Plymouth was a brand of automobiles produced by Chrysler Corporation and its successor DaimlerChrysler. The brand was launched in 1928 to compete in what was then described as the "low-priced" market segment that was dominated by Chevrolet and Ford. It became the high-volume seller for the automaker until the late 1990s. Plymouth cars were marketed primarily in the United States. The brand was withdrawn from the marketplace in 2001. The Plymouth models that were produced up to then were either discontinued or rebranded as Chrysler or Dodge.
While the original purpose of the Plymouth was to serve the lower end of a booming automobile market, during the Great Depression of the 1930s, the division helped significantly in ensuring the survival of the Chrysler Corporation when many other car companies failed. Beginning in 1930, Plymouths were sold by all three Chrysler divisions (Chrysler, DeSoto, and Dodge).[6] Plymouth sales were a bright spot during this dismal automotive period, and by 1931 Plymouth rose to number three in sales among all cars.[7] In 1931 with the Model PA, the company introduced floating power and boasted, "The smoothness of an eight - the economy of a four."[8]
In 1933, Chrysler decided to catch up with Ford and Chevrolet in engine cylinder count. The 190 cu in (3.1 L) version of Chrysler's flathead-six engine was equipped with a downdraft carburetor and installed in the new 1933 Plymouth PC, introduced on November 17, 1932. However, Chrysler had reduced the PC's wheelbase from 112 to 107 in (284.5 to 271.8 cm), and the car sold poorly. By April 1933, the Dodge division's Model DP chassis, with a 112-inch (284.5 cm) wheelbase, was put under the PC body with DP front fenders, hood, and radiator shell. The model designation was advanced to 'PD'. The PC was redesigned to look similar to the PD and became the 'Standard Six' (PCXX). It had been the 'Plymouth Six' at introduction, and was sold through to the end of 1933, but in much lower numbers. In 1937, Plymouth (along with the other Chrysler makes) added safety features such as flat dash boards with recessed controls and the back of the front seat padded for the rear seat occupants[9]
The PC was shipped overseas to Sweden, Denmark, and the UK, as well as Australia. In the UK, it was sold as a 'Chrysler Kew', the town of Kew being the location of the Chrysler factory outside London. The flathead six which started with the 1933 Model PC stayed in the Plymouth until the 1959 models.
In 1939, Plymouth produced 417,528 vehicles, of which 5,967 were two-door convertible coupes[10] with rumble seats. The 1939 convertible coupe was prominently featured at Chrysler's exhibit at the 1939 New York World's Fair, advertised as the first mass-production convertible with a power folding top. It featured a 201 cu in (3.3 L), 82 hp (61 kW; 83 PS) version of the flathead six engine.
For much of its life, Plymouth was one of the top-selling American automobile brands; it, together with Chevrolet and Ford, was commonly referred to as the "low-priced three" marques in the American market.[11] Plymouth almost surpassed Ford in 1940 and 1941 as the second-most popular make of automobiles in the U.S.
The Plymouth De Luxe and Special De Luxe were full-sized automobiles which were produced by American manufacturer Plymouth during the 1941-42 and 1946-50 model years.
The De Luxe was offered in two trim levels, the De Luxe and the top-of-the-line Special De Luxe.[2] The engine in 1946 was a 95 bhp (71 kW) 217.8 cu in (3.6 L) inline-six.[3] In 1949 this engine was upgraded to produce 97 bhp (72 kW).
Never get tired watching the builds. My model building has gotten so much better since I started building for myself. Big time thanks Chris!
Better and more enjoyable.
Great to hear! Thanks for coming along for the fun!
When its says weathering in the title that's a must watch now! for me. great story on an old mopar.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I enjoy the back stories you create with the builds. Every real car has a back story of how it got to be where it is.
Thanks for coming along for the fun!
Reminds me of all those Hot Rods I saw as a kid. No mater how much work the owners put in.. they could never quite get that final paint job done. Those were the days. Thanks Chris. Nice build.
Very true! Thanks for coming along for the fun!
This is by far the best looking weathered, patina job I think you have done. It's AMAZING, I've been waiting for you to do this kit because I really love the box art and Coke stuff and it's a 40s Plymouth I mean who doesn't want 1. I waited because I didn't want to buy it and be disappointed with the lack of detail and parts like a couple others that will not be named. But it's WOW !!!! Thank you for sharing your builds. Everyone keep yourself, family, and friends safe and healthy and remember to smile.
Thanks Teddy!
It amazes me how you get the weathering look so great. That rust looks so real. Thanks for a great build again.
Thanks! 👍
Fantastic builds and paint jobs aside, I love how you throw in those little back stories to go with models. Keep 'em coming.
Thank you very much!
I absolutely love it. This would make a great diorama car, just the way you built it. Put it on the lift, engine on engine stand, then newly painted body panels from another kit on the saw horses. One new rim propped against a scratch made box, three other sealed boxes, then tires on the tire stand. And, of course, a vintage Coke machine, with crates of Coke stacked against it! I look at the car you built and see teenager's first car, or maybe an auto shop car.
Beautiful work. You really nailed it. Like you, my models have a history.
Thanks a lot as always Stu! Thanks for coming along for the fun!
This kit has gasser written all over it, and I always build the second engines up that come with these type of kits. I have a whole shelf of spare engines to use in future builds. Really like what you done here.
Thanks for coming along for the fun!
I seriously love the tires in round 2 kits, it’s what makes the brand stand out so much. Nothing makes a classic car stand out more than nice pad printed tires.
Thanks for watching!
The 41 Plymouth is a Really nice kit. Builders Beaware the Grille Surround needs minor adjustment but carefull work of test fit. Work and retest fit will make it really nice. FYI on tge Edges where it Glued in I filled it with putty upon Sanding the Detail strip was lost. But I fixed mine w Stretched Sprue Rod. Then Chrome Foiled after painting this was the only Fiddly spot of the Build. It builds really nice
About 98% done. I had fun putting this build together.Would recommend to new builders.i like how they give you extra options like wheels/tires. Bumpers/engines etc. Very good kit
Really nice. Who knew the shabby look was going to be so freaking cool. Extremely realistic and detailed build. Well done.
Love the stories that you give about the builds, they really make the reviews fun! Awesome build, as always!
Glad you like them!
Love the way you build your models,I have learned so much watching .
I took the stock engine from this kit, and put it in my AMT 1963 Chevy II Nova Station Wagon, as it's one of those "curbside" kits. Looks slick under the hood seeing a 40's 4cyl. :D
Yeah for whatever reason they put a Chevy in this kit as the v8 option. I wouldn’t be surprised if the inline six is also from anther manufacturer other then Chrysler.
Aaah, a breath of fresh air at the end of the week, thank you young man
Thanks for coming along for the fun!
Chirs, I love the way you do "weathering" to make something look old. Keep the builds coming.
Thanks for watching!
I am so impressed by the quality of your builds , I love how you create a back story to go with your process it's fantastic ! I want to get a 41 Plymouth kit and some kits of cars from 1953 the year I was born , keep up the good work your videos are excellent .
53 Was a VERY GOOD YEAR 🤗🤗🤗🤗
Thank you so much!
This was a great kit. I built it back in the 70s.
On a side note. 40s and 50s Chrysler cars are great buys. You can find cars that haven't been messed with and at great prices because old Chrysler, Plymouth and Dodge cars were never popular with collectors or hot rodders.
Thanks for coming along for the fun!
Nice weathered look. The cases of coke bottles is a sweet feature of this new issue. Thanks for showing this.
Thanks for coming along for the fun!
Another great build Chris keep those builds coming like the wheathing
Thanks, will do!
I recently picked this kit up. (Not the Coca Cola edition) I decided to make a moonshine runner and use a Firedome Hemi from another kit. The back story is two hillbilly moonshiners in the 50's found this Plymouth coupe and acquired a Firedome Hemi out of a recently totaled De Soto they found in the local boneyard that should have no problem outrunning the law with a trunk full of white lightning
Thanks for coming along for the fun! Nice story!
@@hpiguy always a pleasure
My grandfather actually had a 49 Plymouth (very similar to the 41) with a swapped in first Gen hemi back in the late 50s. It was his street racer. My grandmother painted the car black with a paint roller. Wish he had kept it. So your idea has a legit real world example.
Old school build, nice job as usual.
Right on!
EVERY time he paints, I'm like "AHHHHH TOO MUCH PAINT"! - but then the final result is just right. Cool!
Thanks for stopping by!
A lot of cool modeling techniques are used in this build! I love the video, always learned something new from ya, thank you for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Sweet! 👍 I’ve just finished my AMT ’34 Ford... see you at the diner... 😎
Right on!
A few years ago I built an AMT '40 Ford Coca-Cola salesman's coupe into a '60s style gasser. That was a lot of fun doing all the alterations. That version would have scared the hell out of the salesman back in 1940. :)
Thanks for coming along for the fun!
1963 I bought my first one of these (ended up with 4) - 100% size not 1:24. WOW, I've ordered mine, thanks...
Sweet dude, thanks!
‘40 Ford one of my all-time favorites -
but this is a classic ride too and
deserves more recognition
As always great build my friend! A genuine pleasure watching you build. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you kindly!
Really cool Chris I just love the way you weather your builds. As always great build I never get tired of watching you create another masterpiece. You have truly inspired my modeling mojo.
Thanks a bunch! Thanks for coming along for the fun!
I wish I had as much fun modeling as you do.
All it takes is the right attitude. :)
Just got 14 models at wm $5 each. Got 3 41 Plymouth. Will have to do stock, gasser, and nascar. Thanks for the videos
Good job buddy.
Frank, on American Pickers, loves old toy cars. He especially has an eye for Plymouths. Better watch out, he'll be pickin' you next.
Thanks 👍
Nice look. Planning to put one of my 440 Chrysler engines in mine. Haven't decided on a color yet.
Love the subtle weathering Chris
Thanks for coming along for the fun!
Beautiful Work Chris, thanks for Sharing Your Enthusiasm For The Hobby & if it Applies, Happy Father's Day n God Bless All.
Thank you kindly! Thanks for coming along for the fun!
I just love your builds. Relaxed approach, nice variety, and not super critical on the kits.
Keep it up.
Glad you like them!
Many nicely detailed parts in this kit...
😎 Coca Cola crates with this kit too!!
I think that there must be a convertible version of this incredible mr. Muscle old car. Just get the picture: convertible, cherry red, white interiors and of course, pair of hanging dices. Wow!
I'm not sure which one I like the most your builds or the little Back stories that you do for the builds awesome work man!
Glad you like them both!
"Early 70's ... returning Coke bottles "
I love it !!!!! Great job again !!!
GOD Bless .... 😇👍🏼
Thanks man!
I like these builds. One of my favorite
Thanks for coming along for the fun!
Chassis' that are molded such as that makes up a totally solid body to grab. I am impressed with two engines. Looks like a solid kit with that interior tub plus chassis. A very attractive kit. Front axle? Meh. I like the spraying music. You are the Bob Ross of scale modeling.
Thanks a billion man! I love Bob's style!
Next thing you know he’ll be talking about happy little chrome trees.
A FANTASTIC build job!!... Looks just like one that you might see driving around and or at a car show as a work in progress and or a rolling restoration!!... Keep up the great work Bud!!
Your weathering is top notch! I hope to get half as good someday!
Superb excellent awesome great job on the model
Thank you! Cheers!
Love how you weather your vehicles Chris 👍👍
Thanks! 👍
yeahhhh , kool build .....love that one , keep'em comin'
Robert
Thanks for coming along for the fun!
I really like the weathering on this one. I have never weathered a model before you make it look really easy but I am sure it is not. Look forward to the next build of this kit.
Thank you very much!
😎 Coca Cola decals with this kit too!!
Nice job creating weathering and patina....
I've had this kit and turned it into a 60s style gasser complete with a blown 392 hemi and old school wheels with slicks on the
Thanks for coming along for the fun!
Had this kit on pre order for a while and I cannot wait for mine to come in!
Enjoy!
Really informative Chris, I love your weathering techniques. Great presentation as always!!
Glad you like them!
Awesome build. I did at least three of these back in the 70s, bought from Ben Franklin and Woolworth's
Right on!
Amazing job again Chris. Wish mine could look that good
Thank you! Cheers!
Awesome work, love the build and the story 👍🏻🔥🤘🏻.
I just bought this kit from eBay, probably paid to much for it ($20) but it is what it is, it’s going to become a street “legal” gasser, something you can take to the drive-in, then hit the drag strip. BUT first I gotta build my fist ever trike, the torque trike, then I’m gonna get the milk trike because I have an idea to go with my all time favorite HotWheels casting.
Cool project, works very well as an "in-progress" custom hot rod. I wouldn't mind building this up, take it any direction and part of me wants to build that gas station in the back too!
Cool idea!
Nice kit. Good build with excellent weathering.
Glad you like it!
What a great platform another one of my favorite cars of the 40s great build.
Couldn't agree more!
Happy Father’s Day. I love your channel.
Thanks so much!
Hey Chris, great job. You did it so well that now I want to own an actual one. For me, this is the nicest hotrod you've built so far. Kudos!
Wow, thanks!
Cool build like the story behind it , Would look cool as a Gasser
I think so too!
The seam at the grill surround would be there anyway. So.. no sweat. I like the in progress builds you do! They are always cool.
Thanks for the tips!
Amazing build
I like the way you do things just getting into modeling hopefully I’ll turn out some good work like you
great work! and I love the back story of the car.
Glad you enjoyed it!
My grandfather had a 49 Plymouth with swapped in 1st Gen hemi back in the late 50s. Wish he kept it.
I considered buying this kit because I haven’t found a 49 plymouth (very similar but has a different grill). But I’ll have to find a kit with a first Gen hemi in it.
I do have a partial 70 super bee kit with a hemi….. maybe I might substitute it instead.
What a fun build, another have to get kit👍
Thanks for coming along for the fun!
Hello. I have that kit from about 40 years ago. Of course it is not the Coke version. On that box it says the V8 a 340 Small Block Mopar.
Great build looks good. I really like the weathering you did. Can't wait to see the restored stock build you will do. I hope it is on this You-Tube channel because I don't have a Face book account and don't plan to, not into texting on my flip phone it's a PITA. Thank You very much. See you soon.
Thanks for coming along for the fun!
All builds are here on YT, no hidden content anywhere else.
You do nice work! Enjoy your show alot!
Thank you very much!
Beautiful weathering, sir. Very inspiring. Might have to get back into the 1/24 scale builds again once I'm done playing with the weathered 1/64s for my channel. love it!
Go for it! Thanks for coming along for the fun!
😎 touch that you decided to build the original engine as well as the souped up V8!!
this paint oxidation technique is really cool I'll try it for sure
Thanks for coming along for the fun!
Awesome weathering
SOO KOOOOOLLLL.
I will have to try this one .
You got me at super easy , HA .
Mike Espo .
You can do it!
Thanks for the support , I will order it today , Mike .
This would have made a great Copperhead Road shine runner. Unfortunate they didn't make a couple crates of Mason jars.😊👍👍
That would be cool!
It's Yella! Lol. Thanks for the look. Anyone else getting tired of Coke vehicles? The bottles are a nice touch though.
Thanks for coming along for the fun!
If Coke branded kits sell well then I'm all for it to keep the models coming from R2.
Great video. Love how it turned out! You gave me some ideas for mine. Thanks & see ya next time!
Awesome! Thank you!
And there is no mistaken those front grilles belong to a Plymouth. It's a shame that you don't see vary many in the real world because they really are beautiful and full of caracter.
Yes they are!
Awesome build Chris. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Really love this one.
Thanks for the fun videos
Glad you enjoyed it!
Chrysler Corp which included Plymouth, was the number 2 automaker behind GM. Ford was number 3. Plymouth was an easy driving, smooth riding, well-engineered car.
Great looking build.
Thanks!
Lots of great ideas. Thanks.
Thanks for watching!
amazing weathering!
Thanks for coming along for the fun!
Nice detail love the color can't wait to see the finished product. 👍
You and me both!
Looks Great!!!!!👏👏👏✌
A couple of build options with this kit too... 😎!!
Awesome build love it
I'm glad you like it!
i love that car so much!!!!!!!!!
Hey Chris great job on car hey they need to build kits with figures for the bulldozer kit like the garage kits construction workers and extra's that would be cool
Thanks, yeah those would be cool.
The Garage kits from AMT all have figures.

Thank you!
Great build Chris I can imagine how the guy is thinking about body color and how he will do the interior..
Thanks for coming along for the fun!
Love the plymouth
Really Nice Love It Just have Fun
Seriously killer build Chris I really like the fading technique you used I will be using that in my builds. Keep up the great work and Rust In Peace.
Thank you buddy!
I have an idea of painting it all olive drab and making it look like an old 40s Plymouth military car
Thanks for coming along for the fun!
@@hpiguy I always enjoy your videos
I dig the patina on the old Plymouth though, really cool buddy!
You and me both! Thanks for coming along for the fun!
