take care of your animals and I know they are miss talking to you. I know the cows have complaint about something take care of yourself.
