He ended up staying, opened a restaurant called the Amercian Bar & Grill, and invented the parmo during the 1950's. 4TheWkend in Middlesbrough do nice parmo's. They also do pizza, Mexican food, burgers, grills, wraps, curry, pasta. garlic and flat breads and desserts. I'd highly recommend.

I live in Manchester but am in North Yorkshire a lot. The parmos are decent enough but NOTHING compares to a Teeside parmo. Any kebab shop in Stockton on Tees is serving good parmo.
Well I've never had a Parmo, but this looks absolutely delicious. At first I thought FORTY ODD POUNDS?! but this is a mahoosive amount of food, and enough for three.. All the places on the North Sea coast have this unique quality of light, whether its Brid, Scarborough or oop North like Hartlepool. This effect even comes through on t'old smartphone screen, to make me miss this part of the country so much. I really MUST get up there soon. And this chicken Parmo will be on my list. The monkey hangers thing is supposedly from the Napoleonic wars when a French ship wrecked offshore and the only survivor was the captain's pet monkey that he dressed in French military uniform. The locals saw a short hairy person that spoke gibberish so assumed he was a French spy and hanged him. Almost certainly never happened but the town embraced the story

It’s only in the north east you can get parmo although they don’t do it in Newcastle or Sunderland. Been there on a night out and I went into a pizza shop there asked from a parmo and they said what’s that. Stockton, middlesbourgh, Hartlepool, Darlington are the on,y places you can get them. Whether they have spread further north or south is anyone’s guess.

Chicken parmo in Australia (referred to as parmigiana) has neapolitan sauce rather than bechamel sauce. Sometimes also has eggplant and ham. Delicious.
