Hi. I tried the new visoflex and compared to my existing 020 on the M10P at Leicastore Dubai. I found that on the M10P there is no reason to upgrade and if you have the 020 my recommendation is stay with what you have. If you intend to buy the M11 then on the new camera it is a major improvement and you get the full benefit of the higher resolution. Hope this helps. Regards Steve. Dubai.

regarding your issues with focus peaking and zoom lag, there is a workaround: set the focus aid on automatic, and using your exposure compensation dial set the zoom to fit the entire screen. the setting will remain for each shot, the camera will not zoom anymore & it will only activate the focus peaking.

Wow, really well done review. You brought out balanced, valid points for both pros and cons. You addressed EVERY question I had regarding using the VF2 with my M10-R. Thank you!!
    Beautiful images too 👌🏽

***update*** so after spending a bit more time with the visoflex I have realised that there is a way to use the peaking without the zoom. You have to set the focus aid to manual mode in the capture assistants setting, then program the front button on the camera to turn it on and off and using the programmable dial on the back of the camera you can change the zoom distance or have no zoom at all. It’s a bit clunky as I use that dial to adjust exposure compensation on the fly. So it just means that I have to constantly turn on and off the peaking. It’s not ideal but it works

Your claim that Leica M10 and M11 users won’t get a geotagging function from an affixed *Visoflex 2* is contradicted by TH-cam channel *Red Dot Forum* . They report that the *Visoflex 2* incorporates a GPS device that enables geotagging on the host camera without needing to connect a smartphone [via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth]. The previous Visoflex model lacks this built-in GPS device.

Thanks for your review & comment. I shied away from M fearing I won’t be able to master rangefinder with no back-up then sell it. Chanced upon visoflex recently and it gives me back my courage to reconsider an M. To me it’s like a training wheel on a bike.

What is fantastic with the M11 and the Visoflex 2 is the choice to use the viewfinder if you want or the Visoflex 2 in some situation. We dont use an EVF for street photography that is for sure.

Great analysis and review. Sold mine 2 weeks after I purchased it, when I bought my M11 last year.

On my M11 the Visoflex 2 is so great and high resolution. No lag.

With the M11 the Visoflex provide the full frame resolution.

Really great review! Your comments were spot on with my concerns, specifically delay. I was thinking that a Visoflex could help my M10R feel more like a DSLR (when the occasion calls for it) but I don't think I could deal with the delay.

Thank you for your comment. I would be lying if I said that I wasn’t disappointed myself, but it is what it is. I am going to keep on using it and see if my opinions change over time

Not for nothing but, who buys an M to shoot like they have aDSLR. It’s an oxymoron! With that said, I lust for an M system but for all practical purposes, I only see out of my left eye while wearing glasses. Maybe I’ll wander into a Leica store sometime soon to see if… pretty good vid.

I don’t think you would be that into it to be honest, however if you are ever in Tokyo you can borrow it for a day or two if you like

Hello! Great photos!! This is exactly how the EVF works on a M240 as well (which I have). I use my EVF for composing with my 21mm. Would rather have byed a optical 21mm viewfinder…but they were much more expensive.

i also noticed crappy bugs when switching from Camera Display to Visoflex2. sometimes you get pretty crappy , crazy colored view in Visoflex.
also switch to visoflex fails mostly every time when your eye is already looking into visoflex and then turn camera on..
    (with M10-R bp)
Edit: I hope Leica will fix this with better firmware shortly.
I am a bit angry with Leica. I bought the Visoflex2 like you when it came out to at least get one before it runs out of stock. If they would have told me it will only support small resolution on M10-R i would not have bought it. Instead they told me its 100% compatible.
only when reading new firmware release notes i noticed that native resolution is NOT working at all and Leica tricked me...

Very helpful review nicely and concisely presented. I have an M10R and use occasionally with type 020 Visoflex. The problem with that is that the Visoflex obscures the shutter speed dial - really annoying when shooting with manual exposure as I normally do. You didn’t mention that the new type 3 Visoflex does not obscure the dial, s9 that is an improvement…. But I think you have put me off buying the new one because of the resolution difference on an M10, which is presumably worse than when using type 020?? Regards, Peter in Derby UK

The Visoflex 2 is designed for the M11 series and future M12. You cant appreciate his real value using a M10 that is for sure.

If you can get past how ugly it is perched on top otherwise world's most gorgeous camera, the VisoFlex 2 is a worthy upgrade to the Typ 020 -- technically & functionally superior in almost every way. You're one of the first persons I've heard who actually likes how it looks. Anyway, I've owned both, but unlike the Typ 020 which I kept permanently attached, I'll only use the VisoFlex 2 when critical focus needed. Leciausa had inventory for a few days last week so check there occasionally if in need of one.

With a digital camera it doesn't cost you any more to take 10 shots than it does to take one shot. Looking through your Visoflex, once your subject is in sharp focus take a bunch of shots, not just one. Don't fret over "the blackout." In my experience you'll get at least - at least - one great shot. Without an electronic shutter you're never going to get the instaneity you wish for.

    • @Visions_in_Toyko
      @Visions_in_Toyko  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

That’s a valid point for sure. Personally I don’t like taking loads of shots usually, I guess I’m just used to using the rangefinder and taking my shot when the subject is roughly where I want them in the frame. I also don’t use the rear display when shooting due to the lag, it just feels too slow for how I shoot. I was hoping this wouldn’t carry across to the visoflex and it would work quicker, but it’s just basically re-routing the screen output with all its quirks to the viewfinder. I will still persist in learning how to use it and incorporate it into my shooting style and am sure will do a video revisiting it after a much longer period of use.
