Some people should NOT make how-to videos. This is one of those people. Do NOT use Vaseline on pool pump parts, do NOT use ANY lube on ceramic seal (don't even touch with bare hands), do NOT use electrical tape to wrap broken conduit, do NOT use concrete as a tool hammer (ha!)

Very helpful for correct seal orientation. New motors and seals come with zero instruction for correct installation. Thanks, take care!

vaseline should not be used on rubber seals, better to use silicone grease.

That howling your hear is probably the bearings. I replace mine about 3 years. You probably didn’t need a motor. Been there, done that.
Only use water based lubricant (think K-Y Jelly) to lube the rubber seals. Don’t use Vaseline or silicone based lubricants.

The video was a good video for explanation of seal orientation, but in reality when I remove the seal I would do a dry run test on the motor alone to see if the bearings were bad in the first place before reassembling the impeller weir plate and impeller etc

A worn seal would leak from the tank body assembly. motors burn up fast when depleted of water, empty your baskets daily. When not in use, turn the pumps off completely.
Never use Vaseline, its bad for pump seals, your local pool store will have to right lubricate (cheap). I have rebuilt many pool pumps and most are damage because lack of water supply. Imagine driving a car with no oil, how long would it last.

Don't use vasoline, use majic lube, you don't use vasoline on any pool equipment it is a petro base lube and will wear out all the rubber seals. majic lube is silicone base lube.

Thanks for the informative video despite the nitpickers, lol, yes maybe you shouldn't use vaseline on the seals or used a piece of concrete as a hammer but non the less good video! And I'm sorry that you had to replace the motor instead of a simple fix.
    I hate when that happens!

Thanks for watching. Motor went bad because rain got in the bearing. I bought a motor cover and new motor should last a lot longer. Motor is still running quiet despite using Vaseline. Rocks were the first hammers.

I just bought a motor and gasket rebuild from A.O Smith A wisperflo. Not one instruction as to installation of the gaskets. The seal installation is vary important . after disassembly I found over the years some gaskets or remainder of gaskets were not there. So if You buy from A.O. Smith don't expect much in the way of help, They do have videos but the motors were different from the one I bought . How much could it cost to put a piece of paper with the best way to repair this seal and gasket kit?

But if they did that you wouldn't buy a new pump...

short the capacitor first and no shock. use some pentetrating oil on all the screws and let sit a day before trying to remove them.

Did you ever try dipping it in butter when Vaseline isn't available?

Vaseline is not a good idea for this job, we need something that won't damage the robber parts.

Bad bearings. I can't imagine a bad seal sounding like that.

Big downvote for using vasoline on the seal. That’s bad juju.

I keep damaging the carbon part of the shaft seal. How do I install without damage?

I put Vaseline on the part and then tap it in using the blunt end of a socket (for a socket wrench) to make sure the seal sits flat in the hole. Also I make a sketch of the assembly when I take it apart so I know which end goes in the hole.

Use P-80 seal lube to allow it to slide in easily.

P80 was on a recommendation chart many years ago as the preferred seal installation lubricant. It is the best
