- It was a thriving part of downtown Pittsburgh. But not everyone knows the history of this tiny Chinese immigrant community - once located between Grant and Ross Streets. The 1920s ushered in the beginning of its disappearance - largely because of the construction of a major roadway, the Boulevard of the Allies. Today, the popular Chinatown Inn restaurant is the only significant remnant of a bygone era. WQED traces the history of Pittsburgh’s Chinatown and recounts how a new generation of Asian Americans is remembering this landmark site.

Pittsburgh is great. I’m from Philadelphia so I view Pittsburgh as like the brother on the other side of the state
Such an important part of Pittsburgh's history! This is a wonderful video.
I've had lunch at the Chinatown Inn. It's hard to believe that an entire community existed in that small area off of Ross Street.
Former owner was a major narcotics trafficker with italian mob connections.....th-cam.com/video/VmRoyE1gJ3o/w-d-xo.html
Excellent presentation. Would love to see more about the Chinatown neighborhood.
The gang wars played a significant part...
Used to eat at Chinatown Inn many times as a kid in the early 70s! Remember Roy was always our waiter such a nice guy! I remember alot of Chinese in Pittsburgh in the 70s. Also remember a little Chinese market across the parking lot great memories!
Best of luck. I hope it remains strong. There used to be a Chinatown in Detroit. It’s long gone now, having been ravaged by crime. Most folks never knew it existed. That was a long time ago. There are other cities that have lost their International district/Chinatown. So sad. I fear that here in Seattle we are going to lose ours. Best of luck to you. Stay strong.
Nice documentary!
Glad you enjoyed it, Nick! Thank you!
