Need for Speed Carbon was my first Game ever, my mom bought me the GameCube and Carbon and it became my Favourite game. I love the game because of its atmosphere, how the music changes based on what car you use, the subtle neon theme of the cities night time, and the different parts of it. And the car list. That red RX8 has been my favourite car for so long. The way it sounds is so nice, and my favourite colour has always been red. Thinking on it that may be the reason it is. But I just love this game, and I always come back to it. I recently bought a GameCube, same colour as my old one and got Carbon right off the bat. Beat it in 2 days. Got a ps2, got Carbon, beat it in 4 days. Got a pc. You guessed it. Got carbon and I’m playing through it again and trying out some mods. This game is so crucial to my interests in vehicles and love for video games.

Yeah the game has like entire city textures left in it that are unused. The map was planned to be three times the size that it is and was supposed to include ways into the canyon without glitching. If you download the beta, some of that content is still there. And if youve ever wondered where some of the early crew members come from. They had a former crew but their crew was cut from the game.

@@thenoblesse5313 oof I would have to whip out my PS2 some time to tell you but if remember that if you beat the career mode and go into a certain quick race set to no cre members and one enemy, youl get the intro scene for a boss and the same car will always show up to race you. It's a grey golf with the same paint job as one of the earlier crew members, I think his name is al. To reduce the amount of tracks youl have to test, I remember also that it was specifically in San Juan so that my help you find it.

I heard Payback was intially going to be a Sequel to it, but they ended up scrapping the idea somewhere along the development
Actual speedrunner here, the real average speedrun time for it is ~3hrs.
Opponents don't rubber-band until you upgrade your car stats. It's the same as with Most Wanted. That's why you shredded through half the game in a stock Dodge.
Most wanted is worst even if you cheated with unlimited nitrous you can't go far away

Crashing off the Canyon is SO underwhelming too... This was my first NFS game so nostalgia makes me fond of it but in retrospect the time frame given to make these games always meant they were a few steps short of their full potential.
Yeah its unfortunate they weren't given enough time to flesh out. I was excited for the canyon races because it brought to mind the final scene of Tokyo Drift, but the distance mechanic didn't really do it for me. And you're right, falling off the canyon isn't fantastic. But unless they killed the protagonist I guess it's the best they could do hahahaha

That poor M3 GTR has got some serious PTSD from getting wrecked by that guy. I hope it found its way to an owner that doesn't abuse it like Faceless McRacer Jones.
I played thr gamecube version and i believe the difficulty of the game scales depending on the car you are using, if you take a Gallardo for example and modded to it's limits the game gets very difficult because you are using a Tier 3 Exotic max stats, i ended up using and Subaru Sti stock only with Nitrous and thr game got much easier to beat but use the Aston Martin Boss car from the 3rd area peak stats and the game gets very hard to beat
Also I figured it would be interesting to know that the crew member al has a boss. And his boss is still coded into the game. If you do the quick race track "salazar street" with cree turned off and ai opponents set to one it will put you in a race with the missing boss. It's prty interesting and if you get the chance you should try it out. To make the race easier to find it's the 54th track in the quick race map. At least this all applies to the ps2. Also figured I'd say this is some great content, you've earned my sub.

That's a good question. I have never had a problem. It comes down to fair use under commentary. Since I am reviewing the game and talking about it, it's allowed. If I was straight up ripping the game files and uploading them to make money off them, that would be illegal, because I would be passing them off as my own and making money from someone else's work.
That said, I've seen Nintendo is extra stingy with that kind of stuff in spite of it being protected so I would be a bit more careful there.

I dont know about you but Palmont feels like a bland location compared to Rockport. Maybe it was due to the night time which makes the atmosphere looks dead
I did like aspects of it, but I totally agree. Rockport had very distinct areas, and you know at least the basic area you were in. I think if palmont would have been a bit more lively and more neon filled, it would have made sense to have it at night. Instead it just all kind of blended together besides the pier basically, in my opinion.
About the difficulty and getting it done with stock cars, the opponents cars are just going to underperform if your car is lower tier or what upgrades it misses, idk sure about all upgrades but from what i seen if i don't install NO2 then no one else has it installed, you can finish the game and not even the last boss in game still won't have NO2 on his car, i did not check Darius cars to see it for sure btw

This video is very informative yet so underrated :(. I have downloaded carbon yesterday on pc for the first time and my thoughts are same as yours on this game .
Just a classic case of a game needing more time in the oven :/
I get the impression that you kind of just skimmed past most of the game and mostly spent the time either customizing the visual stuff or buying new cars and just being able to easily beat races, since the opponents are pretty much scaled to your car’s performance (or lack thereof). The Rubberbanding is so insanely evil but fair at times, it’ll punish you to Hell and back for daring to get in front and dare to make even one slip-up…but also punish ITSELF if you’re driving a Stock Tier 1 or Tier 2 car against any of the Bosses (See: various NFS Carbon videos with stock cars Vs. The Bosses!)
It’s no wonder the game was so easy if you’re either using the “better” cars since the Dodge Charger, Lotus Elise, SLR McLaren, Chevy Corvette Z07, and even the Mazdaspeed3/RX-8 make their respective areas in the game incredibly easy. However, I think it kind of sucks out the fun of the game to simply not engage with the mechanics (like the Crew Members, Rewards from the Challenge Series) or go for the side-content and even have been able to play the Online Races/Game Modes.
I think the claim that the Crew Members “don’t work” is pretty inaccurate since they either decide a race for you or not depending on how suped up YOUR Car is; even give passive bonuses if you bring them in. If you’re doing SpeedTraps, Nikki (one of two Drafters) pretty much keeps up with you OR, if you mess up (hit traffic just before the finish/get overtaken in a bad moment) and don’t restart the race, she’ll win the race for you or get you back up to speed if you know how to use her since her “Drafting Zone” practically makes cornering extremely easy (just tap the Speedbreaker before the turn!) in a game where you CONSTANTLY NEED TO MAKE TURNS/DO SHARP CORNERING. Or, as you’ve conveniently dismissed in a way to totally try and undermine the game further…
…forgot all about the “Easy Mode” character, Sal & Yumi (the Scouts). You know, the ones who always win races?
The claim that they’re “too busy finding shortcuts” basically doesn’t say half of it…
They’re basically in First Place by default since they’re constantly going ahead to SCOUT for you. Now, I understand that you didn’t need them and dismissed them for that reason. But I just think it’s kind of a hard diss to the whole Crew Member aspect of the game since they add some backup & even some friendly banter in races to make it seem more like a concerted effort to take over each territory. That is pretty underrated and goes over a lot of peoples’ heads all the time!
Then…let’s talk Exotics…
The most dynamic class of cars in the game by far! You start the Exotic Class off with what many dismiss as being “the slowest Tier 1 car”, the Alfa Romeo Brera (they’re wrong btw; it is actually the 300C SRT8)…
It’s basically the closest thing to the feeling of driving a starter Civic from the OG NFS Underground game and watching it at least be competitive up to maybe Angie (if you’re as good as you claim to be…) and even with Pursuits & Drifting! Then, you have either the pseudo-Exotics in Tier 2
• Porsche Cayman S & Lotus Elise, Tuners in Disguise
• Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG, a Muscle Car in disguise
I point this out because each class is usually identified by its top aspect; Tuners with their Handling/Grip & Muscle Cars with their weighty handling and Acceleration. The Tier 2 Exotics are basically all three aspects in these cars COMBINED in many aspects and could be considered the most fun to drive cars in the game (that aren’t Muscle Cars or the Nissan Skyline GT-R…)
Tier 3? SLR McLaren itself is the best car in the game imo (not the Corvette); Ford GT being the American Exotic is naturally great at Acceleration but somehow has great handling too?! I could go on, but you get my point:
It’s kinda sad to see how little care was given to the game here in a rush to talk about how its shortcomings Versus Most Wanted make it somehow inferior…but that’s just on the surface.
I’m only just discovering this video after I finished 3 playthroughs, one for each Class; testing out each car and really giving this game its fair due instead of trying to look at it as “a game that wasn’t as good as its prequel” when all I keep hearing in retrospect is the opposite…
…that Carbon was misunderstood and honestly pretty bold and different, which had it be a victim of the transition into HD Consoles and the “less content = more DLC to sell” mindset that Publishers got their fill on starting right around the time Carbon was finishing up.
This would’ve been a great retrospective IF time was taken to get a feel for every car and class instead of boiling them down to “this one good, this one great, let’s not talk about the other ones…”; mentioning how important it is that this game is one of the very first to introduce Americans to Touge races outside of Initial D!
the territory control is such a cool idea, tho it could never work in carbon because of how small the game and map are, it had a cool concept, but was limited by time and hardware.

It was more of a personal thing. I love exotic cars in games and in real life, I just think in a lot of games they're OP and I wanted to drive some other cars.

Customizing your cars for your team logo is so cool, and also doing it for your crew members. It ads a touch of realism.
My fav team logo was the dragon crest.

For me NFS Carbon was the most unique one, because of the Vibe, Atmosphere, Art Style and Crew Territory thing, NFS Carbon and Most Wanted will remain for me the best NFS games of the series.. ☯️✌

Need for Speed games were so good back in the day. I remember growing up with the PS2 versions and now they just suck. Dont understand how it went from a game where we customized the cars to where they give us a fully modded stock car

Here are my nitpicks with the game:
1 - The car tier system feels really limiting when previous games let you turn a weak starter into a 500+ hp monster.
2 - The police are just a post-race annoyance now, and the destructible objects were rare and underwhelming.
3 - Customization is actually worse than MW. Less premade parts and the "autosculpt" feature is very underwhelming with a few generic parts per category.
4 - All the paint types have some weird permanent shadow effect, you can't even have a white car because it looks like some weird silver instead. But If you try to make white with "Iridescent paint" you can actually see the car without the ugly shadowing effect.
5 - You only get $500 for races you've already beaten, it makes getting extra money so tedious.
Things I liked: Older cars, no obstacle course "drag races", less traffic.
I would've removed half of the UG2 and MW carryover parts anyway because they look like garbage lol.

Scouts are pretty darn usefull if you only remember one city, its especially hard to find shortcuts in late game because you are focused on the race and or trying to not spin out your corvette z06. (Best car)
This video captures my sentiment towards this game quite well I honestly look at it as a stripped down mod for most wanted at best and after my only play through of this game years ago I never looked back it was so forgettable that I forgot I even played it to begin with and don't get me started on the mediocre soundtrack in contrast I actually look forward to replaying most wanted every few years
let me get some of my grievances with this game out of the way, it's one of those games that i wanted to like but couldn't like as much as i wanted to for a number of reasons, which are as follows - did we need another city based on los angeles and las vegas after bayview? a different setting would have been more interesting, the progression showing you after every race that your percentage has gone up 1%, so i know that there's give or take 100 races/events in the campaign, ridiculous, albeit fun drifting, just bring back the drifting from the underground games, the wind/speed effect, you know the lines at the back of your car when you're going fast, the game would simply look better without it, we never get the M3 that we spent the whole last game working for back, we never get darius's le mans quattro, despite him saying "the keys are in it" suggesting we just raced him for slips, that's an issue with most wanted as well, that ONE car that's in the game but you can't buy, you have to work for it, but darius's car is even more of a tease because you don't get to use a le mans quattro at all to my knowledge, replaying races is basically penalized by paying you, i think $100, $200 if you have the right crew member, so how the hell am i supposed to buy and upgrade new cars? why not just be like most wanted and have the same payout even upon replaying? the story ended up not making a whole lot of sense, like, ok, i understand nikki's purse got swapped with an identical one and hers had the prize money, or the buy in from every racer, but what exactly was in the new purse that it got switched with? the game doesn't give you a clear look, that seems like an important plot point they just didn't think about and glossed over, the acting in this game is simply bad, it was in most wanted too, but that felt a lot more intentional, like they were aiming to be cheesy, and finally the soundtrack sucks, bring back metal, underground 1, 2 and most wanted still have the best racing game soundtracks for me
carbon was a good successor to mw05, it continued on the lore very well, while short, the lack of insane tedium makes up for it, (by adding a little more tedium but removing the endless and annoying grind) but also im very biased, but ive played both, both hold up well, (mb not in graphics) they both have good stories, the custom racing events are fun like drift in carbon and drag on mw05 but they are both great games

This is the only NFS I actually enjoyed and I have played it maybe five or six times on different consoles. I really do see your points, but the rest is still enough for me to love it.
I think the mechanics that I liked most were the Canyon Races and the territory-mechanic. Both were super cool and made absolute sense within the universe.
Also I loved how much attention they gave to the world and the story but not only the cars. Oh and don't get me started on the music, you didn't even mention that! The music gives such a heavy vibe into the game, it's so atmospheric.
I'm not that much of a car enthusiast, shit I don't even own a drivers license, but DAMN Carbon really made me feel like a street racer when I was 10 years old.
But maybe one has to see the game from the time it came out to see the true beauty of it, or maybe this is just a nostalgic glorification.
I also read here in the comments that the game was intended to be bigger and filled with much more content. I would really like to play this version of the game or maybe they even dig out Carbon someday to bring that long-lost game mechanics back into a pretty shitty series? I'd even preorder.
need for speed carbon i think has the best plot out of all the NFS games... i miss it in like newer games that have come out over the years here

Carbon cannot be a Most Wanted sequel at all not even close if it didn't have cops and bounty being a huge part in it. It also doesnt have hype in the cutscenes like most wanted.. most wanted had hype in pretty much every cutscene. and how u lose ur M3 immediately when getting into palmont. I only played the game with a mod that gave me access to the M3 through out the entire career mode. it's so bull$hit
Lamest car in both games Razor should've kept it. I'd take almost any blacklist rival car over it.

Carbon looks way better when you max out the settings. The lighting at night is just cooler.

I know this video is three years old, but you're right and wrong about some things. The game IS way too short, and allot of content was cut from the game, there's also a mod that fixes that and its dope but anyway.
The games balance idea is great but its wayyy off. The in game car stats hardly matter compared to the driving of the vehicle ,though they do give a rough idea of its performance. The car you chose at the beginning of the game, the camaro, is the BEST T1 car, why is a starter car with those stats? No fucking idea.
The charger you used without nitrous (my favorite car in the game lol) is one of the best T2 muscle cars and can keep well enough up with T3 cars way above itself, and its one of the fastest muscle cars the game has.
The final boss fight with Darius where you used the Impreza, that car is faster than most exotics AND handles way better.
All Im sayin is the choices you made heavily impacted the difficulty of your experience during the last half of the game and somewhat during the beginning portions too. While the game for 70% of it, is extremely easy, that last 30% does bring a minor/medium challenge to most people.
I love this game, it sucks that crews dont help you during pursuits, and that pursuits have no reward with lots of possible penalty's. But the main thing that _really_ sucks about this game, is how it feels like you hardly scale at all. In MW you could FEEL yourself getting farther in the game, but in this game the camaro caps at 140MPH and your end game car might see you hitting 185 in a race. You get some feeling of progression, but it never feels like it matters. As long as you pick the right car and quickly max it out, you're gonna be able to beat this game.
All that being said, I would check out the mod that extends/finished the game. It adds all of the content the game should have had, puts the story how it was meant to be told, and fixes pretty much every problem this game offered. The only problem it doesnt fix, is defendiing your territory. I think that should happen way less, under the reasoning someone should have to beat your players best time around the track before beiing able to challenge you head to head.

You didn't mention the soundtrack. This has to be one of the lamest song lineups of all the mid 00s NFS games. I mean in Most Wanted, we had Disturbed. DISTURBED. That shit was lit. There's like three songs I like in Carbon, and even then, they get old quickly. Everything else is garbage.
Also it's a Charger you had, not a Challenger. But Charger, Challenger, they share a lot of similar design cues and even have a similar name, so to people who don't know many muscle cars, it's an understandable mistake. The Charger is Dom's car from The Fast and the Furious, the General Lee from The Dukes of Hazard, or even one of the cars from Bullitt, if classic movies are your thing.
Lamest song line ups? Are you high? Thee Metro Riots,Tiga,Priestess,Sway, Ladytron and Ekstrak? Garbage? What are you smoking?
I did say there was a few that I liked, just not many. The crew race music was really cool, not going to lie, and I liked the exotic garage/menu theme. But otherwise, there really just wasn't a lot of songs that stood out to me in the way previous games had. But objectively, that's just my own tastes and opinion. I say more power to you that you enjoy a lot more of the soundtrack than I.
Not going to lie, I wish I WAS smoking something. You almost have to be when the last stage of the game kicks in, and you're facing against tier 3 cars with tier 2s, because you haven't unlocked tier 3s yet. God help you if there's a Corvette or a Viper you're up against. The only way I can even get by until I get a decent tier 3 is using the classic Charger and having Samson blocking. I want to know what the DEVELOPERS were smoking.
Am I the only one who hates the speed lines in NFS games post Underground 2? Speed lines are so styoobeed.
Your graphics look quite low quality, when you showed footage of mw i tought it was some sort of early beta build bcuz the lighting was diffrent and all.
just mod the damn game and compare it to any nfs.

You kinda skipped over the massive improvement to the tuning system.
I really did enjoy this game, more so than Most Wanted actually. I really enjoyed the turf system, it made the progression feel better for me. My main crew member was always a pathfinder, though, they are much better at winning races than the other classes.
That's understandable. But when the game is easy enough without even upgrading the car, tuning really didn't mean anything to me.
And of course, as ever, this is just my opinion.

True. It's just one of those games I liked that I don't know if I'll have the desire to play again, if you know what I mean. I think it's better than it gets credit for, and with so much returning from before it's worth playing if you want an open world racing game or just more Most Wanted. I think my biggest problem is that it was over before I could get into it. That's probably why I sound so down on it.
The ps3 version of carbon is the best version. The graphics look sharper compared to Xbox 360 & pc…
Carbon really feels so rushed, even more its PS2 port that locks some cars permanently unless you wipe out your save from the memory card and has some annoying bugs. Things like the speedbreaker or the cops seems to being introduced only because it was easier to just copy pase MW engine than doing its own thing. And it removes also some aspects of MW like the helicopter for... some reason?
I still like this game, and i aprecciate some of the improvements but MW despite all would remain as the better game, as much as Carbon fans dont want to admit it. MW is a finished game, Carbon not. Comparing Carbon and MW is like comparing the Crash trilogy with Twinsanity to be honest. It would be cool a mod that refines Carbon experience though. This is probably the beginning of the end for NFS. Dont get me wrong, i think Carbon is much better than any future game, but this is when EA started to being greedy, and not only with the NFS series. This is also proof by the fact that there´s noticeable much more DLC content than previous entries.
Every black box game after UG1 feel very unfinished or watered down in some way.

I think the NFS series started to feel really rushed after High Stakes (and even High Stakes was rushed).

I also made a game with tons of ideas that i had to cut off because i though they werent good ideas or just too ambitious for my skills but i still finish everything i want from the base game without time constrains involved.
