I didn't hate it. But I went in expecting a mindless popcorn flick and that's exactly what I got so I wasn't disappointed. I honestly didn't know why critics/audiences were so hard on it, were they expecting 2001: A Space Odyssey? It's a sci-fi/action/video game movie and I've seen much dumber movies in all three genres that get more love than Doom.

Prince of Datkness creeped me out for some reason. Most of the movie was so so, but the end, when it is revealed that it is the chick under the hood left too many questions unanswered.
The only real problem the remake had was how the remakes male lead was a complete charisma vacuum compared to Steve McQueen, but since the film had literally *EVERYTHING* *ELSE* going for it in terms of special effects and casting, I really don't understand why it hasn't received the major cult status of other overlooked 80's horror films.

Horror is simply an underrated genre.

Clive Barker's Nightbreed is a great horror movie I never see talked about. Hellraiser generally has more of an audience, but Nightbreed had a great story of the outcasts who just want peace versus the "normal" people who are the real monsters, a creepy villain, and likable characters.
Speaking of underrated horror films, given all the other John Carpenter films James has talked about over the years I’m really surprised in the 10 years he’s been doing Monster Madness he’s never talked about ‘John Carpenter’s The Fog’. It has a great cast, has a really creepy atmosphere & soundtrack, & is probably one of the more fondly remembered films in Carpenter’s body of work. Maybe in the future he’ll touch upon it, I’d love to hear his thoughts on The Fog.

Prince of Darkness is definitely an underrated Carpenter film. The tachyon transmissions from the future to the dreams of the characters in the movie are great. This movie was part of Carpenter's Apocalypse Trilogy... along with The Thing and In the Mouth of Madness. Love them all.
I don't think you can classify it as horror but Night of the Hunter is an awesome film. Robert Mitchum is awesome as the evil, money grubbing, woman hating, evangelist, criminal, murderous, child hunting preacher. I think it's his best film, even better than the original Cape Fear. Check it out
I love the Mario Bros movie and I love the fact that it is a Mario movie. The way you have to go into it is with a mindset that the events of the movie are the adventures of the REAL "Super" Mario Brothers and the games are suppose to be "kid-friendly-video-gamified" adaptions of those events. Like the Mario bros decided to go on TV to talk about everything that happened, became super-stars and then a young Miyamoto really liked the story and decided to make a video game series based on it.

The Descent is honestly one of the most terrifying movies I've ever seen. I'm claustrophobic as fuck, and the scenes of them cave diving down, their bodies just squeezing and scraping against the tight spaces...it just kills me. I have to get up and walk around during those scenes. Then the monsters come...fuck. excellent movie.
1989's Phantom of the Opera with Robert Englund is much better than I think people give it credit for. Or at least that's what I thought when I watched it a couple years ago.
I think the fact that the film was left in the shadows is due to the fact that during that time, Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical became extremely popular and nobody wanted to see the original monster.
The thing about the Phantasm series, is the plot is flipped on it's side by the last film making it not what you originally think it's about. But I'd agree that Phantasm II was the best film of the series.
I dunno, Jacob's Ladder is among my favorite films of all time but "underrated"? It's constantly popping up on greatest horror film lists and so on, it didn't get the attention it deserved at the time, but it's really become a massive classic...

THE KEEP (1983)!!; directed by Michael Mann and have an all-star cast (Scott Glenn, Jürgen Prochnow, Ian McKellen and Gabriel Byrne), but was butchered during it's post-production, still a very entertaining film.
I've been trying to get hold of The Keep for years. The problem I'm having is I want it on VHS. Not easy to find unless I'm willing to spend a small fortune.
The tunnel , grave encounters and room 1408 are underrated .All the best horror movies of the 80/90 are underrated , prince of darkness is also a megadeth songs . Night of the Demons got 2 scream factory releases, Trick or Treat just got one, Cabin in the Woods made millions, Tucker and Dale is very popular, Evil Dead rebbot was very hyped.
The Exorcist 3 is a very underrated movie. Tone and atmosphere wise one of the creepiest movies ever. I actually think it’s in a lot of ways creepier than the original. The way it connects to the original is dope and Brad Dourif has one Of the best performances ever put to screen no joke.

Ranevous (1999). Does anybody have seen this movie? This is one of my favorite movies. I saw this very young and in some strange way it always brings nostalgia and happiness to me. So underrated. Great cast, great plot, great filming location and beautiful music. Movie is about cannibalism and Wendigo myth.
That music kept scaring me whenever it started. I'm watching with headphones, and there's so much silence, then that creepy music starts, and I think it's coming from somewhere in my room.
Thank you Justin finally someone else who likes the Doom movie, too many people want game movies to be 100% accurate to the games but don't realize a lot of games simply wouldn't work as movies. As far as underrated horror films go I think John Carpenters Vampires is underrated, its not fantastic by any means but it has a nice flip of the usual Vampire cliche, Humans are usually the prey but in this the Humans are the hunters.

Movie I feel is so underrated is Peter Benchley's 1998 movie "Creature" It was actually made to be as a two episode sci-fi show, but as you watch it (over 4 hours in total) the movie time seems to fly by as you get invested in the mystery in a genetically modified shark who is the ultimate killing machine, whether it'd be land or water.
The Faculty is a very underrated Horror movie that i liked because of the Body Snatchers meets the Breakfast Club meets the Thing kind of movie which makes it enjoyable!!

The Vault staring James Franco is highly underrated, but the twist is really great and the movie overall is, in my opinion a master piece

Yeah I was actually surprised how much I liked that movie.
Completely underrated and feels more like The Thing, in terms of presentation. Carpenter is the master of independent horror cinema; a close second to Romero.
The end of Prince of darkness legit gives me chills just thinking about it
"The Haunting" from 1963. Though it's status as "underrated" is literally an ongoing debate.
Not really sure about these films being under-rated, but Coraline and Monster House are heavily over-looked gems to me.
Coraline is a good call. I never see it on any lists but its a Creepy Masterpiece.

Right on with prince of darkness...the music is great and this has the same feel as"the thing"...closest movie vibes to " the thing" I've seen since I was a kid

Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust - A Dhampir bounty hunter and another competition races to retrieve a wealthy young woman from an vampire in this stylish gothic anime.
Blood The Last Vampire (anime) - With the help of a mysterious government organization a katana-wielding Girl hunts bloodthirsty demons called Chiropterans on an air base in 1966.
Coraline - a 3D stop-motion film about a recently moved girl enters an parallel dimension where everything, including her home, parents & neighbors is perfect...or is it?
Tarantula - A science experiment accidentally made a spider grow big and goes on a rampage. Fun Fact Clint Eastwood appears in an uncredited role.
Dead & Buried (1981). a fun, little known, late Saturday night movie.
THE KEEP (1983)!!; directed by Michael Mann and have an all-star cast (Scott Glenn, Jürgen Prochnow, Ian McKellen and Gabriel Byrne), but was butchered during it's post-production, still a very entertaining film.

The tunnel , grave encounters and room 1408 are underrated .All the best horror movies of the 80/90 are underrated , prince of darkness is also a megadeth songs . The Wicker Man from 1973, I never see anyone talking about it, even if I consider it more of a suspense
British critics tend to rate it as one the best horrors of all time. Mark Gattis in his History of Horror series placed it as the figurehead of what he called 'folk horror' (Scarfolk is a great modern example of it)

Night of the Demons got 2 scream factory releases, Trick or Treat just got one, Cabin in the Woods made millions, Tucker and Dale is very popular, Evil Dead rebbot was very hyped.

The Exorcist 3 is a very underrated movie. Tone and atmosphere wise one of the creepiest movies ever. I actually think it’s in a lot of ways creepier than the original. The way it connects to the original is dope and Brad Dourif has one

It wasn't awful,IMO. However,I'm apparently VERY forgiving of "bad" things & tend to find worth in something much easier than most...

The Haunting for me is a very underrated horror flick even with a PG-13 rating it really scared me
That shot of the lady swallowing the girl whole is one of the creepiest things I've ever seen in my life. That was very disturbing.
Guy 1 wins. James went classic which is cool. I really expected more interesting picks from the crew though. Doom? I mean cmon... at least try! Surely there is some other guy who actually watches movies you could have on.
One of my favorite underrated horror movies has to be The Gate.
Ranevous (1999). Does anybody have seen this movie? This is one of my favorite movies. I saw this very young and in some strange way it always brings nostalgia and happiness to me. So underrated. Great cast, great plot, great filming location and beautiful music. Movie is about cannibalism and Wendigo myth.
Hatchet is probably the most underrated Horror movie in the past 15-20 years.
Dee sniders stangeland is one I would consider underrated.

That music kept scaring me whenever it started. I'm watching with headphones, and there's so much silence, then that creepy music starts, and I think it's coming from somewhere in my room.
Thank you Justin finally someone else who likes the Doom movie, too many people want game movies to be 100% accurate to the games but don't realize a lot of games simply wouldn't work as movies. As far as underrated horror films go I think John Carpenters Vampires is underrated, its not fantastic by any means but it has a nice flip of the usual Vampire cliche, Humans are usually the prey but in this the Humans are the hunters.

Movie I feel is so underrated is Peter Benchley's 1998 movie "Creature"
It was actually made to be as a two episode sci-fi show, but as you watch it (over 4 hours in total) the movie time seems to fly by as you get invested in the mystery in a genetically modified shark who is the ultimate killing machine, whether it'd be land or water.
For an original sci-fi shark movie that's actually good with good practical effects and costumes, I couldn't recommend this movie enough.
The guy with the 80s mustache from Tony's pick was one of the Simon brothers from the hit 80s show "Simon and Simon ".
Love Prince of Darkness and It's the best Carpenter score IMO
The Faculty is a very underrated Horror movie that i liked because of the Body Snatchers meets the Breakfast Club meets the Thing kind of movie which makes it enjoyable!!
The liquid pouring down with no sound and only the background music playing was actually legit creepy.
