i was playing with this vow and i think the duo is not guaranteed even if you clear out every other one of the boons. In one room Hestia had no more boons to offer and just gave me some money, but in the next encounter she offered me a duo boon
I can confirm Volcanic Strike CD: I had heroic Volcanic Strike +4, 3 other pommable boons, still some rerolls and on the next pom i could upgrade those 3 other boons. The re-offer option was not available.
You should give Master Conductor a try. I had a run with sister blades with zeus attack and static shock, plus the duo. The chain lightning keeps bouncing between you and the enemy and really racks up the damage. It also procs blitz pretty much instantly.
I'd really like to know how the math checks out on hepheatus boons vs other attack and special boons. At common tier the damage per cool down for hepheatus boons seems awful
at common level, it's near useless. the special one is even worse, at level one it's like every 20 seconds 💀 even at heroic level the special one is bad without a TON of poms
Its a shame in his current state he is just as undesirable as he is in actual mythology. Worst attack, special, arguably cast, and mana recovery. He himself definitely needs some more time in the forge, I bet over time he' will get a lot better
i think they could make hephaestus blasts more interesting if they scaled off weapon damage somehow, so slower and stronger weapons would benefit more than faster and weaker ones. i don't know how they would pick which hit of a combo to use or how they'd succinctly communicate that to the player, though. but it feels in line with his flavor (he has dialogue complimenting the axe where he's disparaging with the staff for example) and as a balance against boons like hestia that work much better with faster weapons and are kind of useless on slow ones.
Feel like a crit build with Thanatos + White antler focusing on high rarity, highpommed Vent could do huge chunks all at once. Your common level 1 Vent did 488 damage with a crit that run, finishing Chronos.
I guess the one thing about Heph that might be too strong is that his boons continue to scale really well past the first couple of poms, all the way until you meet the cap. For the other gods, the scaling tapers off more. Maybe that's what they were talking about in that interview?
I've already done this build twice coz i love hephie and his secondary/support boons, and both times i did it on the torches actually (aspect doesnt really matter tbh) because while their attacks do fire fast, it is, as a move, quite irredeemably bad so this build uplifts the torch attack into something quite respectably strong. Like for all other attacks you could go "oh perhaps aphro/apollo/poseidon might be better here" but for the torches, hephie is definitely the best in slot for attack.

If you're built around the attack you really don't want to interrupt the omega attack when it takes so long to build to, and the Moros blast with regular attacks is still quite unimpressive (a multiplier on a low number tends to just be a lower number
There's a boon that from icarus that makes your omega attacks cause an explosion. Combining that with axe omega attack there would be like 20 explosions per omega attack. Felt very OP
Honestly, I think that they've drastically reduced the likelihood of duo boons past the first unless you have the arcana active that enhances the likelihood of duo boons showing up.
They didn’t reduce the chance of duos, it’s still 12% base IIRC, but they did separate duo chance from legendary chance (which’s now 10% base, but Hermes is still 1%). Duos are considered a lower rarity compared to legendaries, so a legendary boon can be offered in place of a duo. It’s two rolls, though, so ignoring priority boons and rarity modifiers it’s easier to get either compared to one. What makes it more difficult is that rarity modifiers don’t seem to increase both chance of duos and legendaries. Miniboss rooms have increased chances of legendaries, but not duos. Yarn also doesn’t affect the chances of getting a duo, but it does increase the chances of legendaries. Queen increases duo chance, but not legendary chance, and I’m not sure which one Favor from Chaos does, but I think it’s legendaries.
I really feel like if you picked an attack boon first chamber and are offered a hammer second chamber, the hammer shouldn’t give all 3 on the special. that’s just super frustrating and also easy to change in a future update

The axe works real well with this build. One swing that hits multiple enemies and still applies the burst per swing.The slow swinging lines up great with the cling clang
I managed to get this on a super early run of mine when I basically just unlocked the twin blades. I swapped from poseidon attack to aphro attack then finally to heph attack for heroic. It was a wild run, sadly I wasn't good enough to finish it though.
36:39 I think that might be what they meant that they were worried about Hephaestus boons. I don’t really take his attack and special boons because the damage falls off against the last couple bosses. Even with a Heroic attack boon capped all the way down to 2 seconds it’s still a hard fight. Whereas a Heroic Aphro attack boon would just be better for average dps.
I found myself taking Hephy's boon quite often, because I really like Static Shock build and have been trying it with all weapon aspects. But Hephy's boons themselves are somewhat underwhelming I think, unless you high roll rarity on them and pom a little more since they don't scale with your weapon/hammer.
I think it would be interesting for many gods but especially for heph if his boon for the attack and the boon for the special were different. This build it worked but normally the extra 200 damage every 12 seconds on the attack is not great. However occasionally throwing out a special knife for 400 damage burst is good.
IT HAS TO BE THE TRIALS. Hephy got displeased in the trials and now he can't offer duos. You could only get duo's from the non-heph god. Exact same thing happened in that other run where you basically went through every boon and then got the duo from the other god. And earlier on you had also made that god grow displeased. Nothing else makes sense i don't think.
i played a game with heph, hestia, and demeter in my god pool. afterwards, i saw echo and she gave me a boon from my previous run (which was apollo's Super Nova) and the next time i saw apollo, he gave me the heph/apollo duo boon
32:47 Why don’t you do trials to shrink the pool. Even if you can’t get the duo in trials isn’t getting two boons just better? If you were doing a speed run it would make sense but there wasn’t really a good reason not to take it. Idk maybe I’m being dumb.
In hindsight we can say that I should have done the trial but at the end of the day we just got bad luck. It certainly wasn't the most important part of the build lol.
Getting below 2 seconds on the hephy blast for the main weapon attack is impossible, I got a lvl 7 heroic hephy thing (because of Hera sacrifice boon+ lvl 5 epic attack boon already) and the cool-down was never below 2
Heph seems like one of the worst "primary" gods to base a build on. Even though Hael got the complete nuts on this build it felt weaker than most mid tier posideon/aphro/appollo builds. The CD of his blast either needs to be lower or the damage needs to go much higher (maybe stacking up?) 200 damage every 2-6 seconds is just pathetic compared to other comperable attack boons.
I said it in another one of your vids but even for these lower fear runs you should be running the vow that deletes unchosen boons. It makes it WAY easier to force duos and legendaries. It honestly feels like cheating.
If there is a glitch, maybe it isn't with the codex requirements. Maybe you can't have both Hephy/Hestia duo and Hephy/Apollo? That wouldn't make sense, but apparently the requirements are right and Super Nova is one of the boons that can be used. Assuming you didn't just get super unlucky.
I don't think Hephaestus is broken but he makes the game way easier for low-medium skill players. Just throw him on either your attack or special and the get Furnace Blast. Then just throw that out every now and then and get 1000 damage from 1 hit. You're not breaking any speed run records but you take huge chunks out of bosses and can strip armor off minions. It's very powerful for how little investment/risk it is.

I played Hades 2 for the first time the other day, and the base dash without the arcana card that buffs it sucks SO BAD for somebody like me who tries to react to stuff. The delay before the invincibility made my first 3 runs so annoying, and once I got the card my life became so much easier.
to me hephie is much like ares, where it seems great on your first few attempts and may even get you places, but as you move on you'll inevitably realize that other gods synergize with most playstyles and aspects so, *so* much better than him

Meanwhile, you know what *I* personally find annoying? Your constant callouts of “write it down!” Like, half the time they don’t even make sense, or are completely unnecessary. Except moros and eos one because their attacks can be really good. In moros, with omega special. You can make it blast pretty fast.

Hephy has an issue of, on its own his stuff is mid. But having his atk/special does allow extra damage with Omega/Cast centered builds.

I got the hephy boon to get to 1 second before, so either they changed it, or he's just incredibly unlucky
