The couple at the beginning of the movie who talk about getting the robots for their restaurant are from EATING RAOUL. It's a great movie by the same director as DEATH RACE 2000, and you guys NEED to watch it. Paul Bartel made it with film left over from shooting movies with Corman. So good, and it's on the Criterion Collection.
Does anyone else think that this show was inspired by “Half in the Bag” and “Best of the Worst” from Redlettermedia? I can’t help but think that that copy of “Surviving Edged Weapons” in front of the counter is in some way a nod to them
A few years ago I rented Chopping Mall when I was trying to watch all the campy 80s horror movies that aren't the most popular ones. I watched it three times and eventually bought it. I love it.
Looking at the set makes me miss going to the video rental stores as a kid, especially during Halloween. It was great to just browse through all the crazy covers of the movies and video games and they way I would learn if they were worth buying... Great memories ❤️
As a Japanese, it's nice to see these Tokusatsu videos sitting in front of James, the blue one is "Godzilla Raids Again", the red one says "Complete edition of unreleased Tokusatsu films", and standing one is "Terror of Mechagodzilla". I've never into Godzilla movies, but Tokusatsu shows were big part of my childhood. Instant nostalgy. Anyway, good video as always! Thanks guys!
I'm having a genuine moment looking at all the VHS tapes in the back. Wild Things and Hannibal were always on the shelves at my local video store back when I was a kid.
One thing I liked with this movie was they actually had them fight the robots. They didn't just run away and say what are we gonna do til they all died. They actually tried to stop them and even the plans that failed weren't terrible plans. The could be a fun survival horror game.
Also filmed at the Sherman Oaks Galleria: Back to the Future Part II,Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Phantom of the Mall: Eric's Revenge,Walk Like a Man (1987),Innerspace.
One of the people cracking jokes in the front is Mary Woronov. She's a B horror movie Legend IMO. TerrorVision, Rock & Roll High, Death Race 2000, Night of the Comet, and even has a small cameo role in The Devil's Rejects. She deserves more love for her extensive body of work.
The reason she was such a good aim in choppy Mall he's because she just came from the set of night of the comet where her dad was military or all in the police something like that because if you remember she said in night of the comet that daddy taught her how to shoot.
That mall is Sherman Oaks Galleria. A guy that I used to work with lived close to it and had been there many times before he moved to Florida. We were talking about old horror movies and Chopping Mall came up, that’s when he told me where it was filmed. I heard there was plans to remake Chopping Mall some time ago, but so far I haven’t been able to find anything else out on it.
I haven't seen this in 25+ years, but still remember the boob scene in this movie. I even remember what she said (upon exposing herself): "Hurry back". They should use boob-subliminals to improve education in school. I saw it when I was 12 and that part of the tape was suspiciously worn out. So, whoever watched it (once I was done with it) experienced a jumpy picture in that scene. I guess I wrecked it for the next guy.
This is still one of my all time favorite 80’s horror movies, I still bust out my copy once or twice a year and watch it. We had some of the best horror films in the 80’s.
The Sherman Oaks Galleria was a magical place - spent much of my childhood there. It was shut down due to structural damages caused by the '94 Northridge earthquake, and was eventually torn down and a new "open air" mall was built in its place.
This is on Amazon Prime too, I love that its actually easily viewable, a lot of the class Cinemassacre recommendations are hard to find or where in the past
They should remake it, with robots in the mall actually chopping people , and make the mall super popular and crowded but up to date. My mall in my home town is still really popular. There is even a whole big arcade recently built and open. Its awesome and totally takes me back to the 90s even today. Its crowded all the time I love it.
Man, seeing that VHS copy on the desk for The Hallowe'en Tree brings back find memories of my Dad renting it for me from the local video store when I was a kid.
Not sure if this has been mentioned, but... _Fast Times, Night of the Comet,_ and _Chopping Mall_ all have Kelli Maroney. I thought blondie with the gun looked familiar.
Have you'll seen intruder from 1989? Point is They should swap the names would make more sense lol Intruder is people literally being chopped up in a store... Chopping Mall is robots killing intruders
Aside from the "people don't go to malls anymore" comment (which I know is true, many malls have been shutting down in the past few years), I think a sequel would be great for Chopping Mall. I knew of this movie concept right before I started seeing slim mall security robots in one of the malls I visit. Actually creeped me out.
The Christmas lights across the counter really brings it together. Its like we have alot of antiquated shit in here we couldn't possibly make it look any worse, hold my beer, Christmas lights.
If there was a Chopping Mall done today, it would have to be done at a Wal-Mart or something. That's pretty much where boils and ghouls go these days to "kill" time. *cackles like cryptkeeper*

It's amazing that Roger Corman is still alive and active in the movie business.
Roger Corman is awesome. However, he had nothing to do with this movie. This movie was produced by his WIFE Julie Corman.
