Great work Chris ! Bearings in the oven, axles in the deep freeze... get all the ducks in a row and then the pipe slide hammer sends them home ! Great days brother !
Hey thanks Bubba! That to exactly how I use to rebuild motorcycles motors Works really good. Thanks for watching I appreciate it. Have a great night brother👍👍👍
Hey Vlad it was the first time for me. They did come off Pretty easy with the cutting wheel. Hopefully this will help some other guys out to. Thanks for watching Have a good week man👍👍👍
Hey Chris, It's good that you shared this video with us. A lot of guys have no idea on how to remove axle bearings, but now they do. To install the new ones just heat them up in a oven and as you said use your old races to tap them on. Get yourself a long (say 3 foot) pipe to go past the end of the axle and tap them on. I also grind the inside of the old race a little larger so it slides a little easier. They will slide on with no problem. Later buddy.
Hey Marvin hopefully it will help some guys out like you say that's why I showed it. I use to rebuild a lot of motorcycles motors years ago and that is exactly the way I would do it. Put my bearing in the oven and freeze the crank and the bearing would just about fall on lol. Have a good one brother👍👍👍
Hey Andy yes it was Don t want to hit that axle lol. Those did come off Pretty easy. Thanks for checking it out much appreciated. Take it easy brother👍👍👍
Hey Chris. I hate when blots break. Just more work. Good job with the slide hammer. It saves a lot of pounding from behind. Nice job. Thanks for sharing.🍁🤘🤘
Hey thanks Andy. Atlest those blots broke off in the old wheels cylinder Got new ones for it now. Yeah the slide hammer mad it pretty easy to get out. Thanks for stopping in brother have a great night👍👍👍
Thanks a lot Ben! That will be as fancy as it gets lol 😁. Thanks for always follow along with the build of the ole girl. Have a good one Appreciate you brother👍👍👍
Awesome video man. I noticed you were super conscious of where the camera was. Didn't want us to miss a second. I really appreciate that. And yeah the ol sling shot ammo got a good laugh outa natalie and myself haha. Right on man. Great video!
Hey thanks Dave. Yeah wanted to make sure you guys could see 😃lol. Oh man those bearing rip to in a slingshot haha not that I would know or anything lol. Glad I got a laugh out of you guys that's what I was hoping for. Have a great night guys👍👍👍
Very cool video Chris. You went and got fancy on us with the tripod for the camera 😀. Made for a lot of good contests for your video. Also I like the way you took bearing’s off. Make do with what you have. Awesome stuff enjoy your week. 👍😎✌️
Hey Mike thanks. I would lol if I could have found the right puller. They must make one for pulling those bearing. But those cut off wheels are probably a lot cheaper lol Worked pretty good Have a good one brother Thanks for the comment👍👍👍
I used to work in a plant that had 2 indutrial freezers that could go to -100°F. I watched a guy put sleeves in a tractor block. He would pull a sleeve out of the freezer and push it into the block using hand pressure with a couple of shop towels to keep his hands from touching the cold metal. The freezers were normally used to process induction heat treated automotive components after hardening to stabilize the steel for further processing.
Hey Mike now the a cold freezer wow. I bet it worked good for do that. I use to rebuild motorcycles motors And I would heat the bearing up and freeze the crank shaft and those bearing would just about fall on works good doing that. My buddy has a bigger press then I do so going to his shop to get them on. Have a good one brother👍👍👍
Hey brother good job on your removal. I just got back in town from a hunting trip and look forward to more progress on the old 55. Have a good week my friend👍
Cool video Chris. Nice work. Got a spot for ya in the millwrights Union! Maybe consider pre heating bearings for install. They have a slight interference fit. Heat makes it slide. Have great week brother ✌
Hey thanks a lot. Man that would be better then working out side for a living lol. When I use to rebuild motorcycle motors That is what I would do heat the bearing up in the oven and freeze the crank and the bearing would just about fall on😁 But the new bearing I got have a plastic dust cover so don't want to heat them to hot or it will melt it lol. Oh yea I all ready got the new bearing on those axles anyway lol went good😁. Have a good one 👍👍👍
Badass video Chris! That is a great hands on way to get off the bearings. You got a steady hand man your thumb was super close to the hammer and cut off wheel. I laughed when you said some ball bearing for you kids slingshot. Lol Have a good one man👍 oh also man I really like the longer video's!
Hey Don thanks a lot man. I had plenty of room from my thumb atlest a inch or so lol I guess that from banging nails all day at work. That was one of my longest videos not sure if guys would want to watch one that long. Glad you like it oh yeah those bearing would rip in a slingshot to lol just ask me how I know😁. Have a good one man I got to get over and watch you video to. 👍👍👍
Hey brother chris, I remember doing exactly what you just went through, also remember that guy who sold me another 9 inch that he said had a posi 3:73 and it ended up being an open 3:55 that punk, well I saved them axles and sold the housing, maybe someday I'll have another bigblock and a ford 9 to disturb the peace again ✌ take care and Aloha
Hey brother Sonny! Yeah They come off Pretty easy That way. Man what a punk that guy was I think I would have been going to see him again😁. Atlest you got extra axles for yours. Don't worry that old chevy you got now I'm sure you will disturb the peace with it lol. Thanks for stopping by brother. You know your sill are a big block kings member😁 your in for life now lol. Hey thanks Brian. That's right brother no fancy tools needed lol just a old cutoff wheel. They did come off Pretty easy to. Thanks for watching Take care brother👍👍👍

Thanks Eddie appreciate that. That ole hotrod truck was a lot of work lol. She did come out pretty cool. Thanks for checking it out man. Hope you shop is going good take it easy👍👍👍
Yeah years back had a shop press new bearings on those long axles. Always wondered what they used to get down in there and press them off with that cover in the way. Also a trick to remove axles without a puller is to lug nut bolt the drum on backwards & with heavy rubber mallet or rawhide mallet smack it off . Yeah I pulled all my rearend out back in 2012 sandblasted and painted it when I was more agile glad I did it then back problems now suck,LOLL. I remember not sure but both axles are different lenghts I think the short one is the passenger side its been almost ten years since I did mine. Keep it Flowing doing great Chris!!
Hey thanks Glenn. That is another great way to pull a axle with the brake drum. I did finally realize that one axle is longer lol I guess I have both😁. They must make some kind of puller for those bearing That doesn't mess up the bearing cup. They did come out pretty easy got lucky. Have a good one my friend👍👍👍
@@IronheadGarage Hey cutting them off is a quick way you got them off in no time. I do that all the time when bearings are stubborn on my outboards. Have a good one Winters coming stay warm,LOLL!

There is a working class solution for almost everything! If you have one for taxes let me know. I have probably asked before but what gears are you going to run. Good job!
Hey brother yes there is lol. But I don't have one for taxes wish I did. The posi I have for it has 308s it will be good for the highway. She mostly just will be a driver. I'll take it to the track sometimes but can't be to hard on her can't afford to be braking stuff lol. One day I'm hoping to find a old 57 Pontiac rearend like the guys use back in the 60s. There is still some out there just need to find one for a good deal. Have a great night brother👍👍👍
