      Honestly, yeah, I live in Brazil and even here this is illegal; you're paying them (or you're paying your health insurance who, in turn, is paying them) to get this exam; you have every right to get your prescription, it's a medical documentation, and withholding these is completely illegal here and can get you, at minimum, a big fine for it

      @@HarleyQuinn-zi5mh interesting to know. I don’t live in the US, so didn’t know that HIPAA was more than just not disclosing your personal info to anyone other than you the patient.

    • @shykorustotora
      @shykorustotora 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I give her 1/5. The reason why the damage from this even was so severe is because the guy didn't do himself any favors. He's 20 and genuinely thinks he's found his soulmate. I remember being neive like that too. He put ALL his eggs in one basket, classic rookie mistake. And expected a chronic prankster to seriously pull a full 180 in a week. I would have upgraded to a 2 or 3/5 if she played it up more, confessing her "love" and leaning in for a fake kiss before putting the chocolate against his lips instead of her own. But dude needs some thicker skin. Sounds cold but thrust me, he's not helping with his heartbreak. Approach relationships like an adult, not a 13 year old hopeful

    • @kp-fc4yr
      @kp-fc4yr 3 ปีที่แล้ว +66

      @@shykorustotora I give her 5/5
      1 for denying that he took the rejection poorly because he made face with her. She should have believed her friends.
      Another for deciding to play with his emotions in general, thinking it would be funny. Inconsiderate af.
      One more for choosing to play this bad prank on VALENTINES DAY.
      Yet another for that specific prank, during which he asked if she was serious (knowing she was a prankster). If she would have been honest at that point, it'd be one less star.
      And for the last butthole point, calling his response to her shitty behaviour an "overreaction", regardless of how everyone in their friend group all openly agrees that she was an ass.
      OP in that story is douchetastic

    • @shykorustotora

      @Preston Whisler You don't get bonus points for acting like an adult. That's par. Look at this guy, he genuinely put ALL of his eggs in one basket at age 20. That's not HER fault

    • @coupledyetivonvanderburg5385

       @Shykorus Totora
      You have literally no information about this guy except what OP, who was trying to make the story sound as favorable as possible for herself, stated. And she made it pretty clear he was a level headed guy who confided his negative emotions about the situation to his other friends so as to not burden her with them (i.e., avoided making her feel culpable). Yeah, he is actually a *good* guy from the sounds of it (fyi, the term you were looking for was "nice" guy).
      Also, the point being made by @Preston Whisler wasn't that he was being an adult, but rather that OP was the one being a child.
      Also also, where are you getting this "soulmate" and "every egg in one basket" bullshit? At what point was that even hinted at? He liked OP, clearly, but that does not in any way insinuate he *ONLY* liked OP.
      It sounds to me like you starred in this exact same manipulative role at some point and are trying desperately to justify your past actions. Guess what? No matter how defensive you get, no matter how you rationalize it, everyone else will think you're the asshole when they find out.
      See? Other people can make baseless assertions too.

      Yeah, that ophthalmologist is running a scam. I hope the OP reports them to their State Board of Ophthalmologists.
      I had an optician get mad at me for having to measure my pupillary distance for online glasses. He had to, since my eye doctor asked him to do it, and but he was not happy. I partly get it, as the opticians make commission on sales. But I'm disabled and on Medicaid. It's literally impossible for me to afford progressive lenses from them, so he wasn't going to make any commission from me anyway. 😂
      Turns out he got passive-aggressive and wrote my script out wrong. I got this confirmed at a second eye doctor, who I had to see for a special test. I have to tilt my head to the left to see out of my right lens well, lol.
      Makes me back up the online places even more. It's a pain to self-measure everything, but I'm very happy to do it as they're so affordable. Otherwise, I just don't get to see. Screw their commission.

    • @Doublemonk0506
      @Doublemonk0506 4 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      It's also in violation of Eyeglass Rule, enforced by the Federal Trade Commission. Eyeglass Rule says you have to get a prescription whether or not you ask for one. You're even supposed to give it right after a eye exam. If a optometrist is employed by the Federal, state, or local government, they are exempted from the Eyeglass Rule. If you want proof, it is on the FTC, it is called Eyeglass Rule

      Here's the short version of a long story. I had a guy from my church ask me to go with him to the movies. I was a little taken aback at first because I hadn't really considered dating him before, but after a moment, I agreed - after all you don't know where things might go and I thought he was nice enough - we had known each other for a while and had both been to each others birthday parties as well as the parties of mutual friends. After I had already agreed and we had planned all the details (movie, location, time etc) he said 'By the way, is Rosie (my sister) able to come?" I was stunned for a moment, but then told him 'no, she's busy'. Even after that I stupidly went on the date anyway (first Hunger Games movie). It was civil, but awkward - no chemistry at all, but neither of us was rude to the other.
      I told my sister about this later and she just scoffed - this guy had asked her on a date only about a week before asking me (unlike me, she was smart enough to tell him 'no'). Yep - that guy had the nerve to try to use me to get the date with the 'better' sister who had already rejected him.
      My point in sharing this is to demonstrate that when it comes to being an asshole - especially when it comes to the whole topic of dating - you don't simply 'forget about it'. Just as I can directly quote his line of 'by the way, is Rosie able to come?', I'm sure the guy in this story could also quote the moment the girl told him to 'lighten up' after so blatantly toying with his feelings (on Valentine's day no less).
      BTW, the guy left our church only about a month later, publicly explaining his reason for leaving on Facebook as 'All the decent girls are taken' (and yes - that is another quote).

    Okay, as I was that person that people often played that Valentines Day "joke" on when I was younger, it isn't harmless AT ALL. It's a terrible asshole move that not only takes something that someone had to gain the courage to bring up, in the first place, but smashes it into the ground when the other person basically makes fun of your feelings. It's very hurtful, and to this day, I still have problems believing people when they give me any sort of complement in a romantic way because of THAT EXACT BS that I was tormented with. It's not okay. Ever. A joke is only funny if it doesn't hurt someone else in the process. That's the difference between light-hearted and mean that a lot of people don't seem to understand.

Further, neither the dad nor step mom had the right to kick the 16 y.o. out, first of all, the dad is suppose to be responsible and care for his daughter, secondly, it is not their house, so they don't get to have a say as to who lives there or doesn't; if they don't like it, they can leave, and thirdly, 2 grown adults have a better chance of dealing with things and rebounding than a 16 y.o., sure they sent her to her aunt, but that is making her a burden to someone else and is very likely to have to force her to do a lot to fend for herself, which will mess up her future.

We don’t like that we are fat, and it is genuinely hard to make a change when you are so far gone. And these jokes hurt even more when you are trying to turn yourself around. I had one local eyeglass place who had an "independent" optometrist doing the exams. One major thing you need buying glasses online is your pupilary distance, PD, the doctor refused to measure mine saying the store staff would do it (his prescription pad had a specific line for the PD) the staff finding out I wasn't buying glasses from them refused to measure my PD for me. I complained to corporate they arranged for a whole new exam. I went in. Doctor was annoyed with me for complaining. Measures my PD. I get home and compare my two, week apart exam results. They're NOTHING alike! I didn't know which one was accurate, probably the 1st one. Contacted corporate, seriously ready to file an AMA for malpractice. A bad prescription could ruin my eyes or cause me to have an accident. They arrange a 2nd doctor to do a THIRD eye exam. This one was closer to the 1st but the PD was quite different. Corporate also arranged a free pair of glasses, any options, any frames to compensate me for the bullshit.My 1st exam was $40 (refunded as well) two subsequent exams $80, glasses in designer frames (they broke during fitting!) with Transitions XtraActive $680. All because a doctor refused to do his job. I'd have happily ordered online from Zenni their stuff ships slow but is top notch and super affordable. But the doc and the store wanted to play games. They lost.

      @Gabrielle Boilard it seems that i'm the only one here that disagrees with everyone on the Mark issue. Is it wrong for you to see an earlier pic of a friend and see how different they look from how you have known them to ask what happened inbetween?
      Everyone else knows the story and understand what's happened or why.... Op in that story didn't... so they asked and were put on the cross for it. that's like going to a friends house, sitting in the living room and everyone giving you a death glare because you didn't take off your shoes when no one told you that the floors were handed down from a loved dead uncle
      To everyone else that knows what happened... it can look like a-hole move... but I haven't seen anyone here put themselves in the shoes of OP to get both sides. Asking what happened is a pretty hard and blunt way to ask " you looked so different back then..... was there something that happened inbetween then and the guy I know now?" That question might of lead to OP finding out what happened and everyone maybe not being assholes to OP.... but when you see an old Pic of a good friend that is night and day from who you have always knew them as.... the most direct way to find out is to ask " What happened?" as it's a bit of a shock to you to see the change and it's only natural to want to know the cause
      From what I am getting... OP wasn't looking to play the part of an asshole and just wanting to the chain of events that everyone else but them knew. You can't be mad and punish someone for braking a rule in a game that they didn't even know they were a part of

Then ask for the prescription and look other places. So we have given them an opportunity, and just found it didn’t work out. But in no way were they allowed to withhold that. Straight up, that is a diagnosis of what your vision is and what is required to correct it. It would be like your doctor finding something wrong and then refusing to tell you what was wrong then when you asked for at least the medication he’s prescribing, him then saying “I can only give that is you go to x pharmacy.” Not permissible. You are allowed to know what is wrong with your eyes, to what extent, and how to correct it. And “terms of service” no. Any reputable doctor would not do this. They don't care if the white-boy's family excludes their daughter from stuff, in fact they probably want it as it'll help their side of the argument about how the girlfriend shouldn't date the brother. How is excluding her going to make her family any less likely to exclude the brother? OP is extremely arrogant in how much sway he thinks his family has over her family, and the only thing to come out of it is this poor woman's feelings are hurt for no reason than both families in this argument are apparently full of hateful idiots. Militaristic Wombat OP actually said that if the gf doesn’t disown her family, then she’s toxic. She said that she’s “not punishing the Indian gf. Just teaching her a lesson” and thinks that she knows what’s best for her brother by taking the gf out of the picture.
      Edit:: people think this is me defending her. It is not. I’m clarifying why OP is a delusional piece of shit. I looked through the Reddit post, and OP is terrible. Was just giving more info.

    i am a massive social introvert, so i already have low self esteem when talking, better yet confessing to a crush. getting rejected basically splits the self esteem in half. the kiss joke would divide it even further, basically killing it entirely. i also use 1 word answers to people that i dislike. the kiss joke is not a joke, jokes are funny. it's as if you see someone crying about talking about her dad's death and someone starts laughing. it kills their emotion and in some cases they act like a different person. especially if their emotions are genuine.

    When I was in Year 7, a boy asked me out. I was surprised as I didn't think myself worthy of any attention from boys... and was very young and didn't know what to do with a boyfriend. However, the boy was cute and I was flattered, thinking maybe it would be a good thing to learn with him as he seemed nice. Instantly, he said 'sike!' and crushed me. I didn't trust guys at all after that and it took until university for me to realise I actually did have some charm about me. That was from a boy I didn't know very well. When I saw where that story was going, I couldn't believe it. You don't do that to a friend, 'prank' or not. It's horrible. I'd 5/5 the one for assholeness based on my own experiences alone.

      I had something very similar happen when I was around 14. I had this crush on a boy. The boy was part of my sisters friendgroup at that time so he came over to our place once in a while. I think I even told my sister about the crush previously (not sure though) but she could clearly tell as the next time her friends came over, she asked me if had a crush on him, while he was there. I got red and stuttered that I didn't. That was that until, about an hour later, the boy came up to me and told me he liked me, asked if I liked him too because he wanted to be my boyfriend (you can clearly see where this is headed). I felt so happy and said 'yes!' immediately. I heard my sister yell 'See! I told you she had a crush on you!!!) while he walked away laughing. They were all laughing at me. That killed me. I get along with my sister now. She doesn't even remember that happened. But something like that just sticks to you
