Was really looking forward to this review and it definitely didn't disappoint. Like many others I wish they'd release the 2.5 in a manual as it would really be a great daily for the enthusiast. Still a rock solid car for most people.
Matt, Great video and review, The Crosstrek is one of the best cars Subaru has ever made, and I mean that. I don't know how they did it. It is priced right, it doesn't feel cheap, it rides great, great seats, has great ground clearance, it is roomy inside, engine is peppy for what it is. My Mother has the 2.0 liter boxer and honestly I never feel in danger when I merge on the highway, the boxer revs and I hit 70 mph relatively quickly. it is not a sports car, but still something fun about it, handling is safe and great, just a great overall car. Subaru nailed it and they have a niche of doing this from time to time. For the record Mom always had Outbacks but she is elderly and said Outbacks are now too big, so the Crosstrek was perfect, and I sometimes stop over parents house to get gas and wash it for her, I really like it, it has character as well. hard to explain, you really have to drive one to understand it.
Totally agree. If you are able to skip the sunroof/harman kardan, you can get in this for under $32 and it's an awesome daily driver. I'm seeing highway commuting at 33-34 mpg.
This is the exact car I bought - color and all. I’ve had it a couple of months and am very pleased with it. Needed a second car and walked by one of these in a parking lot and decided to check one out.
Excellent review. I own the 2024 Crosstrek Limited and your comments were accurate. I love the vehicle. I didn't go with the Mazda CX30 because the infotainment screen and system were deal breakers. The Toyota Corolla Hybrid and Honda HR-V were just too ugly. I have to enjoy looking at my vehicles!
How is the view/visibility? When I test drove it I noticed the panel above the rear view mirror and it felt like it was blocking my view a bit. Do you get used to it?

That is another thing that every. single. other. reviewer did not even mention, when myself and many other people specifically got the Limited (or Wilderness) just for the option of the upgraded audio.
@@MattMaranMotoring It was a great video. Thank you. Watching it, I was kinda sad to have switched my order but the Wilderness makes far far more sense for my driving, where I live, and what I will be using it for. I had planned on swapping out the tires immediately after leaving the dealership with meatier 235/55-18 Falken Wildpeak Trail tires and bagging up the 225/55-18 Falken Ziex tires till the end of the lease. A tip for that annoying auto play "feature" on the infotainment. What I did on my 22 WRX was before getting out of the car, I'd switch the media to "USB" mode. Doing this switches the mode to USB and since I don't have anything connected to USB for media, nor would I ever use it, it essentially "stops" the media player. So nothing plays when you start the car. Then when you get back in, switch to Bluetooth for the media mode or radio or Sirius XM or whatever you want. Then once done listening, pause and switch back to USB. It's annoying as a workaround but it worked for me. Just need to remember to do it every time
I know that the vast majority of new car buyers aren't interested in a manual transmission. Regardless, it still irks me when manufacturers limit the manual transmission to a base trim and then discontinue it due to a "low take rate."

Matt please review the regular Subaru Outback, preferably in the mid or lower trims. I saw your review of the XT and Wilderness before but I want to hear your thoughts on the regular one with the regular NA engine.
Regarding your annoyance with automatically starting your music everytime you start your car, there's a setting for that to not auto start your music. Your owners manual is your friend.

Another solid review, Matt! Question: Is there any type of mountain grade (or even a large hill) nearby where you can test the vehicles? I, like many people, put a big emphasis on how a vehicle gets up a hill or mountain. In fact, for me, it's a very large factor when it comes time to buy. Case in point: I just traded in my 2020 Crosstrek Premium 6MT for a 2024 Outback Wilderness specifically for the 2.4L Turbo engine to get me up the mountains. I really loved my Crosstrek but, boy, oh boy, it sure struggled going up any kind of steep hill. I'm very anxious to see how the Crosstrek Wilderness will perform. I realize it has the same 2.5L engine that the Limited in the video has but, as you mentioned, the gearing will be different. I'll be curious if it'll be able to climb steep mountain grades any better than the Sport or Limited Crosstrek models.
Thanks, glad you liked it! I don't have any big hills locally to test that, but anytime you're in higher elevations a turbo is best. It's a shame Subaru hasn't made a Crosstrek XT yet, but I'd recommend anyone in your situation do the same thing you did and just get an Outback XT if they can swing it, or something like the CX-30 Turbo that's basically the same price as this loaded Crosstrek.

Matt is one of my favorite car review guys by far, Alex on autos and Jay Leno on the short list too, however Matt, come on, you’re reviewing a Subaru…anyone seriously interested in this car and watching this review isn’t going to care about 0-60 times. Everything else you cover, like rear seat space, head room, utility, fuel economy, etc matters but the one thing you don’t talk about is one of the main reasons Subaru buyers buy Subarus…image. You can get just about everything in this car in a Toyota, Kia, Hyundai, etc, maybe cheaper, maybe with a better warranty but the one thing that sets this car apart from those cars is that Subarus aren’t those cars. Subarus are cars for people who really want practically, sensibility and basically an appliance but don’t want it to scream all of those traits like Toyotas, Kias, Hyundais, etc. for some a car is an appliance. Subarus are appliances for those who don’t want to admit they bought an appliance.
Mentioning the 0-60 time was important and relevant because Subaru offers an engine upgrade and potential buyers need to know what you're getting and not getting for that upcharge. Of all the Subaru buyers I know, none of them bought it for image. They bought it either because they liked the styling, packaging, thought it would do better in the snow for some reason because it's a Subaru, or they're just fans of the brand and didn't really consider much else. Everyone doesn't look at everything the same way.
For crap's sake, blind spot monitoring?? It's called checking your mirrors regularly and checking over your shoulder if you're planning on changing lanes. Don't they teach kids anything in driver's ed anymore or is it all by Zoom?
The screen is the worst part of the new WRX. It's inexcusable that it's so slow and laggy and doesn't have wireless carplay in a nearly $40,000 vehicle. It's crashed and not worked for several power cycles, and in the 22 WRX it still had the in screen seat warmers. Absolute garbage and so annoying that you can't remove head units any more with nearly any manufacturer and replace it with a quality unit.
Consumers: Hey Subaru, can you please make ANY vehicle that isn’t extremely ugly and/or strange looking.? Subaru: Nope, sorry. Never gonna happen. Seriously, Subaru makes the ugliest most visually unappealing vehicles on the market. Over and over and over again.
@@davidmccarthy6061 because I’ve seen 4 cars backed up in the left lane trying to prove a point. I get in the right lane and pass all four cars because time could be better spent going about my day.

Greg video, Matt……it looks fat and overweight - i know it’s the same size, but all the cladding and attachments to make it look tough just made it look silly. The original Crosstrek is so athletic and cool in comparison……..the screen looks like a urinal. Sorry. Subaru is losing its way by trying to be mainstream…….:(
I have never seen an auto-manufacturer literally make every single car ugly as hell (except Subaru). 🤣 It's been at least 10 years and I've been waiting for just 1 car from Subaru to look moderately decent and still not one. Not ONE. Insanity. I know about the old lesbian joke but it's actually becoming true at this point lmaooo. And so many people have Subarus these days because they are so damn cheap. Everyone can afford one. But just so uninspiring. Yuck.
@@rnwnsfla I have a '23 Crosstrek Limited with the same CVT as this. It's actually a super nice setup for daily driving. It's smooth, quiet, always knows where it needs to be, and provides excellent fuel mileage. It's leagues more pleasant than the traditional 4EAT autos in the older Subarus. I am a race track instructor and have driven everything under the sun, and own cars with manual trans, traditional auto, and CVT. The CVT in the Crosstrek is really good at doing what it was intended to do. Don't knock it until you've tried it. Also, the CorollaCross, HR-V, RAV4, CR-V, Civic, Corolla, Accord, and Camry all have CVT transmissions, so it's not like a CVT is unusual anymore. They're in many more vehicles than you think.

They bought it either because they liked the styling, packaging, thought it would do better in the snow for some reason because it's a Subaru, or they're just fans of the brand and didn't really consider much else. Everyone doesn't look at everything the same way.
@locomoco4389... first time I've heard someone who doesn't want to hear how the drivetrain performs and compares to other cars, etc... lol.
Dash tachometers 👍
Giant touchscreen 👎
Especially giant touchscreen that integrates climate and other controls within it. 👎👎
Ima slow listener and this reviewer is a fast talker. Too much, what's your rush? Plz slow down a little.[
touch screen is obnoxious
Lay off the Red Bull bro!!!! You speak faster than the faster typist😂😂😂

the crosstrek badly needs a turbo trim
Looks just like it has since 2013. Lesbians will approve.
Jeez take a hike with that silliness
😂😂😂
What a stupid, ignorant answer
I am a Vagitarian… and I approve.
You do, really approve?
Ban these from entering the left lane in all 50 states
The quickest way to get around this issue is to go around, more time is wasted hoping for them to move over
Why? I've seen some very fast cars clogging the left lane.
@@davidmccarthy6061 because I’ve seen 4 cars backed up in the left lane trying to prove a point. I get in the right lane and pass all four cars because time could be better spent going about my day.
I'll make a little wager with you that the 2.5 liter in the 2021's will run at least 120 😁.
It’s not a race track
First
Nope
Splid review. As per usual I really cannot understand why anyone would go Subaru when compared to any of the competition.
Anddddd its a slowbaru and looks hideous and tail lights dont all light up either typical subaru being cheap and terrible design idea 🤦♂️
Kind of ironic. He spends so much time complaining about the Subaru infotainment system, yet he praises the Mazda which is widely recognized as having the worst infotainment system out there, lol.
Greg video, Matt……it looks fat and overweight - i know it’s the same size, but all the cladding and attachments to make it look tough just made it look silly. The original Crosstrek is so athletic and cool in comparison……..the screen looks like a urinal. Sorry. Subaru is losing its way by trying to be mainstream…….:(
Sorry, but with the exception of the type S the last few cars you’ve physically reviewed, are so boring
Camaro I posted last week was boring? Regardless, I review stuff for everyone on this channel, not just sports cars, sorry.
@@MattMaranMotoringI was actually considering one of these potentially, so appreciate your reviewing 👍
Glad you liked it!
Yuck.
Every CVT is just shit.
you obviously never drove Subaru. Subaru has one of the most reliable CVT’s on the market
@@gearsdan I did not say it's not reliable. It means no fun.
I know what you said. My point of view is no fun to drive. CVT is CVT. Most of luxury cars has no CVT at all. This means big right?
@@ZeGermanHam
It is still the ugliest compact suv out there! 😮
