    It is a pleasure to watch your skills and ability to 'read' the water. Very envious of the pristine streams you have to fish. The freestone Dales rivers I fish are great too, but usually carry some peat staining which minimises the opportunity to sight fish. Interesting too that the Euro methods work for trout, of all species, both in the US, the UK and in Mainland Europe. Good imitations seem to have no geographic limits.. Your videos are always fun AND always educational. Thank you. I look forward to seeing what you get up to next.

    Cory -are you still using a euro fly line for your tight line approach? I’ve been dabbling with tight lining lately and I don’t love hook setting/handling pure mono. If you are using a euro fly line, do you do so to be able to have a handling section or for some other reason? For short range casts, it seems like you’d be forced to handle the mono regardless. Appreciate any insight, and as always, another excellent video.

    • @OldDominionTroutBum
      @OldDominionTroutBum  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thanks so much!
      Yes, I use a euro fly line. Handling it instead of the mono is one of the big benefits. The best advice I can give you is to go outside in your yard and cast to 20ft. You can then figure out how long you can have your leader while keeping your fly line inside your rod. I like fishing farther away, that's why I have a longer leader (30ft). Everyone has their own likes/dislikes-you have to find the leader length that works for you. Hope this helps.
      I talk about the benefits of the euro line here. It's around the 35:00 mark.

      Is he limited to the size of flies he can cast on the 1wt?@@OldDominionTroutBum

    • @OldDominionTroutBum
      @OldDominionTroutBum  หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Not really. Every rod has a sweet spot for weight. The 1wt excels at smaller, lighter flies and light leaders. You can cast heavier bugs easily but the rod is slower to recover.

    Great work Cory, you nailed it again mate. I'm learning with every vid. Question: What is your best advise for keeping weighted nymphs clear of the rod tip ( avoiding breakage) when casing weighted nymphs with a micro leader? Cheers Phil

    • @OldDominionTroutBum
      @OldDominionTroutBum  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you, Phil! Your bugs hitting your rod happen from a couple of things.
      1. You are rushing your cast. When you rush your cast, you become disconnected and your bugs will "jump" or come below your rod tip (a tailing loop). Slow everything down, have a smooth acceleration, but be deliberate and crisp at the end and beginning. Wait until your line is completely straight behind you before you start your forward cast. (This also causes tip wrap).
      2. You are casting straight up and down overhead. Your rod should be slightly off-center.
      Hope this helps. Tight lines to you, mate!

    • @OldDominionTroutBum
      @OldDominionTroutBum  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hey Bill. I have always used Orvis fingerless fleece gloves. The key is to take a small towel with you and take them off when you get a fish. Dry your hands before you put them back in the glove. Hope this helps, and thanks for watching!

    Another awesome video!!
    Wanted to ask, how visable is the Pezon Michel white/pink line compared to say a traditional bi or tri color sighter? Also, I believe it’s ceramic coated, similar to the white Adam’s line I’m currently using. Are you familiar with both to compare? Thanks as always man!!

    • @OldDominionTroutBum
      @OldDominionTroutBum  หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Thank you! Pezon really pops, and the colors never fade. I am not sure of the exact engineering, but it is not ceramic-coated like Adams. The big difference between the two is that Pezon is more supple, and it stretches. Adams isn't supple, and it doesn't have much stretch at all. A supple leader aids in visual strike detection, and the stretch helps protect your tippet, which is what I prefer. Hope this helps, and thanks for watching!

    This is the kind of fly fishing that makes me want to abandon regular life and live by a stream. Cory, have you fished much with other rods (Diamondback, Adams, etc.)? If so, how do they compare, in your view, to the T&T rods you seem to prefer?

    • @OldDominionTroutBum
      @OldDominionTroutBum  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Haha-makes me want to do the same. Alex! I have fished those rods: The DB 10ft 2wt and the DB 10'10'"2wt. In the Adams, I have fished the 10'6" 2wt XTZ.
      Here is my view on all of them and how they compare:
      Diamondback:
      10ft 2wt: Love this rod. Very similar to the T&T 10ft 2wt (which is my favorite rod of all of the Contacts), but it has a bit more power and stiffness. If you were waffling between a 2 or 3 weight, this is your rod. It can cast light single bugs (2.3mm) and yet still cast a 4.6mm with amazing recovery and accuracy.
      It can easily handle large fish. I feel the T&T can do a better job at protecting 7x and is lighter overall, but if I had to choose another 10ft 2wt, this would be it.
      10ft 10in 2wt: This is definitely comparable to the T&T 10ft 9in 3wt (which is my second favorite Contact). I recommend this all of the time if people don't want to pay for the T&T. You can use it in heavy water like the Madison and have no problem at all. It is heavier than the T&T. It is a good casting rod with the same size beads as the T&T, but I feel the T&T is more accurate and easier to cast. The T&T for a long rod is just as accurate as a 10ft rod. I know it is only one inch longer, but it feels longer to me (because of the weight, I'm sure). I can balance my 10ft 9in 3wt with the same reel as my 2 weight. You can't do that with the DB. The T&T is just lighter in hand.
      All this being said, it's a great rod, but I'm spoiled because of fishing with the T&T. I start picking it apart because longer rods start showing their weaknesses. The T&T Contact ll 3wt, in my opinion, has none.
      I know Joe Goodspeed is updating these rods, and I'm sure they will be even better as he will have gotten the kinks out. He is a guy who understands that casting matters. He went shorter this time and I bet it will be an awesome stick.
      Adams XTZ:
      10ft 6in 2wt: This is an awesome rod. If I could get over the carbon fiber handle, I would LOVE it. I'm just a cork guy, it's the old school in me. But if that doesn't bother you, then this is a GREAT rod. A joy to cast with awesome recovery on single 2.3 to 3.3mm beads. Definitely falls in between the T&T 10ft 9in 3wt and T&T 10ft 9in 2wt, as far as power. I like the 10ft 9in 3wt T&T better, but this is flat-out better than the 10ft 9in 2wt (I just couldn't get over the carbon handle). I wouldn't use it on the Madison, but I would in any other river I have fished. If you wanted a longer 2wt rod and one that is definitely lighter than a 3wt-this is a great one.
      Hope this helps.

    Great vid. Halfway through ATM. Question. Do you ever use a similar set up but with only a dry? I've tried but does work too well for me. Seems the dropper really anchors things and you can tight line easier without moving the dry.

    • @OldDominionTroutBum
      @OldDominionTroutBum  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I appreciate it, Josh! You can't throw a dry with a leader that light, as it doesn't have enough mass. I'll switch to a DT or a WF line when throwing single dries.
