- Una delle poche registrazioni esistenti del grande mezzo soprano Tatiana Troyanos, di origine greca, nata a New York nel 1938 e prematuramente scomparsa all' età di 54 anni a causa di un male incurabile. La sua forza interpretativa, il colore della sua voce ne hanno fatto una delle più grandi mezzo soprano esistite. Memorabile la sua interpretazione del "compositore" nell' Arianna a Naxos di Strauss. Voce calda, vibrante, sensuale, dotata di eccellente tecnica e di una sensibilità musicale raffinatissima che le ha consentito di affrontare con proprietà di stile un repertorio vastissimo, da Monteverdi e Purcell a Bartok e Strawinsky, Tatiana Troyanos è stata senza dubbio la più importante mezzosoprano del XX secolo.

Divine beauty voice. I recommend listen to her in a Metropolitan concert with Marilyn Horne, Domingo and Milns, with the theater orchestra conducted by Levine. (1980s). You'll find it in TH-cam.

Troyanos was older here, her voice has only slightly ripened... but she was able to sing this aria perfectly.
I have alsways felt that this is a very "naked" aria, i. e. that any decorations will weaken it. Tatiana Troyanos is very wise to leave it alone and stripped of ornaments. The absence of appoggiatura at "il tuo sdegno" is absolutely right, "sdegno" (contempt) is a harsh word and should not be softened in any way. Splendid interpretation at an ideally flowing tempo. We miss her a lot!
