I think that's a testament to how fired up Messenbrink is on the mat. I mean he almost got disqualified for lack off effort but sometimes the competition is that far above where you don't have anything. He had his opportunity early in the match but after that it was over.
Just watched it again --- over 200 steps backward by Amine. 80-some until he was warned the 1st time, then another 40 until the 2nd call, 70 until the 3rd call and another 24 until the final call.
And I like Amine, but c'mon man. Enough is enough.

The problem with Amine and Lewan is they both will play defense against a tough opponent in hopes of getting a close win either in regular or over time. Neither are ready for someone that has a full gas tank. Amine disappointed me when he bit Mesengbrink (at least once). You can clearly see (close up) that he is biting down on his arm and Mesengbrink even complained to ref (Rivera) and he just ignored him, but he is the worst ref that the NCAA has. Amine should have been disqualified right then and there for that. That is why Mesengbrink gave him a hard crossface afterwards. Still don't understand why he is still able to ref these matches.
I watch the match again too and count 227 steps backwards. Messenbrink is my favorite wrestler and will win the National Championship
He's gotta be injured. I've watched Cameron Amine plenty and this was weird. He didn't wrestle like himself.

Messenbrink wrestles like a savage. The only one who can beat him in college is ... himself. If he doesn't do something stupid and get caught on his back early in a match, no one is beating this guy in the 3rd period. Amine is no little punk - 3x AA. We might be looking at the next 4x champ, folks.

His poor officiating has cost PSU on multiple occasions at Iowa.
@@JadedOptimist he wasent bad this match..yeah he could have called the 5th and dq, but besides that he hit Michigan alot in Matches fairly fast that other refs would have waited on..not my favorite either but there's worse
Angel could have hit him 5 or 6 more times. Amine spent more time at the boundary than he did in the center of the mat.

Wow!! I don't think I've ever seen Amine get dominated like this before. Maybe he had a bad night to have lost like that. Mesenbrink is a contender for the top of the podium. I don't even know if O'Toole can handle this guy.

This dude is relentless with his offense. If Desanto would’ve went to penn st he could’ve probably been like this. Iowa I think stopped him from reaching his peak.

Amine had no gas tank for Mesenbrink….he drug himself back to the center a couple of times, then took a blow holding on to the front headlock….Has anyone EVER seen a top 10 ranked wrestler get DQ’d for stalling?

Is there another 165 pounder with Mesenbrinks motor? The stall calls throughout this duel, and in this individual match were warranted. Can you imagine what the Michigan Boosters were thinking. Carter said it all after the duel in the Flo interview….We could have shut this team out. I plus the O/U on individual matches won by Iowa at 2.5….Any thoughts?
Regarding Carter. If you don’t wrestle the match, then you can’t say what would have happened if you wrestled. I don’t care if you are as good as he is, it’s just a bad look.
Regarding Iowa match:
125- Ayala decision
133- Nagao decision
141- tossup at this point, neither of them wrestling really up to their ability. I’ll go Woods based on ranking
149- Tossup. I’ll go Iowa as Rathjen has a little more experience
157 - Haynes decision
165- Messenbrink major. And Caliendo is damn good too, just really impressed with the Mess
174- Obvious major at minimum
185- Truax decision
195- Obvious tech or pin
HW- Kerk by decision
Your 2.5 looks solid, I would take Iowa for 3 wins since it will be at carver. Who the hell knows, they could get 4, I remember Mark Hall losing at carver to a relative nobody.
Great take on each weight….i truly think Kasak is too much at 149, but Carver sometimes can be tough to wrestle at.
AJ was at the Iowa match last night signing autographs for fans….I would hope FOR IOWAS SAKE someone there has made the decision to move on in it’s entirety. I’m not certain what the upside is to a kid with this attitude.

@@TimM-wk1zx Thanks bud. I haven’t seen enough of Davis up to this point. I would say that he looked solid against D’Agostino but I didn’t see a lot of offense there and D’Agostino looked very old and tired. Ayala has looked pretty damn good up to this point, good attacks and he looks big and strong for 125. I’m thinking he’s too much for a true freshman in carver.
I’m a Cornell fan who appreciates wrestling history so my neutral take on Iowa / Ferrari is this. He is one hell of a hot stupid-assed mess for sure but he is upper level talented and Iowa is going to do what it takes to get him in the program next year. Brands is possibly the most motivated competitor I have ever seen. He is getting to the upper end of his coaching age range, he’s made some coin through his career, and he’s guaranteed fed up with the progressively worse ass kickings. He’s gotta view this as an all-in gamble / opportunity which nets him at a minimum Angelo, and if AJ can keep it together, he’s got that crazy hammer too. The alternative is to keep getting his ass kicked like every other team until he retires, so why not? If AJ burns the house down, I’m thinking Brands says oh well I did what I could to compete with PSU, and he sails off. No other team has any idea how to compete with PSU.
This is why I like being a Cornell fan. We never have the depth to compete with PSU as a team but our best individuals have eaten their lunch, maybe better than any other team in the country.

I am from Wisconsin we have never been given the credit this state is a powerhouse of great wrestlers but most of the best wrestlers go to penn or Oklahoma are state is one of the best in the seventies we had about five Olympian’s

Hey Cam, how about when you have your opponent in that front headlock position, try picking the knee with pressure. Force your opponent to react to you. You might get lucky and not get called for stalling. Just a thought.

amine is absolutely a horrible wrestler to watch he has wrestled like this for year push push move, he should have been a boxer than a wrestler, he might tech wrestlers who aren't any good but people who are at his level he doesn't shoot or is ok with winning by 1 freaking point, this isn't a winning formula and it puts fans to sleep and at a critical point were wrestling needs all the fans it can get this isn't it at a top tier wrestling program.
