Fantastic straight forward advice, step by step & really works, I was so frustrated keep getting the 'almost out to space' message & no matter how many things I deleted or moved to my SD card never seemed to make a difference. This information is brilliant & works got 10GB back by the morning. Thanks so much for your clear instruction.
It worked, I was able to recover literally 10GB of space and did not lose any photos. I left the phone overnight to convert pictures and videos to a storage saver and checked this morning to see if I had recovered storage space and boy did it work. Thank you so much for sharing this. How I wish I could share a screenshot but too bad TH-cam doesn't provide that option.
This was so helpful! I've just finished the last step and will check back in tonight to see how much space was freed up. Hoping it works just as you said. Looking for your next video about creating a new account just for photos....interesting. Thank you!!!
Thanks for the kind question - this shouldn't be happening. Make sure that auto-save is turned on, for safety I turn it on in both accounts. It should be offered in the sharing tab if it's not activated, or on desktop, go to photos.google.com - click on the cog for settings - click on the partner sharing pull down menu - there should be a 'save' option under there On a phone, go to the google photos app - click the sharing tab on the bottom - the shared account should show at the top, click on 'view all' at the top it should offer auto save, or show 'saving automatically' To change the setting, click on the 3 dots at the top - click on settings There's an option 'save to your account' , click on it to change it to 'all photos' I really hope this fixes it. Also, make sure obviously that your phone is set to the new photos account. If it deletes there, check on a computer that it's still available and undeleted in your 'personal' account that it was shared to. Fingers crossed!
Thanks Neil from Chicago it's awesome partner sharing my mistake was I archived my photos before sharing but I can do it one by from my archive thanks for sharing this a great help
Some great tips and workarounds, re Google Photos, thanks very much Neil. I've used 4 of your videos to sort out both mine and my wif'e phone, over the past week and this has worked very well for reducing the file size. However, there's something that I can't get to work on either phone, despite (I think) following all of your instructions carefully - when I delete photos from the original photo account, this also deletes the same photos from our new "partner" accounts. Also, on only my wif'e phone, it seems to be constantly backing up her partner account photos to her original account, although this doesn't result in any duplication on this account. I've just changed this to stop backups. If you have any suggestions, I'd be very oblighed for some help, please. Paul, Telford, Shropshire.
After months of struggling with out of storage warnings I came accriss this video which I found extremely useful and very easy to follow Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video it's been a tremendous success for me
Excellent stuff! When you compress the photos, is that just compressing photos that are saved on Google Photos or is it the ones in the Gallery on the phone too? (And if so, are they poorer quality if you open them?) Thanks.
Very detailed to follow (I took lots of notes) but you explain clearly and step by step. I will try this tomorrow; and I love the idea of a separate hard drive for backing up photos externally. Thanks so much for taking the time to do these helpful videos as it's so hard to find this information elsewhere. I've subscribed!
Hi Neil, I loved this video! I have been buying extra storage and this has really been an eye-opening alternative. I am just confused about the deleting part. So far, I have my original account (19/15Gb used), a new one for photos, from which I uploaded the photos from original account in storage saver mode, and has taken up 7gb/15gb space. I also have the shared photos between both accounts, with autosave on both accounts. Out of these three places where my photos are, which one(s) do I delete, and how does it ensure there no is no space taken up in either account? I would also prefer to delete them via the google photos app rather than connected to a laptop, do I do anything different via that scenario?
Hi, thanks for this. I've done everything think step by step. Now I've tried deleted few unwanted photo from the main phone storege, I did check it was deleted in 1 Google photo account and the new one that just set up. Not sure if I've missed anything.
Hi thanks for the kind question - I hope I'm understanding it correctly. If you don't want it to be deleted from both accounts, you have to make sure that 'auto save' is switched ON. You can do this in the sharing tab of the google photos phone app, or Google photos desktop. If the auto save option isn't shown, go into your settings, and go into partner sharing to show the auto save settings. Hope this helps and thanks again.

Hi, thanks for the great question. The way I'm coping with this is that if you set up the auto save with the partner sharing, I am deleting big photos and videos off my photos account, and the shared version to my original account stays there in original quality and not taking up the quota. Thanks for sharing your videos. I followed your instructions and created an account for photos. I did not delete any photos, and It did free up space. but only after a few days, storage almost full message is back. do I have to create another photos account?
Hi Neil. Thank you i ve loved following your tips. You ve made ot really simple yo follow. I ve still got 2006 photos not backed up after the file compressing etc..shall i just partner share whats been backed up delete the photos from my main google account then back up the rest and partner share that. Once photos are backed up on google account and i delete photos from my phone are the photos deleted from google account. Im too afraid ill lose my pictures :/
Hi thanks for the kind comment and question. I hope I'm understanding your question correctly. I'm assuming the 2006 photos are on your phone and not been backed up to Google. Firstly make sure you've backed everything up to a hard drive so nothing is lost. When you partner share, make sure you turn on auto save in both accounts - go into the sharing tab to turn on auto save, or the settings/partner sharing to turn it on there Once they're backed up to google, if you delete a picture using your computer it won't be deleted in Google Photos. But deleting using Gallery seems to work. It might be worth testing this for yourself and seeing if nothing bad happens for a day so that any sync will happen to test. I find this really confusing, but hope something here helps - good luck with your Google Photos!
I am very good at managing my email and it does not use much space. Your video is clear about the procedure to create account2 to sync old and new photos from account1. But I want to use account1 only for email and account2 for photos. How should I config account1 so it remains my main email account and no photos using space on it and at the same time account2 becomes the account where the old photos and new ones from account1 are stored? I need this to work on Android and Windows, with both accounts logged in at the same time. I do not want to have to sign out from one account to be able to sync emails or photos separately. Did your instructions already permit this or should I make specific configurations?
@neilmossey So I followed this from your other video and applied it to 2 seperate accounts with photos and for the most part it worked with the exception that it skipped a bunch of photos and I really dont feel like going through them 1 by 1 to see what it missed. Any suggestions? Thanks for the great video!
Hi Neil, thank you so much for your efforts! I'm not very tech savvy, but would this work if I already have an existing 2nd gmail account already created which I only used for work emails (hasn't even used 1gb of storage yet) Would I follow the same process and turn off back up on my main, turn it on on the 2nd account, partner share etc? Thanks again for your help!
Great videos. I hit the limit last night and it will really help. I have a question though. All the photos on my device are backed up in my original Gmail account. I have created a new Gmail account to use for the next yeat and set it as my account to back up to in Google photos. All the photos on my phone (that are already backed up on my original Gmail account) have started backing up again to the new account. Can I avoid this in some way (Google settings, renaming folders maybe) or do I need to remove them from my phone to my PC hard drive? Thanks
Hi Thanks for the kind comment and question - I really appreciate it. Unfortunately - I've faced this same issue myself and the only way around it is to remove the files from the phone: there doesn't seem to be an option for a start date or photos, it seems all or nothing. And if I don't remove them then my phone will just max out the new account. The partner sharing has helped so that by making the link and auto-save in both directions means I can search all photos and videos from either account without them taking up storage quota on the other account. Hope this helps!
I saw your orig video on this also, very helpful thank you. But I'm old and not understanding something.. At the end you say delete all photos from phone, then in the new account (acc 1) set up Google photos using the new email (acc 2) and then those photos will be copied to the orig goog photos account address? In full quality resolution?? Even after setting account 2 to storage saver?? What am I getting wrong? Thanks
Hello - thanks for the kind comment and question - and for hanging in there, I'm old too and it is complex(!!!) Yes! It's true! And bizarre! My phone is now backing up photos to the new photos account. Those photos are shared to my original old personal google account, at storage saver quality. The shared photos in the shared personal google account are - original - quality(!) Even though they are 'storage saver' quality on the photos account. And they do not take up any storage allowance in the shared personal google account It shows what a crock the saver quality is - Google still has and keeps the Original quality photo in its data banks. It's just that it stops us being able to access it. If at any time you want to download all the photos Google has, using their takeout.google.com service - the photos are downloaded at original quality - even if we have compressed them to storage saver quality. Hope this helps - but please ask any more questions - I double check these things myself!
woooas super detailed video !!! thank you so much!!! this was very helpful to me considering that i have 12 accounts full storage :0 just need to wait a few hours to see the results...
Neil I already backup photos on another google account but there were too many photos so that account got filled up as well and there are still more photos to back up, what do I do? Also, if most is already backed up, how to backup only the remaining ones and continue for all other photos to come? Thank you.
I'm confused... with the partner sharing, I thought that when you "save all photos" that you've shared with yourself that I'd be able to delete the original photo from the photo account because it would be saved on the account I shared it with, but that doesn't seem to be the case. It looks like if I share it to one account then delete it from the original account, it deletes it from the shared account too.
Oh wait a minute... they're both deleted from the "shared" folder but because I "automatically save all photos" it's saved in the photos folder! Well that's pretty cool! Thank you so much!
Hi Neil, can you please let me know if this will work with onedrive or is it one of the same,, if not could you please do a video on Outlooks onedrive, all the storage warnings look the same but I'm not very tec minded, Kind regards Tony
Thanks Tony I'm so sorry but I am really lost with Onedrive - my son's school makes him use it and I avoid it like the plague... totally lost. Hope you manage to find a fix
@@neilmossey thank you for getting back so soon Neil, I think I will try and move my photos to an external hard drive from onedrive, all the same great videos and I've already cleared half of my storage on Google by following your instructions, Cheers and happy new year, Tony.
Hi it has brought my storage down to 3.7 but I keep getting the storage warning CN I am still 80% full any idea why and thanks very much for this video 👍
I tried it several time now but after saying "compressing, this might take a few hours" I check again, and nothing ever happens. It just wont compress my photos and videos.. Do you know why?
Thanks for the kind comment and sorry to hear this Sometimes - for me - it does compress but the Google Photos 'gauge' hasn't updated. So it's actually gone down but takes a while for the measure to reflect that. It might be worth logging into another device into Google Photos and seeing if the compress has had any effect. Hope you manage to find a fix and good luck with your Google Photos
THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR TIPS I DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT TECHNOLOGY BUT I'M TRY TO NAVEGATE I AM NOT GOOD BOY TECHNOLOGY BUT I LOVE YOU COMMENT BECAUSE GOOGLE THE BELONG TO THE SAME META And I wish to see your comments is lovely Because English is my Second Language latino en Google very gree it
Wow, thank you for this. Really helpful and you get it ! Helping us see how corrupt big G actually are just as I was starting to think, especially when it came to the whole forcing a one subscription down my throat which price can change anytime and will full up eventually anyway creating an endless cycle 💀😂 Thanks again! Provided alot of clarity
I have watched this several times and at one point ( around the 9.22 min in video ) you say you had cleared 8gb of space, screenshot shows your storage used at 7.8gb of 15, then in the next shot you say, and show, that you have actually used 14gb of 15 ? Confused.
I have several accounts but i think there is a bug in google back up. I have selected one of my accounts for backup of photos (where I have larger capacity) but its still backs up to all of my google accounts. So im still getting the out of space message even though ine of my accounts has ame space.
I tried to add another email account password on cognito and filled out everything but asked me for my phone number theyll send a code where as yours said option beside the ph number ?? So it never worked to get online photo account ….
If you are compressing & it can't be undone, aren't those photos compressed when you move them to the new account you created? What exactly is a compressed video & photo?
have watched 2 videos on basically the same subject and they are so useful and explained perfect for me to follow thanks for this now off to your subscribe button.
I did as you told i make another account and share all my photos with new accout but after one day google disabled my new account Why so ? Can you explain?
So sorry to hear this and thank you for letting me know. Forgive me, I have no idea why the new account would be disabled because my new accounts are still working many months later. Do you need to validate the new account? Have you not been able to open the new account at all? Sorry that I cannot help with this but I hope you manage to find a fix. Good luck with your Google Photos.
I just got fed up and went to Google Photos and cleared my storage. I do have the backup switch button on. Everytime I wanted to download an app, my device would tell me I'm out of storage. So I saw all my photos and videos disappearing off my phone. I had over 700 pics on my camera gallery. Now it's down to 78. I had other picture/video folders on my phone gallery as well majority of them are now gone. Where do your pictures and videos go after you clear storage off your phone on google photos will I get them back?
wait so you can go in, and del the photos of the 2nd account keep it on the shared account, and do it all agian with the 2nd photo account!!! keep this on the DL google will fix it just a matter of time.
Hi MIguel - fantastic question. I suppose it's different for different people but I really use "search" a lot for my photos. The search is scary-good in google photos, especially for finding text or even faces. Good luck with your storage and thanks again for the kind comment.
I followed your video and did the convert existing photos & videos to storage saver 2 days in a row and i am still at 15.6 GB of my 15 what did i do wrong?
I'm out of storage! I've been deleting stuff for several weeks i feel like im getting no where. I've deleted a ton of photos 😞 my emails of really the problem. Is there any way to delete mass emails? I have like 30,000 emails! I'm lost. Help
@neilmossey 15:55 "I've now logged into my new photo google account and took a photo ...." How do you take a pic with your android camera so it uses the other account instead of your regular one?
I have followed the directions on your videos on how to compress my photos and it's not working for me. Can you reach out to me personally and help my account is full on Gmail but that is not the problem just too many pictures. I have tried many times.
I’m making a new account and when I press partner sharing, it closes my screen. When I go back to google photos, it logged me out saying add a phone number and when I did it’s saying this number been used too many times. I literally used mines, my moms and still having the same issue. Idk what to do 😢
I have exactly the same problem. I noticed as well Neil has replied to everyone on this page except you. I've also read you have to wait 5 days and you can use the new account I'm now on day 8. I even installed X to contact Neil directly but his account is not accepting any messages. If you've had a reply or have fixed the problem please let me know what you did very frustrating and annoying.
Why Google has been limiting storage like this is quite beyond me. They allowed unlimited photos and videos prior to 2021. It was fine the way it was, so I don't know why they changed it up. For what it's worth, my previous phone (my Pixel 4A 5G) was what I got at the beginning of 2021. And apparently, any photo that was backed up in Storage Saver quality wouldn't count. Unfortunately, since I upgraded to a Pixel 7 in September 2023, I now have to deal with the storage limit nonsense. This is quite appalling. Why should I have to be limited or have to pay to keep my photos and videos backed up? Google acts like it hasn't already made billions worldwide. It wouldn't be such a problem if every device allows Storage Saver quality backup with no charge towards data limit.
Hi thanks for this and sorry to hear you have this problem - This happened for me too. I've tried using other browsers and it seems to allow me to create a new account. Hope this helps.
Got a Question if it Compresses the Video's & or pictures is this only in Google photos or does it affect the Pictures & Videos thats in the Samsung Gallery App I only want the photos that are in the Google gallery App Compressed Thanks Allen please reply ASAP
This looks really useful, will try it tomorrow, thank you so much. Question about the back-up card: what criteria do I need? Presumably something that includes both the right socket for my phone (Samsung) and a USB to allow me to access what I save? (I have previously saved from my phone to laptop, but didn't have a memory stick that would fit my phone.) I must confess I'm still quite confused - mainly about the difference between photos on Google Photos vs on the phone itself - but maybe it will all seem clear after I sleep on it!
Fantastic straight forward advice, step by step & really works, I was so frustrated keep getting the 'almost out to space' message & no matter how many things I deleted or moved to my SD card never seemed to make a difference. Thanks for the video Neil. Question, did I miss something? If I delete a photo from 1 (main) account it's deleted in the shared account.
Thanks for the kind question - this shouldn't be happening.
Make sure that auto-save is turned on, for safety I turn it on in both accounts.
It should be offered in the sharing tab if it's not activated, or
on desktop, go to photos.google.com - click on the cog for settings

- there should be a 'save' option under there
On a phone, go to the google photos app
- click the sharing tab on the bottom
- the shared account should show at the top, click on 'view all'
at the top it should offer auto save, or show 'saving automatically'
To change the setting, click on the 3 dots at the top
- click on settings
There's an option 'save to your account' , click on it to change it to 'all photos'
I really hope this fixes it.
Also, make sure obviously that your phone is set to the new photos account. If it deletes there, check on a computer that it's still available and undeleted in your 'personal' account that it was shared to.
Fingers crossed!

Thanks
Hello - thanks for the kind comment and question - and for hanging in there, I'm old too and it is complex(!!!)
Yes! It's true!
And bizarre!
My phone is now backing up photos to the new photos account.
Those photos are shared to my original old personal google account, at storage saver quality.
The shared photos in the shared personal google account are - original - quality(!)
Even though they are 'storage saver' quality on the photos account.
And they do not take up any storage allowance in the shared personal google account
It shows what a crock the saver quality is - Google still has and keeps the Original quality photo in its data banks. It's just that it stops us being able to access it.
If at any time you want to download all the photos Google has, using their takeout.google.com service - the photos are downloaded at original quality - even if we have compressed them to storage saver quality.
Hope this helps - but please ask any more questions - I double check these things myself!
Thank you for this... It's so helpful!!!
omg, thanks again for this incredible tutorial!
Thanks SAR ur a good teacher special thanks to you dear ur helping me yesterday
Super tips and keep going 👍👌☺️
Thanks for the kind comment - I appreciate it! 🖐
woooas super detailed video !!! thank you so much!!! this was very helpful to me considering that i have 12 accounts full storage :0 just need to wait a few hours to see the results...
I've already had backup turned off and it still saves my pictures. I don't want google having my pictures
So will you not lose out on photos if something happens or your phone ? How does turning off the backup help?
Thank you
thanks for your information
My pleasure - thanks for taking the time to leave a kind comment.
Thanks sounds great 👍 I will try
That's an amazing & very helpfull video...
Hi Neil, can you please let me know if this will work with onedrive or is it one of the same,, if not could you please do a video on Outlooks onedrive, all the storage warnings look the same but I'm not very tec minded, Kind regards Tony
Thanks Tony
I'm so sorry but I am really lost with Onedrive - my son's school makes him use it and I avoid it like the plague... totally lost. Hope you manage to find a fix
@@neilmossey thank you for getting back so soon Neil, I think I will try and move my photos to an external hard drive from onedrive, all the same great videos and I've already cleared half of my storage on Google by following your instructions, Cheers and happy new year, Tony.
@@LindaTaylor-x8c That sounds like a really good plan! Thanks for the kind comments and good luck with your storage
Thank you so much this really helped me keep up the good work
Does storage saver reduce the image resolution?
Your video helped! Thank you so much.
Thanks for the very kind message Dora, I appreciate it! Good luck with your Google storage...
Hi it has brought my storage down to 3.7 but I keep getting the storage warning CN I am still 80% full any idea why and thanks very much for this video 👍
I tried it several time now but after saying "compressing, this might take a few hours"
I check again, and nothing ever happens. It just wont compress my photos and videos.. Do you know why?
Thanks for the kind comment and sorry to hear this
Sometimes - for me - it does compress but the Google Photos 'gauge' hasn't updated. So it's actually gone down but takes a while for the measure to reflect that.
It might be worth logging into another device into Google Photos and seeing if the compress has had any effect. Hope you manage to find a fix and good luck with your Google Photos
THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR TIPS I DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT TECHNOLOGY BUT I'M TRY TO NAVEGATE I AM NOT GOOD BOY TECHNOLOGY BUT I LOVE YOU COMMENT BECAUSE GOOGLE THE BELONG TO THE SAME META And I wish to see your comments is lovely Because English is my Second Language latino en Google very gree it
Thank you so much I didn't save as much space as you but I'm not that tech savvy either.😂
Thank you sir, working tip
I don't know why my pics in my phone gallery always gone when I turn off the backup..... Can u help me?
Thanks
If you have an account per year, can each of those all share with my main account at the same time? It looks like I can only have one partner share?
Wow, thank you for this. Really helpful and you get it ! Helping us see how corrupt big G actually are just as I was starting to think, especially when it came to the whole forcing a one subscription down my throat which price can change anytime and will full up eventually anyway creating an endless cycle 💀😂 Thanks again! Provided alot of clarity
Thank you so much you have really helped me save money
Hit skip at that option. It all worked for me
Thanks for the updates
If you are compressing & it can't be undone, aren't those photos compressed when you move them to the new account you created? What exactly is a compressed video & photo?
Hi
Thank you for sharing
Thanks Sean - good luck with your Google Storage!
Thank you😊
have watched 2 videos on basically the same subject and they are so useful and explained perfect for me to follow thanks for this now off to your subscribe button.
I did as you told i make another account and share all my photos with new accout but after one day google disabled my new account
Why so ? Can you explain?
So sorry to hear this and thank you for letting me know.
Forgive me, I have no idea why the new account would be disabled because my new accounts are still working many months later.
Do you need to validate the new account?
Have you not been able to open the new account at all?
Sorry that I cannot help with this but I hope you manage to find a fix. Good luck with your Google Photos.
thanks but going to takeout google is easier by far click the everything box and downloaded to hard drive
The photos and videos will get stored in Trash/ Deleted Items for 30days.
Is there a way to delete photos from Google without removing them from my phone?
wait so you can go in, and del the photos of the 2nd account keep it on the shared account, and do it all agian with the 2nd photo account!!! keep this on the DL google will fix it just a matter of time.
yes! And even better, if the photos on the 2nd account are set to storage saver... they appear in the 1st account as original quality!
If you backup your photos to an external hard drive why would you need google to back up the same photos? redundancy?
I'm lost. Help
Wouldn't it be easier to back up you photos on a flash drive and then delete them on the phone. or even turn off google photos.
What if i dont see DCIM? in internal storage
But when I delete a photo on my original account, the shared album deletes it too. What do I do?
It was help! Thank you 🙏
@neilmossey 15:55 "I've now logged into my new photo google account and took a photo ...." How do you take a pic with your android camera so it uses the other account instead of your regular one?
I've re listened and heard you didn't actually say that, sorry. But how would one do it anyway
I have followed the directions on your videos on how to compress my photos and it's not working for me.
Can you reach out to me personally and help my account is full on Gmail but that is not the problem just too many pictures. I have tried many times.
Amazing video! you helped me a lot, my google photos said i had 17gb of 15gb full lol, now everything is working okay! {3
That's really great to hear @Mxrphi - thanks for taking the time to leave a kind comment and good luck with your storage!
wow!!! Thank Thank 100 times
If you've had a reply or have fixed the problem please let me know what you did very frustrating and annoying.
thanks bossman 😊
What is the easiest way to delete all photos from your Google account?
perfect thanks
Too true, it is really frustrating.
Big thanks for taking the time to leave this kind comment, I appreciate it and good luck with your Google storage
Reducing the size of all photos and videos in Google Photos did not work for me. After a day of waiting, it still says that storage is full 😐
Asks for phone number, when I put, it says this contact number used!!!
Hi thanks for this and sorry to hear you have this problem - This happened for me too.
I've tried using other browsers and it seems to allow me to create a new account.
Hope this helps.
