- Ok, we're back on the layout in this video, and a few jobs are shown:
1. magnets are installed and trains run to test them.
2. electrics are hidden and glued down.
3. the landscape is carved out of foam using a mixture of tools.
find me on instagram at gwilliamsonmode...

Hi George, I absolutely love watching your videos very much. Particularly at the moment as I have unfortunately found myself in hospital for a fair while due to a rather nasty illness and I can honestly say that your videos have really helped me get through this difficult period, I’ve been binge watching them one after the other and whilst I am watching them I virtually forget about everything else. I love your meticulous approach and attention to detail, I love how patient you are, I really do love your cat (especially when she’s being a fluffy nuisance!) I love your sense of humour because it’s totally the same as mine and I just love the models you produce because they really are top notch. I think you actually ‘see’ nature the way it really is, all of its gritty perfection, the dirt, the grime, the slime and everything else. I see a lot of wonderful layouts but my critical eye can’t help but see things that simply wouldn’t be like that in the real world, dry stone walls that look like they were built yesterday and freshly whitewashed, whereas in reality they would be a multitude of colours, covered in moss and algae, stones missing etc. I’m not knocking other peoples work, it’s just not for me sometimes, whereas your layouts, well now that’s right up my street. So thank you for being great medicine and therapy for me during my recovery process, I’m thinking that perhaps your videos should be on prescription from the NHS, they’ve certainly been a huge help to me. Keep up the great work my friend, I’m looking forward very much to all of your future projects.
All the very best
Howard.
Hi Howard, I’m sorry to hear about your stay in hospital, I hope you recover soon.
It’s lovely to hear that my videos are helping though, taking your mind off things is a really important thing in times like this.
I agree though, people seem to ignore the dirt of the real world, but it’s one of the things I enjoy modelling the most!
All the best with your recovery
Looking forward to seeing this layout come together piece by piece 😊
I hope you enjoy the series
@@GWilliamsonModels definitely! 😊
Looking good.
We can see the sizing now and how small the train is. Plus that very nice runaround loop, which doesn't look like all other OO9 loops.
What did you do with the broken point? I was expecting it to appear on ebay - like the brake van. It could appeal to someone who doesn't model OO9 ( or is it 009 ) but who wants a souvenir.
Thankyou, yes that’s the beauty of copying the prototype, it shows realism in the model, and I love that you can see that in the loop.
I generally don’t know where the point is, I probably threw it across the room! If I find it, I’ll list it as a Nant Gwernol fund raiser 😂
For your background, take several photos and have a printer stitch them together into a panographic print. A vinyl backing is preferred. Rick of SoCal Scale Models did this for his railroad. You might want to look up the video he did a couple of weeks ago.
Yes I think I might do that, my local craft shop prints panoramics to a good quality. The only question is how will I be able to take the actual photos with so many trees around the location
Do you have a drone?
@@user-sv4pj5jl8n yes, I guess that would be the best option
If you are short of depth for trees, perhapes you could try photographed trees printed on to acetate mounted forward of your back scene then have half relief trees positioned in front of them. Then full trees in front of them?
Yes I think doing my own is going to be the way. The issue is I need to now wait until autumn to do it!
A possibility might be identifying the species of trees and finding printable silhouettes. From these you might be able to make a photoshop start?
With regard to trees on backscene...or any other low relief structure...cut as thin a slice as you can ...what you are aiming for is no chance of shadows in the paper. Trust me...shadows on the sky kill the effect !!! Then as you go lower increase the density of trees so you can then easily disguise the join between 3d and 2d as we normally do
Agreed, shadows on the back scene as rubbish. Due to being forestry on this one, it’s really something I need to try and be aware of. I guess even the positioning of the lighting would affect it.
I think the back of the layout won’t be that big of an issue, as trees towards the foreground should block a lot of it
Hi, For several years I used to build and fly radio control model aircraft which involved cutting foam wing blanks which were then given a skin of obechi veneer. Wings must be built accurately or the model will not fly well if at all! The method of cutting the wing core can be used for forming embankments, cuttings and so forth. A wooden former of the item is placed at each end of the foam block. Use nails through the former and into the foam. You will need a cutting wire and frame the length of the foam block, check in the model aircraft magazines (flying models, not plastic Airfix types!) look for foam wing cutters. There may be on here a video on cutting out foam wings. That little one you have is really only for trimming. It very difficult to hot wire cut foam free hand with any accuracy.
Very interesting, yes I’ll look into that, out of curiosity if nothing else! Thanks
Enjoying the series, as always. Thanks.
Need photo realism in the backsceen? Use a big photo?
Yes I think I might look into printing my own for this one
0:12 bro looks like Smudger
Smudgers based on Dolgoch, which is why he looks like it
@@GWilliamsonModels when is saw the paint job Smudger came to mind
Wait, you bought a product from Temu?! You know that evidence has shown they sell their customer’s infomation?
From what I understand, only as much as any other online company
