    Great video (as always!) One more plus for the EVF: since it’s articulated, it allows you to take photos at angles the optical finder doesn’t allow. I use this especially for 21mm and 15mm landscape shots to get close to objects in the foreground.

    You're killing me buddy. I went out and bought an M240 after your encouragement. And I can use the three lenses for the M8.2 on it. You encouraged me on that, too. I was shopping for an f/2 50mm when I remembered the f/1.4 50mm SMC Pentax. With the Olympus VF2 I can focus now. I may have to stop watching you. Stop me before I shop again! LMAO
    I do enjoy your straightforward presentations based on your experience in the field. So thanks for your help. And I have now sated my Leica frenzy.

    Brilliant again Matt. Just got my first M camera (M10R) with the Voigtlander 21mm f3.5 and 50mm f2 APO. I knew that I would need a viewfinder for the 21mm and this video has helped me justify my purchase of a Visoflex 2 (great deal off eBay!). Also on the list is an F mount - M mount adapter as I have a 40 mm f2 Ultron SL II and a lovely Nikon 85mm f1.8 which I can re-use. Thanks again 👍

    I'm using the Leica VisoFlex EVF on a M10-P. I find it very useful to use during strong daylight as opposed to the rear LV viewfinder. It also helps with focusing my APO 75mm Cron and Macro-Elmar M90mm. Only downside is price and it uses the battery. Nice to have choices!

    The VF-2 was released in 2009, together with their second m4/3 body E-P2. You got two options as eye-level viewfinder (the rear display is a waist level viewfinder, so "viewfinder" can mean either one as well) and VF-1 was just a optical one meant for 17 mm f/2.8 lens that was the kit lens for E-P1 and E-P2.
    The E-P2 was released 3 months after the E-P1 because there was a bug in the camera that couldn't be fixed with the firmware update, so they put E-P2 out ASAP and only difference was that one bug was eliminated AND the AP2 (Accessory Port 2) was added behind the hot shoe.
    The AP2 was in use up to the PEN-F that was first model from Olympus where they eliminated the AP2.
    The only difference between Olympus and Leica versions is the brand and then the Leica has a straightly angled front, where Olympus has slight curve.
    And then is the price, Olympus was about $250 where Leica was $550.

    Great review Matt. Good tip on how using the EVF and non Leica lenses with a lens adapter helps you overcome the 0.7m minimum focusing distance of the Leica lenses on an M camera, allowing you to preserve the unique Leica M look of images while creating images that are a little different. I must now search for adapters to use my Nikon AIS lenses and Pentax K lenses on my M246 Mono and M10P..

    For me using the EVF on the M240 meters the light better in a variety of difficult lighting situations. It’s essentially same as the ‘advanced’ metering mode on the camera. It does lag when pressing the shutter so it’s difficult to do action shots to freeze the subject in mid-air exactly at the point I want. The EVF drains the battery more. But is much better compared to the M10 when using the Visoflex. Only thing is that you can’t move the focus patch like the M10 does. So I use the M240 mostly for center oriented compositions or when using wide angle lenses like 21 and 15mm.

    Hi Matt, Great video as always. I have a Leica M-E 240 and a collection of Leica lenses with different focal lengths. I like to use the Cokin P filter system (which I used to use very frequently before I switched from Nikon to Leica) but it concerns me that when I have the Cokin apparatus attached to the end of the Leica lens I won’t be able to use the viewfinder in the M-E 240 because the filter holder will be in the way and will obstruct my view. I expect by using the EVF I would be able to overcome this problem, given that the view through the EVF is effectively through the lens rather like it is with a DSLR. Would you agree?

    • @MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom
      @MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Neil, thanks! Yes agreed, filters can be less ideal on RF cameras. Yes the EVF gives you through the lens so that will work no problem.

      LLL diopter is great for 50mm and longer. See link below any recent video or on the blog. For 28mm you need to remove it to see framelines. Yes better than EVF for true RF experience and smaller setup/ battery lasts longer.

      I’ve always shot by eye, before the EVF, so I guessed the expose, shoot adjust. From memory with the EVF when you half press the shutter it displays the actual visual exposure and then you can adjust as needed.

      @@cherylatkins7600 Congrats on your M! I don't think what you say it true but i've not tried it. Why - the focus patch is in the RF not the EVF.
