I remember this when I was a young Teen and it's been one of my favorites ever since. That VOICE! Between Tony and Yvette, just plain PERFECTION! I usually just use double stops cause I'm thinking the rest of the fill is mostly the Keys and Bass and maybe some double tracking by Tony again, cause live didn't ever sound as complete with only Tony on one guitar. Hard to tell what the mix is when it's all blended so well! Thanks for showcasing this MASTERPIECE. Doesn't get much better than this from the days when music was REAL!
I hear you! I wonder if we'll EVER get back to the days of real music and artists. I mean, we have some really good artists now, but I have to really dig around to find them.
Sorry, really good, helped me figure out the chords EXCEPT at 1:40 when you are playing A maj7, but the chord chart on the screen shows A# maj 7. As I was playing my fretless bass along with this, my brain got hurt. Figured it out, but yikes.
Very nice lesson Maestro. This is one of my all time favorite rythm licks to play. I don't know if Tony Maiden played it in the studio, but I saw him play it live back in the 70's, and became an intant Tony fan ever since. Keep those great videos coming.. !
@BrianCarrekerGuitar Tony was the longtime guitar guy for Rufus and Chaka Khan. He also shared lead vocals occasionally. One of my favorite R&B rythm players.
Good job you simplified it very well
Such sweet chords 👍
Thank you for simply breaking down this beautiful rhythm for us.
Sure thing! I’m happy to do it.

I’m happy to help. Seriously thanks so much for your donation!
Great touch man!
Great job, sounds terrific. Blessings to you and yours.
Great video, subscribed! So hey, at 1:41, I think the graph shows 6th fret but you’re playing the 5th, no?
Thanks for catching that. Yes it's A major 7, so the root is on the 5th fret.
