Mine has a similar noise, I checked and the noise comes from the alternator, it is very likely that one of the two internal bearings is in trouble. This week I'm going to take out the alternator, take advantage of it to give a general on it and replace the bearings.

Mine makes the same exact noise. I’ve been trying to figure it out. I suspected alternator pulley or alternator but didn’t start diving into things yet. Mine is a 2011 328i with 164k miles and still runs like a champ.

This fixed mine the way it opens but then when it closes it clicks on the way in. Any help?

Ummmmmm.............dude. It's a 2005. You seriously didn't know what year the bike was that you were selling? What's even funnier is that 2008 is the first year since 1985 that Yamaha DIDN'T release a Vmax. LOL!

I have never taken our BMWs to the dealers unless it was warranty work. I can not afford the prices they charge, especially when the problem is not fix/solved........The valve cover gasket is a PITA on the N52. I would rather do three M54s valve gaskets than one N52. A former BMW mechanic here locally total me that the mechanics at the dealership are on straight commission. No work, no money or pay check. The more work done, the bigger the bill, the larger the pay check. Be carefully, Indy Mechanic told me that he had about 15 - N52s come through his shop in the last 2 years with broken serpentine belts - Half totaled the vehicle..........Yes I will say it again TOTALED THE CAR. He said it is not uncommon for when the belt breaks to get sucked into the crankshaft pulley and past the crankshaft seal and into the internals, once that happens the engine needs to be replaced. It is not cost effective to tear the engine apart for a safari on broken belt pieces. The cost of replacing the engine on a car with 100k or more is usually 75% of the value of the car. Most just look for another vehicle.

My car sounds exactly like this, right now. Car starts fine, then after about 5 seconds, it starts rattling and squealing loudly, while parked. When I drive it, it eases off a bit, and when I get up to about 1500-2000rpm, it quiets down. I visually inspected the belt and it looked okay. My next step is to disconnect the serpentine belt and see if the noise goes away while parked. My guess is one of the pulleys, probably alternator or water pump.
