- Today's video is a care and breeding guide on the Cuban cichlid (Nandopsis tetracanthus). Cuban cichlids are incredible Central American cichlids from Cuba, with amazing coloration and patterns. Like other Nandopsis species, they are aggressive, so it is important to understand a few key care requirements when setting up a Cuban cichlid tank.
Cuban cichlids are closely related to the Black Nasty cichlids. Both cichlids species are very aggressive, but has stunning silver, white, and black coloration. Even if you keep them solo, it is well worth it in my opinion, as the Cuban cichlid is one of the most underrated cichlids.

That is a beautiful fish.
This is the first time i saw an cuban cichlid, its more closer to jaguar, just my opinion, amazingly beautiful fish, thanks to cichlid bro correspondent the handsome troy.
Great video Troy nice looking cichlid how’s the plywood tank coming along can’t wait to see it all finished and with fish in it can’t wait for the next video 👍
A great looking cichlid Troy. I kept them 15yrs ago and was able to obtain an F1 pair. They had a beautiful hue of blue on their dorsal fins. A great fish to observe and watch them grow. I was fortunate that mine were pretty mellow compared to the Haitiensis.
Nice video, after big problems (skin ilnesses of my fishes couldn't cure) in my aquarium I could relax listening to and watching this calm relaxing and interesting video.
Troy, this was really neat. I never noticed these beauties before. All the great information was interesting. I like their spunk. lol Love and Peace.
Thanks, Sandy!
Good looking fish...
Love this fish brother! Wills is getting really big and beautiful, great information!
Awesome man! They’re some stunning fish!
Beautiful!🩷
Beautiful fish. But way way to aggressive for me. IMO. Thanks for sharing
This fish is on my bucket list. Need at least 200 gallons to keep it beautifully
I’d recommend! And although bigger tank size is always better, I don’t think 200 gallons is required to keep them.
@@CichlidBros i understand but a tank full of centrals will do gr8 in that size
@@yashbhoir2087 yeah def need larger if tank mates are involved
@yashbhoir2087 when I kept one in a 90g I tried tankmates. Most I only left in while it was a Juvie. Around 3" I removed everything but a dempsey and a pleco. From there I planned to take the dempsey out soon since it was an older passive one around 8". So I figured I had some time. I didn't. The Cuban took him out about 2 days later. A 3" Cuban cichlid killed an 8" dempsey in a 90 gallon tank. Although it left the pleco alone for months although the pleco was fairly large. Overall it was a great fish but definitely go huge to keep tankmates
@@zafishguy5166 definitely . They show real behvaiour in larger tanks
Quick question, what camera do you use for filming? Looking forward to the plywood aquarium!
What's going on with plywood aquarium? I can't wait to see fishes in there and whole look of this big tank.
It’s running smoothly. Video will be in the next week or so
One of the mush aggressive fish ever
Mush fish are the worst lol
Plywood update when? :)
Coming soon! Probably next week
Very beautiful yet aggressive. Had a female beat up my jack dempsey in a 125 gallon. The females are unbelievable though with color when in breeding mode.
I keep my male solo now as he destroyed and killed a female he paired with for 4 months.
You'll know if a female because shell have thick dark black vertical strips and possible black under the body.
How deep was your pond when you did the winter video three years ago please
About 4 feet
We all waiting to see what’s up with the plywood tank hurry up and I’d it so we can see how it turned out
Not gonna rush the process. It will come soon though.
Cubans are beautiful but from my experience very aggressive. Just below the top bruisers like Amphilophus species, Buttikoferi, RTM’s, Istlanum, Dovii etc but are more aggressive than JD’s, Texas cichlids, Gold Saum’s etc.
Yep I would agreed with all of that
They are not from Central America but the Caribbean.
Such a waste of a comment 🤦🏻♂️
Communist Chiclids. I love it😂
