    I'm from America, when i was in high school I was stalked by different men 3 times. It was very scary. This old man was hitting on me, saying I was a beautiful woman(I was 15) and he was old enough to be my grandpa. I got on my train to go home and he followed me, I ended up pretending I knew a woman near me and texted on my phone for her to pretend she knew me and she did. I got off my stop and just my luck police were at the station to make sure no one hopped the train.I told them and described the man (there was 2 officers) one stood to keep an eye out and the other escorted me to the bus stop. Most police wouldnt do that, i was very thankful, we need more people like that woman and those officers.

      How did you text a woman you didn't know if you wouldn't have had her number?

    • @orionhwll2594
      @orionhwll2594 5 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      @Tidder T She probably meant that she wrote on her own phone (like in her notes app or something) and then showed it to the woman so the creep wouldn't hear.

    • @meikozzz444
      @meikozzz444 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @Tidder T she may not wrote it on her comment but maybe that's what she's trying to say.

    • @meikozzz444
      @meikozzz444 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @Tidder T based on what i understood on ur comment, i guess it was her way of doing so. Because if she went inside the train first while the old man trying to follow her, she thought of a way of sitting beside another person, ex: She quickly saw a woman sitting with no one beside her, so she went up to that person to sit with so the old man wouldn't go up to her that easily, then silently trying to tell her that someone was following her and trying to do her a favour and play along. That's what i think of her way of doing it. (:

Smh ( I live in the states) each state has diff laws though I'm in Connecticut but still it's pretty much the same everywhere and so many women are killed every yr because of it.

      I have taken some self defence classes and it didn't really help me and my friend. Our self-defense teacher told us to just run away and never start a physical confrontation, because we are so weak and would not win. I took classes for 6 months and still were not able to free myself in the end when my self-defense teacher held me. It was quite frustrating....

    • @rowansaro2458
      @rowansaro2458 6 ปีที่แล้ว +36

      @@NoctLightCloud What kind of class did you take if you don't mind me asking? (Bjj, krav maga, kickboxing, etc.) Because while escaping should be a person's priority vs dropkicking their attacker, I feel your teacher should have tried to instill more confidence in his students.

    • @NoctLightCloud
      @NoctLightCloud 6 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      @@rowansaro2458 It was a course called "self-defense for women", and all of us participants were quite bad at it. I actually thought I'd be better. It was frustrating. The teacher was super nice, he was a Taekwondo teacher. In the end he told us to avoid touching or making the attacker agressive, we better run.

    I’ve watched about 4 stories about stalking in either Japan or South Korea, because they all popped on my feed at once when I watched one, y’all know how TH-cam is, but I’m just going to put out a few tips for those if you’ve had this similar experience:
    1) self-defense classes or any type of martial arts is one of your best ways to fight off these creeps; running away or just thinking they’ll stop is just naive, they want what they want, and as creepy as it sounds it’s true, so if you’ve got to open a can of whoop ass, do it
    2) calling someone was a good move, but I think what really throws them off is shouting in public or giving awareness to those around you (not in your rent scenario but out in a public area or even on the train)
    3) doing the unexpected is also a good bet, saw this one post where a guy suggested his girlfriend to do something crazy like sing a song outload or dance in a weird way, throws these creeps off guard. Crazy isn’t a bad thing in this case, these might be crappy ex but I think y’all get it
    4) in many countries the police aren’t as comforting and safe as people would assume, it’s true and sad that in Japan, police don’t give a shit about stalkers, but that doesn’t mean you can’t call them for comfort, they deserve to know more cases are happening
    5) in many countries foreigners are primary targets to assaults, stalking, or even molesting (which is sick but true) keep this in mind if you plan to foreign exchange, move, or visit a foreign country *and* with this in mind have a weapon of self-defense if you don’t *know* self-defense
    6) IF ITS DARK, don’t talk to anyone, DONT, this is what everyone does, if it’s night and you’re alone it’s no coincidence people are out there late at night, these assholes are on prowl, also don’t let anyone touch your phone OR you, also wear dark clothing nothing revealing, in other words dress like a man, this’ll lower your chances of being approached
    7) NEVER let them follow you home, they’ll just keep coming back, if you’re outside, first house you see with lights, you knock on that door and explain the situation, they’ll let you in because why wouldn’t they, then call the police
    That’s all I’ve got. So glad you’re safe Mikan because sweet lord this crap is nuts 💕, also send my prayers to anyone out there that’s had this similar experience because this shit happens everyday.

    I am sorry to hear about what you have experienced. But since you mentioned about handshaking, I think in Japan's history handshaking is related to some sexual acts. Japan is a very conservative country and before handshakes are prohibited but due to development of their lifestyle handshakes became acceptable especially in meeting "idols". Maybe that guy thought u have accepted him taking advantage on you thru that handshake u've given him. Japan is a non verbal country. Japanese have the tendency to give meanings in every actions you take.
    I hope this info will help everyone. Be safe girls.

    Idk what I would of done in that situation. I think you handled that really well and its unfortunate that the police there (and in other countries) don't take stalking seriously. I wish they would because you never know what that person is capable of. Im just glad you are okay now!

      Amai_Maple It did seem like the police took her serieusly.

      The police only enforces the laws so they had no other choice then to let him go.

    You did the right thing, I’m so glad you had a boyfriend you could rely on! It must have been so scary. I had a similar experience in Japan, unfortunately it seems to be quite a common occurrence for foreign women (likely Japanese women as well but I think we are seen as more vulnerable as we are in a foreign country). I was walking home from the train station and a man on a bike started trying to talk to me. I told him I was going to the convenience store so he didn’t think it was my house but he insisted on me going there with him to buy alcohol. He ended up grabbing my arm and then touching me inappropriately and as my house was right there I broke away and ran inside. I was on the third floor and thankfully was planning to leave Japan in a few days so I wasn’t worried about him stalking me but it was such a sad reminder that even though I had a great time in Japan apart from that, no country is safe especially as a women.

    So glad you're okay now!! I've also experienced Japan's lax attitude about stalkers and general creeps >_< no where near as bad as you had however when I was 16 I went to Japan for a couple of weeks and had some guy in Japan in his 40s started hitting on me and continued even when I said I explained that I was 16. (Whenever I said no he kept demanding why) He then followed me for a bit but luckily since it was in a busy station I managed to loose him and hide in the bathroom. I told the teachers at my language school later as I was really freaked and they just said 'oh probably just some lonely salary man poor guy' which at 16 was not what I wanted to hear 😵😂

    I was looking for stories like this since my friend and I were followed in Don Quijote when we visited Japan for the first time. My friend didn't notice but I definitely did after the guy passed by us for maybe the 10th time, and I didn't start getting scared until he followed us up the escalator to the next floor after being nearby us for about 40 minutes. He sort of pretended to shop while staring at us from time to time from the end of the aisles. We lost him when we went back downstairs, but it's strange that this kind of thing happens because I thought Japan was super safe, being a very low-crime place. Nothing happened and he may have just been intrigued by us as foreigners, but it's still scary being followed!

    I was stalked in college (in the late 80's), I worked at the library and he sit and watch me and would write down everything I did/wore that day and also what my then boyfriend (now husband) and I would do. He handed me the notes one day and it freaked me out (this was before cell phones), he then tried to follow my boyfriend and I home...we reported him to campus police the next day...
    Freaked me out because he seemed so normal at first, I even talked to him a few times. Really messed with my trust, I used to trust everyone. This happened when I was 19 am now 54 and will never forget it.
    Stalking is one of the scariest things to happen to someone ever, especially if the person seemed "so normal" at first. Your story even freaked me out!!

    6 years living in London - working at night, partying most of the weekends - I think I only had 2-3 cases when I felt uncomfortable because of a man starring or behaving weird. 2 weeks in Japan - just being a tourist accompanied by bf - 3 cases of being touched, talked to in weird way, taken pictures of in sneaky way + constantly being starred at by men.
    Ugh how do you girls deal with that? I am soooo impressed. I would be freaking out every day.

    A couple years ago my mom and my brother were at the metro (in America)
    There was this woman who was following them and she was mumbling something we couldn’t understand. She held my brothers hand and kept saying stuff like “beautiful child follow me your mom isn’t worth it” my mom tried to get away and she went to the streets where she thought there would be more people. But there weren’t . She should have gone back to the metro where there were police. She called my dad and when my dad came, the lady held my brothers hand and my dad closed the car door and she let go. Then the woman threw a bunch of glass and plastic bottles at the back of our car. ( my brother was three and my mom works a little far from our house)

    Don’t live in the first floor or the second floor. I used to live with in the first floor with my BF and my bras that I put to dry in veranda were stolen. In Japan, we usually dry clothes in our verandas. My veranda was covered with trees and nothing can be seen from the street unless someone wants to peep through the trees. But still it happened. Then, shortly we moved to another place.

    Whenever I’m walking by myself to a friends house which is like 10 minuets away I usually don’t come across many people. But when I see men in their 40s I walk fast because I’m scared of what could happen.
    There was this one time were I was walking and there were a lot of men across and on the same side of the street as me. I was like “Wtf why are there so many men.” I was the only 12 year old girl walking so I like walked super fast because I didn’t want them to talk to me lol.

    Tip: if someone is following you or trying to touch you, always cough or do something so other people look at you (for example when there are a lot of people around or when there are a lot of people in a shop with you) the person that is stalking you will maybe look at something else so he or she doesn’t get caught. So you have more chance to walk away faster (idk if this helped but yeah, and sorry for my bad English lmao, i heard this from someone else but I wanted to say it in the comments too!)

    Just an idea but if you’re in a big city with lots of hotels, and you’re obviously foreign, and a guy rubs you the wrong way, you could pretend you’re not in Japan much longer and say you’re heading back to a hotel. Then find the closest one and actually head there, explain the situation to them, and wait in the lobby for a while, possibly calling a taxi to get home after. If your situation happened to me I might do that.
    If the dude is in front of your place tell the taxi driver to head to a police station… idk. Anything to prevent a creep finding out your actual residence.
    Possibly more important is to introduce yourself to some other people living on your street, far enough away for your actual building to be out of sight. You could ring their doorbell and enter the neighbor’s place to throw the creep off. Having a support network is huge. The neighborhood should all look out for each other
