André Tubuef in "Opera" magazine wrote:
"Paul Schöffler was his usual wonderful self, as the Music Master. The revelation of the evening, however, was the young, tall, warm-voiced new Composer, Tatjana Trojanos, who displayed the same spontaneity, the same intuitive sense of the stage as the young Jurinac, and she at once won her way into all hearts. One hopes this exceptionally gifted singer will not be persuaded prematurely to sing more demanding (though less rewarding) parts."

Troyanos, as my former voice teacher has said from hearing her while her was in SF and the Met chorus, is THE MOST MUSICAL singer he'd ever heard. True musicianship. Expressivity. Yas

I think this is THE best rendition of that difficult aria that I have ever heard.
The piece is an underestimated killer, and I have heard many singers - among them very good ones - almost break down under its weight, and just barely making it to the end. Others again just produce an overheated and chaotic flow of big, wobbly sound, neglecting phrasing and diction.
The great thing about Troyanos here is that her sound is warm and round, yet contained and very clear; the line is firm, the vibrato narrow and in control.
On the other hand, she has such reserves of power that she - unlike many others - doesn't need to carefully 'organize' her way through the piece, going easy on some passages in order to reach the difficult long high notes. Quite the contrary: she is able to just open all taps, and giving off this big, yet complex and beautifully phrased river of sound, dominating the difficult tessitura with apparent ease.
And I can't stop admiring those beautiful, round and easy top notes in such a lovely, dark mezzo voice...
    Thanks for posting this gem!

What a fantastic document! Truly wonderful singing and music making by everyone involved. One can sense some of Herr Schöffler’s supportive stage presence in this clip as he looks on.
