Sony bought them for their technology and experience making online games it seems, so they can help other studios develop better online games. At least that’s how I read the story around this acquisition.
Like Sony makes great single player experiences but they haven’t really ventured into multiplayer too much or too frequently, so while games like Uncharted and GOW ascension had online modes none of them were very lasting. I’ve been saying for years now that exclusivity is no longer something people invested in games want. I think that had Sony and Microsoft actually been able to get a deal together 10+ years ago when crossplay was first brought up by Xbox, we would be in a totally different timeline of games and how we approach them today, but it took developers over the course of the last few years basically making it to the point that if you *didn’t* have some form of cross platform ability, you were shooting yourself in the foot to make the big boy companies pay a bit more attention. I think it’s fun to have something like Halo be only on Xbox or Mario only on Switch etc, but aside from those big name one off titles, we really just want to be able to play whatever with whoever. Outside of memes, the console wars are pretty much over. I prefer Xbox, but all consoles are cool and fun in their own ways. And I think most people are at that same point. I really hope that this doesn’t turn Destiny back into what it was in year 1/2, with whole armor sets and weapons and campaigns locked to platforms, and that this is Bungie’s foot in the door to a great studio to start working on animations, shows, and maybe even movies revolving around the Destiny universe. Only time will tell tho 🤷🏻‍♂️

But people are still invested in exclusives which is why they buy an XBox or PS or Switch.
You say games like Halo should be exclusive to XBox and Mario to Switch but that's what they've been doing. PS Exclusives are also like that, they have so many great IP that should stay exclusive to them, especially since PS Exclusives focus more on story/content and gameplay than multiplayer.
Sony and Microsoft studios should continue to make exclusives for their consoles but also be able to make games for both IF they want to.
Microsoft can keep Halo but if their studio wants to make a multiplatform game then they should if they want and vice versa. God Of War etc can stay on PS but if the studio wants to make a game for all platforms, then let them.
Taking away exclusives, takes away competition and challenges.

Weak move for Bungie.. started independent. Got absorbed into Microsoft.. then had to fight for independence, so they could make something other than endless Halo games for the rest of existence.. then they had departed for the very safe shores of Activision lol (total tyrannical control) and they were being forced into making numbered sequels every year. Struggled to gain independence again, and create what they had wanted, when they wanted, (and when the products were actually ready not just to meet deadlines.) And now they jumped back into the teeth of a giant beast, that will tell them what to do, and when to do it..! the press release sounds very nice and assuring, but things will change, they always do. and it’s not always for the better!! Honestly I interpret this as horrible news! I personally like to see as many independent companies operating independently as possible, and not just being devoured by the existing..

You can’t exactly state that these companies are letting these companies work independently after the way things are shaking out with the Zenimax/Bethesda acquisition.
Todd Howard has said all along that he was excited for EVERYONE to play Starfield on all of the usual platforms. Then immediately after the Microsoft deal went through, the first thing they did was make Starfield an EXCLUSIVE! Not a “timed” exclusive, but a FULL one.
So you can’t say they’re going to let these studios continue as “status quo”, when they pulled a move like that. I have ZERO trust and faith in these companies giving a crap about players until I actually see it on a case by case basis.

I never thought I would live to see this day come to fruition. After Bungie broke free of Microsoft and then Activision I didn't expect them to jump right back into another deal like this. I wonder how this will effect the Halo games going forward. Yes, Halo is under 343i and Microsoft's control but Bungie has on numerous occasions worked closely with 343 on new games in the franchise. I believe Jason Staton put some of the final touches on Infinite while working with Bungie. I guess that's probably done now. Oh well, thank God we (fiancee and I) picked up both the Xbox Series X and PS5 at launch.
I was really beginning to wonder if Sony was taking the 9th generation as seriously as they should. Microsoft may have had a slow start but they really got things jumping during the last three months of 2021 with Flight Simulator, Forza Horizon V, and Halo Infinite. Meanwhile Sony has been in one helluva slump. Competition breeds excellence.
*Update- It appears we have an armistice forming on the 9th generation battlefield and that's not good. I guess as long as Microsoft will allow Bethesda games on the PS5, Sony won't steal Bunjie's thunder from Microsoft. I'm sorry, without competition the industry will further stagnate and no one wants that. Greed is a very bad thing.

Sony buying Bungie, but letting Bungie still control what happens to Destiny is going to be a huge letdown. When I first heard about Destiny, the rumors and what was said, made it sound like a good game. Then I pre-ordered it. When I got it, it was a huge letdown. It was a shell of a game. Then they created dlcs, which was suppose to be part of the main game. They litterally tore their game apart and released a shell. Bungie needs to relinquish control of their game to Sony. Maybe Sony can do better.
Microsft acquiring Activision Blizzard. Blizzard went down hill after a while. Their main game WOW became a disaster. They released more stuff, but their stuff was locked behind a time wall, which a player had to pay for. Then the stuff that people wanted got canceled or it was pushed to a low level developer. That is why we got Warcraft 3 reforged. They could have made a lot of money with their Starcraft and Diablo genre. Will Microsoft correct what the people at Activision Blizzard incorrectly made and done with their franchises, maybe.

I just feel bad for Bungie.
Sure they get something out of this deal just like they got something out of every other deal but this is like a parent watching their kid strike out on their own but ending up on someone else's couch for the 3rd time now.
I believe in you Bungie! You don't need no man!

People underestimate just how massive of a game Destiny 2 is. It gave them nearly half a billion dollars in revenue in 2019 alone. And with it gaining more interest again because Bungie finally decided to make actual good seasons, not to mention Witch Queen coming in just a few weeks, I'm expecting them to earn even more than that. Sony would be very happy if they're able to have even just 1/4 return of their investment in just ONE year.

You know if Microsoft and Sony only put out exclusive games to their respective platforms would be a really stupid move on both companies. Since games are going multiplatform having exclusive games doesn't make sense as a profit standpoint. Keeping games multiplatform increases your potential for profit making.

    • @cainabel6356
      @cainabel6356 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Yeah, but they want people to buy their consoles to make more money. That is why exclusive games are done for.
The writer/creator of the games want their games across every platform because they want their money and they want their name out there.
