I love this show, when my son was born I brought one of the seasons to the hospital to watch while we were in the hospital room. He’s 11 now and we both still love to watch it together.
Here in Brazil it was very successful, but many people who watched HunterxHunter, did not see this work and those who saw Yu Yu Hakusho prefer YYH more.
I didn't know about it until a few years ago or so. Had I known about it in the early nineties I would have been so into it. I would have watched it from beginning to end.
i cant stop watching YYH. it has been engraved into my brain and my heart, literally have all the scenes and probably even the lines in my head. just too much of a masterpiece, once i hear a song from their ost I instantly feel the nostalgia.
If any 90s property could use one final arc or movie to give it that final bang, it's Yu Yu Hakusho. It reminds me of berserk in a way since both deal with very real complex human emotions. I got into as a senior in high school 10 years ago and absolutely fell in love with the characters. It's interesting comparing it to the other popular 90s Shonen since the characters feel so real and human. Can not recommend this enough. Easily in my top 3 manga/anime of all time

I actually think the anime and manga endings compliment each other quite well. Like Togashi stated, the last arc would just turn into a rehash of Dark Tournement, and while as I get that would be more satisfying to see, I am okay with what we got if we consider what is in the manga, like fleshing out Mukuro as a character. I am glad that Yu Yu Hakusho didn't live to become a parody of itself, and ended giving us a great send off to all of those wonderful characters.
The purpose of the tournament to reunify everyone in a competition is far more important than the fights, so i kinda agree with him, and on top of that yusuke was no match for many of the demons participating but i can understand that some fights between the strongest demons could have been cool
Out of all the stuff I've followed in my life this Anime has been one of the biggest influence's. After a long weeks work in meat market cutting porkchops and scrubbing blood out of tables I would buy a nice bottle of Whiskey or Brandy and wait for the show to start, alot of good times and God knows it helped save some of my sanity.
Just finished the anime for this. As a huge fan of HxH this reaffirmed my belief that Togashi is a master of his craft and it saddens me that so many people give him shit for wanting to be human and live besides having to endlessly draw manga. Here's to hoping HxH resumes when he deems it appropriate, which is all that should matter.
To be fair togashi frequently blames himself for yu yu hakushos ending saying it was a failure and that it ended because he is selfish and is sorry to the fans. But yeah tbh while yu yu could've ended better it was still amazing honestly
I find it unfortunate that several of the early cases from the manga were never adapted, but I more or less understand why they left them, out seeing as they have essentially zero connection to the rest of the series. That story with the old man still makes me cry when I talk about it.

There is something uniquely organic about Togashi's art style. It's so fluid and varied without ever clashing. It's a style that I could never replicate. Berserk is the greatest piece of fiction ever put to paper but YYH is my favorite anime of all time. Kurama and Hiei being two of my favorite characters in anime. YYH had such a huge impact on me as a child, even while DBZ/GT was still going strong. Whenever I rewatch it I still get somewhat emotional when I get to the final episode. It always feels as if I’m telling friends goodbye.
While the peace with the havenly worls is rushd, th demon world arc is actually nicely cleaned up. If there could hve been told a lot more. I mean yosuke did archieve some peace, thats in line with nature, he isnt he saviour whois op there anymore, An its an interesting growth. Could there be more, yes, but its a really good end. You can tell that Studio Pierrot of the 90s Loved Togashis work, they did an excellent job with expanding on the endings personally. Yusuke isn’t a savior and it reflects nature in a way .
My one wish for the series would be if The first two volumes received an OVA adaptation. I love the first two volumes, the characters especially, from the earthbound spirit girl waiting for her crush, to the little tanuki child and the old man, and the boy and his dog!
I’ve just recently finished the manga nd I love it and I’ll just say this coming from someone who loves the anime I do prefer the manga a slight bit more than the anime in my books. But both are just so good
I wanted to see and read this show since many years and finally managed to do so last year. It was as good as I expected, though of course it did age somehow but that was to be expected.
I love the show but I love the manga even more! The first volume in my opinion is the best. It is full of heart and story. Completely different from normal Shone Jump mangas. The story with the old man and the tanuki makes me cry every time.
I was born in 94 and also have only seen the dubbed version. It’s easily my favorite anime if not series ever. Growing up I watched the regular stuff like DBZ on Tsunami, some dragon ball, first few seasons of digimon, a couple sporadic episodes of early Pokémon, yu-gi-oh, and the Saturday morning cartoons stuff. It sucked because I could never talk to anyone about it bc all they would watch were the ones listed. I know the main reason was because it would only air on tsunami every week night at 11 pm or 12 midnight about a few hours after DBZ would air. So I had to put the volume level pretty low and pretend to be sleeping if I wanted to see it lol. Since then I’ve only watched attack on titan a few episodes of dragon ball super so I definitely wouldn’t be considered an anime head. But I’ve since randomly binge watched each seasons separately a few times since. Nowadays people are lucky they have the ability watch anything at any time, but the silver lining is that i was never able to watch about 10 episodes of season 1, the second half of season 3, and none of season 4 until I was like 17 or 18. So it was pretty awesome to be able to experience it as brand new 10 years later. It was nearly perfect imo. The only thing I wish is that they didn’t rush season 4 causing it to end on an abrupt uncharacteristic note. Don’t get me wrong s4 is still good, but it’s plot had the potential to be the best of them all. I know they say it’s because it took a major toll on the creator of the manga. Something I don’t really understand is why so many people like hunter hunter. I tried hard getting into it but I couldn’t even make it past the middle of season 2 on Netflix during a 12 hour drive. I could watch the million summaries made on here, but none of them seem to really interest me. Seriously why or what do most people like about it?? It’d be kinda neat if they remastered them, but honestly I could care less because the older art style has aged so gracefully that it’s refreshing. From the animations to the fillers (which I consider to have almost none that don’t have a good purpose or are entertaining in some other way.) if they were to do a remake or reboot I’m not sure if I could watch it if the original voice actors of team yurameshi especially yusuke and hiei. Those voices really made the characters on top of all the already great character development for me. Does anyone think it’s possible or slightly likely for them to make some type of reboot. I’m aware of the OVAs, but not a fan of voices especially since they’re mostly subbed. I know a lot of times gone by since they were first used, but I think the lady who does genkai and frieza still works as well as Justin cook (yurameshi.) They say the reason Justin cook did so good was because he was 19. So I don’t really expect for him to have that same voice. They can create a story line that begins with yurameshi being much older and have him take the sensui position as the older, more powerful spirit detective. Hell, they could even just do one more season with yusuke having the same epiphany sensui had when he turned against humanity many years before yusuke took over his shoes. I wouldn’t mind if it all ended with yurameshi becoming more twisted than sensui, and he was able to accomplish something more sinister than sensui, and left us all in a wtf state. Maybe koenma was a secret reincarnate of an unknown but the most powerful demon and in order to gain complete control over each realm, he has to work undercover as a lonewolf until he was able to exploit the vulnerability of spirit world. I’m just throwing stuff out there. Anyways , sorry for the long post.
Just starting to re-read Yu Yu Hakusho, I have read it years ago and forgot most (and I think I skip alot too when reading the first time). I have watched the anime and the recent netflix live action, gotta say my favorite probably goes to the manga. I especially like the chapter that isn't animated. Lot is togashi's marks didn't get animated so it's unfortunate
Yusuke best MC. Also I. Can’t pick between the 3 who is best supporting character but if I’d have to chose maybe heie and even then I’m still not sure about it cause they all so damn good
not gonna lie i watched like the first few tens of episodes of YUYU Hakusho years ago and never finished the Anime or read the Manga. but idc, i think it's actually a fitting aproach to Togashi's works since he himself never actually finishes them.
I just watched it front to back in like a month and compared a lot of moments back and forth between the English lines and the Japanese lines, and I think similarly to how the anime as a whole improves upon the manga (albeit with some cut content), the English dub improves upon the usually straightforward Japanese lines with ones that bring out more personality or humor. Although there are some moments where I prefer the Japanese lines (as they are translated), I think Funimation saw and ceased upon opportunities and did an excellent job with their embellishments as well. And as fast as the the last arc went, the manga seems to have some content of its own that the anime didn't adapt.
I wish they hadn't done Kuwabara in the way they did at the end the first fight of the Dark Tournament. Makes him look stupid when, in reality, he was caught off guard and couldn't even get back in the ring.
Let’s be honest if he would’ve kept going yu yu hakusho would be up their with Naruto and DBZ but yet I’m okay we’re it is now but at least I can revisit it anime here and their in my life and still enjoy it.
I call this the THREE'O CLOCK HIGH of anime and i like it and also THREE'O CLOCK HIGH it's a film from 1987 you should check it out it's just like Yu Yu Hakusho but without the ghost stuff you will like it it had a fight at the end good movie.
This is one of the rare series where I enjoyed the adaptation more than the original! Not that I don’t love the manga, especially the the first bits that we don’t get in the anime, and anything exploring chapter black is some of my favorite fiction ever.
Yu Yu Hakusho my first love of anime next to maybe dragon ball z Yu Yu Hakusho is also one of the only animes where I prefer the English voice acting over sub
Wasn't Yusuke 13 when he got hit by a car? Either way, love this series! Still do! I was 22 when this sucker came to the states and I'm glad it had such an impact! Also I love Kuwabara too! I wasn't expecting it either!
I'm honestly a bit disappointed by this review. Not in terms of quality or summarization (great job sir! This was my first video of yours I had the pleasure of watching), but because I was HOPING the manga would have been more fleshed out than the anime. Specifically, hints of characters learning new techniques and overall expanding themselves even more than what I experienced from the anime. Case in point, both Kurama and Hiei taking interest in learning from Genkai, or Kuwabara expanding his abilities with his spirit sword (controlled long ranged attacks, multi-sword fighting, etc) in the Dark Tournament arc (witch is the ABDOLUTE peak of the show, and one of the all-time greatest anime experiences). It just seemed like after the Dark Tournament no one *really* changed. There were very few new abilities or traits shown by the main four characters, Genkai was just kinda there, and I never quite understood why it wasn't until THE VERY END of the series that Yusuke had limited ammo for his spirit gun (like, he became MULTIPLE times more powerful during his fight with Sensui, but he still can't shoot more that 5/6 spirit gun blasts? Toguro could shoot an "infinite" amount of rounds and is now left in the dust in terms of power output. But I digress). In short, I appreciate the show quite a bit for it's (ironically) classic 90's vibes and timelessness, and I just wish they'd gone just a bit deeper with character development past the Dark Tournament. It's an absolute treasure and treat to watch, and deserves every bit of praise and even more recognition for everything it offers.
so are we not gonna talk about the BIGGEST difference in the manga and anime in the fact that Lord Yama is found out to be the secret antagonist that had been orchestrating everything bad between the 3 worlds. mans literally led sensui to the black tape, released hella demons and in the anime they just kinda skip by it by having Jr. talk about how he suspects his father in the final arc in a bypassing conversation before the tourny. really feel like that concept is the one that shonen jump wasnt feeling hence why togashi said f em

I do prefer the manga a slight bit more than the anime in my books. But both are just so good
I wanted to see and read this show since many years and finally managed to do so last year. It was as good as I expected, though of course it did age somehow but that was to be expected.
YYH fan? Based
I was 8 or 7 when this came out in my country. The good old 90s
#1 favorite anime/manga
Kuwabara is best boi! I can only strive to be as much of a gentleman as he is.
I love the show but I love the manga even more! The first volume in my opinion is the best. It is full of heart and story. Completely different from normal Shone Jump mangas. The story with the old man and the tanuki makes me cry every time.
The good thing with this was it didn't over stayed their welcome..
Going back to the beginnings I see
05:12 i can tell how much inspiration Shaman King took from the first Yu Yu Hakusho pages !!
Congratulations 🎊
I'd love to read the manga. I wish they'd make some oversized volumes of the whole series.
I acknowledge and mostly agree with everything you said about the last arc in the manga, but Hiei bringing Mukuro her rapist is amazing.
Great review!
I call this the THREE'O CLOCK HIGH of anime and i like it and also THREE'O CLOCK HIGH it's a film from 1987 you should check it out it's just like Yu Yu Hakusho but without the ghost stuff you will like it it had a fight at the end good movie.
My absolute favorite
OMG THANK YOU
This is one of the rare series where I enjoyed the adaptation more than the original! Not that I don’t love the manga, especially the the first bits that we don’t get in the anime, and anything exploring chapter black is some of my favorite fiction ever.
I popped off so hard when I saw this in my recommended!!!
👊
You need to read Level E, it's Togashi's finest work, and give it a review
No lie...The Dark Tournament is greatest Tournament saga of all time! The Tournament of Power should take notes!
It's number 1 I don't care, Toguro against Yusuke I haven't seen that in another tournament arc, since the beginning you vibrate with this arc.
Yu Yu Hakusho my first love of anime next to maybe dragon ball z
Yu Yu Hakusho is also one of the only animes where I prefer the English voice acting over sub
Half way through the series in Netflix, this is a quality shonen, my 2nd favourite after dr stone.
I just want to explore the dark continent.
ah, i wish you would say all the differences, like certain lines said by people that weren't said in the anime, good video tho!!
I would love to hear more about the manga.
The ending in the anime was just
You’re just in time for the Netflix adaptation coming out in December! *hugs Kurama plushie in the corner* Trying to be optimistic okay??
I love his art tbh
I get how taxing is to be a Manga author, this manga still pisses me off with its final arc. I can't drop a hot potatoe as fast as this manga was.
Just finish the manga for the first time a month ago
This series is my second favorite anime so good ❤️🔥
yup, YYH was on AS uncut before toonami!!!!!
At 3:30 marks I initially thought it was Raizen, no way he punched his ancestral father like that lol
I actually prefer the manga over the anime simply for it's portrayal of certain characters, kuwabara for example.
The good old days of peak Toonami
Wasn't Yusuke 13 when he got hit by a car? Either way, love this series! Still do! I was 22 when this sucker came to the states and I'm glad it had such an impact! Also I love Kuwabara too! I wasn't expecting it either!
He's 14 from the start. The series pretty much made it clear
@@mr.hazamayukiterumi2909 yeah I haven't seen the series in 16 years so memory gets fuzzy dude.
@RealLifeRyan would you be down to do a Manga Analysis on One Punch man I think I would be Interesting.
Also I wish Manga writer's would pass there work on to other people like Berserk hunter hunter
What is the name of the song from yu yu hakusho at the beginning of the video?
Love yu yu...
Shame that due to the constant influx of shiny new series, hardly anyone goes back to enjoy classics like YYH.
Yu Yu Hakusho and GTO have similar vibes minus the supernatural
Never skip lag day? Never skip shoulder day
I gotta read it and see how different it is from the dub
so are we not gonna talk about the BIGGEST difference in the manga and anime in the fact that Lord Yama is found out to be the secret antagonist that had been orchestrating everything bad between the 3 worlds. mans literally led sensui to the black tape, released hella demons and in the anime they just kinda skip by it by having Jr. talk about how he suspects his father in the final arc in a bypassing conversation before the tourny. really feel like that concept is the one that shonen jump wasnt feeling hence why togashi said f em
One of the few anime where the dub is superior to the sub
Thought the thumbnail was The Money Store for a second
Hei talks ALOT of shit and I love it.
He's always got SOMETHING to say that makes me laugh out loud.
Have you started fist of the north star?
