Hi Mate, I have the same on my 5 Series and when I put the top cap on it makes the turning of the knob quite tight did yours also?
Mine turns smoothly. Before I put the cap on, I did have to push down a bit to ensure clearance between the two pieces.
Mine also is quite difficult to move with the top cap on. Anyone figure out the solution?
Maybe I misunderstood the question when @ManyMotards asked. Is it the top cap of the new knob only or do you still have the old one on too?
@@EuroAutoEnthusiast so the stock smaller plastic looking dial turns very small with absolutely no resistance. I then took off the black top with the 4 white arrows and then removed the silver circular housing off the stock dial. I think installed the larger knob from eBay and it moved very smoothly. I then have to install the top portion where the arrows are from the eBay knob but as soon as I install that part the dial becomes harder to rotate and there is resistance
@@Automaz_ I rewatched the video just to revisit the steps. Without having a hands-on assessment of it, either there’s not enough clearance and the bottom ring needs to be firmly pressed down a bit more, providing clearance for the top piece, or there’s an issue with the top piece sitting too snug.
Is it stiffer? Because I ordered one installed it and as soon as I install the top part its stiffer to scroll the knob is it normal? Is there something I'm not doing correctly?
If it’s snug, it pushed down too far…pull the base up a bit. It should rotate freely and you’ll be good after that 👍🏽
@@EuroAutoEnthusiast thanks I will try that although the bottom part rotates freely without the top it's only when I put the top cover that it becomes stiff

Do you have to code it for the touchpad writing
I wasn’t aware of touch pad writing or if mine was equipped with it when I owned it; plus I doubt this knob has that capability…all plastic, no sensors 🤷🏽♂️
It only works for bmw, it couldn’t work for Volkswagen
