Mine has a similar noise, I checked and the noise comes from the alternator, it is very likely that one of the two internal bearings is in trouble. This week I'm going to take out the alternator, take advantage of it to give a general on it and replace the bearings.
Just disconnect the serpentine belt and start the engine for a few seconds. I found a used alternator on eBay for $100 shipped, less hassle. My PN was 12317551256 or 12317555926.
@@MiltosAuto I think replacing the two bearings will pay off more, each one costs an average of five dollars. With 100 dollars you leave your new alternator doing a complete overhaul. With a used alternator you may have the same problem of bearings.
@@MiltosAuto At just over $ 70, I refined an entire alternator of a BMW 120i, replacing the two bearings, brushes and the copper-plated connector where the brushes connect.
Mine makes the same exact noise. I’ve been trying to figure it out. I suspected alternator pulley or alternator but didn’t start diving into things yet. Mine is a 2011 328i with 164k miles and still runs like a champ.
