2. It has the world's longest platform. The platform at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in Mumbai is 736 meters long, making it the longest platform in the world.
3. It has the world's highest railway bridge. The Chenab Rail Bridge in Jammu and Kashmir is the world's highest railway bridge, standing at 359 meters above the Chenab River.
4. It has two stations in the same location. In Ahmednagar, Srirampur and Belapur stations are located at the same spot but on opposite sides of the track.
5. It has its own mascot. Indian Railways has its own mascot, a white elephant named Bholu. Bholu was created in 2002 by the National Institute of Design to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Indian Railways.

I am working as a senior alp in indian railways. We only follow railway signals and speed restrictions. Indian Railways does not focus on loco cabin. There is no AC, toilet in the cabin. In summer season the temperature inside the locomotive goes around 50°. Despite of all these problems we focus on our duty & serve for the nation. Rip to all departed souls😢🙏

I live in North Bengal, more precisely in Siliguri. When I first visited Southern Bengal in 2012, I was so amazed by watching electric locos. Now at the age of 20 i realised how undeveloped the railway system was in North Bengal, by the year of 2016 the electrification process was started and now almost 90% of the electrification job is done. And the most awaited railway project is the Sivok - Rongpo Rail route, it will connect Sikkim and West Bengal.

Maine apne North Bengal ko undeveloped bola hai, wo bhi 2012 mei.. 2016 ke baad electrification ka kaam shuru hua tha, iske pehle kisi bhi government ka Nazar North Bengal ka railway development per nhi aya tha.. current government ne North Bengal ka railways mei bohot improvement Kiya hai... NJP station ka reconstruction shuru ho Gaya hai, Sivok - Rongpo Rail route ka construction peak level per hai..

So far, 1,610 km out of the total sanctioned length of 2,843 km of DFC has been completed. The Ministry of Railways has taken up construction of two Dedicated Freight Corridors (DFC).

As a kid, I have a special connection with Railways especially India!!
My maternal grandfather worked in Indian Railways and as a kid i used to travel in train every summer vacation to visit relatives from Gujarat to Rajasthan with my mom!!!!
My dad has had a travelling job his whole life and he never felt the need to travel by plane. He loves driving and travelling by trains especially in night. He feels that the night trains in Northern India and North-West India are really comfortable!!! Like just go to sleep in the night train, complete your sleep schedule and you can have a good day attending the destination the next morning. Complete the job and board the return train in evening and reach by morning.
Even as I’m writing this comment, I’m writing while travelling in train.
I lived in Ukraine and even after living there for 6 years, I still think Indian Railways has been the best and has improved significantly over the last 2 decades or so.
No country has achieved the rate of electrification this fast and the amount of electrification that has been done is quite commendable!!!!! I have to salute the Indian Railways for serving the public even after facing so many difficulties!!!
I am from ladakh and i think ladakh is the only place where there is no railway yet. I can understand that it is not easy to operate it here easily but when we have to travel we have two options roadways and airways. Roadways ia not so easy because it takes 3 4 days to reach delhi. And flights are quite expensive. So, I hope to have railway here.

When Agnipath scheme was introduced, there was huge protest against it. Indian railways also faced the brunt by having some of its trains being burnt by Protesting People!

I had a question, what if we didn't had railways but only road networks? How it india will work without railways? Yeah there would be many disadvantages of being absence of indian railway but also there are lot of advantages as well. In 199s railways was a liability of the indian government and still indian government is recovering from that liability.

I am a frequent solo traveler, and I always choose trains if there is service available over any other mode of travel. Indian railways are doing a remarkable job at providing affordable services for its huge population. We as a nation should understand it is very much essential to make railways profitable and not barely scrape through every year.
Although I agree not everything is perfect, much of it is to do with common people like us. It pains my heart to see people spitting paan/gutka even in the wash basins, not maintaining the hygiene of washrooms to even miscreants throwing stones on moving trains etc. We need to make railways attractive for more commuters and it is only possible when our mindset changes and realize railways is our property and we need to respect it as we respect our home. Buy tickets/platform tickets promptly. Jai Hind.
One more The most Important thing is.. We Should not pollute the environment by Throwing Plastic/waste from the Train Doors&Windows while travelling.Instead dispose the waste in platform Dustbin's (In a segregate Manner).

While travelling in Train we'll see plastics around everywhere nearby by Railway-tracks
and off-course everywhere...This is the situation right now caused by Passengers and as well as Railway coach cleaner's.
I'm not saying this for all Coach cleaners, But most of them do this!
When I was travelling in train, I saw a coach cleaner throwing/disposing away all the wastes collected from a Coach-dustbin to outside in a moving train.. I Scolded him for that, but he doesn't cared and does a same thing for next coaches..

Ye to sirf 50 - 100 km ki bat hai socho to pure desh me kitna bura hal hota hoga . Railway me मटेरियल का proper use hona bohot jaruri hai . Iska wastage bhot bada hota hai
I am currently working in commercial department of Indian Railways and have noticed people hesitating to buy a 5 rupees ticket. Many times they deliberately do not buy a ticket for traveling. Some people have even told me that travel should be free in trains! Sometimes parents don't buy ticket for their kids. Until and unless this mindset changes the country can't prosper.

I guess 2 year back, In a railway report I also read that Mugs worth 1.97 crore were stolen from railways. + Linen worth of crores were also stolen. And sad part is to recover the cost of those linen the amount is deducted from those IRCTC employees (who serve foods, clean compartments) in the train .

We need to upgrade Indian Railways & make it a profit business model like Delhi metro. Also, all the vacant posts of the Railways must be filled immediately as there is currently huge shortage of staff due to various scams & paper leaks like RRB NTPC scam, etc. Also, condition of passenger travel must be improved like good quality food & sanitation. This will help in reducing road dependency & train accidents.

रेलवे स्टेशन पे एंट्री & एग्जिट पे टिकट चेकिंग सिस्टम में सुधार करना चाहिए । अभी टिकट प्राइज बहोट ही कम है । टिकट में २५% बढ़ोतरी कर के न्यू २२०km स्पीड वाली ट्रेन के प्रोडक्शन बढ़ा कर रेल क्रांति लाना चाहिए ।।

Wonderful video. You're giving some good lessons to our public - "realise that all the 'public' infrastructure, including railways _is your own_!" Most people unfortunately think that is all 'theirs, not ours!' When the British were ruling us it was 'theirs' I can understand. But now that we are free and independent, all this is _our own_! Meri favorite hai Indian Railways mai hamesha koshish karta hu ki train travel karu par flight bhi kabh kabhi leni padti hai. Meri aaj ak train hai.
We people are equally responsible but Railways also lack their maintainence purpose. Look at the classy conditions of our metro stations where lacs of people travel everyday. even in the vande bharat trains after paying high ticket prices , railway ignores their basic maintainence duties. Due to lack of vigilance , ticket collectors settle without ticket passengers with nominal payments.

I believe, just like sex education, We need fundamental ecomonic education(mandatory for all)as well. Though Our education system lacks both but you guys coverup for it. Thanks a lot! Also, I'd like to mention that Mr. Ashwini Vaishnav(Railway Minister) had informed that railway is building dedicated freight corridors(DFC), Western and Eastern DFCs and also will be upgrading the current coaches with the international standard coaches that meet latest safety norms as well!
