Top work lad. Id suggest for the bigger fish using a glove for when you grab the line, if the bigger one thrashes around it could damage your hand with the line! I learnt that the hard way. Take the weight off ASAP too, and slacken the drag! Tight lines
Shaking mate 😂 thats the adrenaline. I have always lifted my Tope by the tail and dorsil fin together... if it's tired. Now i just unhook at the side of the boat. Tope are hit and run masters. They will move in on your bait and pick it up, then run. Watch the knock, wait for the run, it will stop to chomp. This is when to set the hook. Happy fishing and thanks for the great videos.
Hi There Slippy Limpets. I am so glad you now have a boat!!! This Tope video is brilliant as are all of your vids!! You don't seem to be doing to bad as still catch plenty of fish regardless of your so called boating inexperience. Keep it up mate you are doing just fine. Only advice maybe is seen as though you do not do a dubby bag try fishing the bait live with no weight. Lots of fun with light tackle. Can go super light as long the trace is thick and strong. Length of the rod and that's it. Fun to watch mate. John Fish Locker is the Don Juan of fishing on you tube and very regimented.... Next best for me mate and is truly refreshing to hear you ask advice from other fellow fisherman. Look forward to more boating videos!! 😊
You can't stop a boat swinging, it's just part of the game tbh. Just learn to manage it. I'd definitely get a couple rod holders for the sides such as scotty orcas. If you have grab handles on the rear of the cuddy roof they can double up as brilliant rod holders too. For tope fishing, it's better to go up to 200-250lb mono. Great to see you get into the fish
A great watch Nathan and a good start to your Tope fishing journey. In at the deep end! Best way to learn mate. Love the new boat Tight lines Skipper 👍

Hi Good fishing mate. Good size bullhus & tope. When ever I've gone deep sea boat fishing I've always use a mackerel flapper & cut the back bone out just leaving the head guts & 2 fillets it stops it from spinning in the water & when you catch small Whiting out them on a size 8 or 10 / 0 hook slash the sides of the Whiting & send it on down for a conger... I'm Al happy fishing

Great video mate really enjoyed this 1. Would love to see how you launch and retrieve ya boat. I'm looking into getting my self a boat as well so be interesting to see how you do it. All the best mate tight lines 🎣🎣
Back in the day I used an old Abu 5000 and a salmon rod (same setup I used for salmon and pike) for tope in Loch Ryan. Float fishing mackerel fillet on a pair of 6/0 hooks, or 'freelining' with a lead far too light to hold bottom would often work. Some crazy runs on that setup 😊 That was a nice huss, and an optimistic attempt with the net on that first tope 😊 You've got to be pleased with that session.
Could you attach a cylindrical rod holder onto the side of the boat more horizon to keep the like awkward for the engines, I know in the states they use those outriggers but that's for trolling from big game the method I mentioned comes from watching an old guy bass fishing sustainable as he sold em legitimate as line caught and all he did was trolling lines of old mop handles resting in the rowlocks on his little 15ft boat, really impressed at his technique.
Sounds good, love stories like that. Makes me question why we spend ££££ on tackle! I think I'm going to attach a couple of rod holders to the ski pole in front of the motor and probably a couple of the bulk head the ski pole comes through, that should give me enough room over the motor.

unfortunately mate the swaying of the boat just depends on the tide flow and wind direction, especially when the tide is changing direction the boat can sway allot.
You will never keep any boat steady on a single anchor, really you need 4 on what is called a moor, impossible alone but possible with 2 of you. However as the tide changes this can also be a hindrance, ditto if needing to get away quick, it is generally more trouble than the effort. Commercial vessels have self tensioning winches to stay in position, but out of the question for you, you can try a stern anchor but I find they always foul with the motors. So I'd stick with what you have and put up with the movement my boy, nice tope but I think you'll eventually tire of the West Coast with all the dogfish. By the way you definitely need a good multiplier for boat fishing baits, fixed spool no good for heavy fish in deep water. Now you've got the boat why not do some trolling??
I struggle with let alone four so I think you're right, I'm just going to have to grin and bear the swinging. I do have a couple of multipliers just never strap them on because they seem like an overkill for most of the fish in the UK, especially after pulling in those blue sharks on a 4000 FS and my spinning rod. A skate might be a step too far though. I've done a wee bit of trolling on the yak and it does work, but I get bored being that inactive
