      crazy how that can happen. IMO it's the extra mass crud on them that give them more to move the wood with but no added tension.
      Also - possible this is just a matter of how it was mic'd. could have been 4 inches closer before... but i'd have been real curious to see a scientific side-by-side

    What a great find, Jeremy was right, if that guitar was played for a month or so, it would definitely
    open up. I can only imagine what it would sound like. I had an old 66 Gibson J45 with the 1' 5/8 neck
    it was one fine sounding guitar.

      I have a new j-45 and it sounds better than the Gallagher. I also think with some major playing it will open up. There's no punch to it. I also have two martins d-35 and hd-28 that are boomers.

    I liked the old strings better, at on least this side of the channel, but what a dandy find. Beautiful guitar and rings out nicely. The age wears nicely with this

    I have a friend who has a Gallagher that sounds like this one. Not what I expected. Doc would probably make a silver tone sound great. Doc has probably sold a lot of guitars for Gallagher. My friend who bought the new Gallagher is still waiting on his to open up. I bought his martin hd-28 and am very pleased with it. My good luck. Thanks to Gallagher.

    Is it just me or did it sound more full with the old strings and bright with the new but far thinner???

    • @earlelfrink
      @earlelfrink 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That is an attribute of a good guitar. Strings last and last until the winding comes off or it becomes impossible to tune them. Then new strings sound too bright and thin until they wear in.

    I’m not a big fan of the sound of this guitar. The newer Gallagher guitars sound excellent. This one sounds really tight and a bit stifled. That’s not a terrible thing. Someone else may love it. Great video though.

    • @mitzioden4926
      @mitzioden4926 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Remember, this guitar wasn't played for 20 years, so it would be tight. It has to be played so the wood fibers will loosen up.

    I think that guitar has a lose brace in it. It has sorta of a dead sound like the strings are to tight. But it still sounds good. Awesome video thanks for sharing.

    I really hate to say this, but being honest: this guitar does not sound good to me. I agree with another commenter that there may be a loose brace inside it, or maybe it needs humidification, because it sounds very stuffy and dead. Hopefully with a new nut, a good setup, and some time in the correct humidity, it will start sounding better.

    • @JeremySheppard
      @JeremySheppard  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree. It sounded super tight and none of us were that impressed. It probably is the strings, this is the dadarrio XS which I really don't like.

    Does it have a pickup? If it does I'd rip it out to get it to sound better. Try different strings, make sure the nut and saddle hasn't been changed to plastic. It sounds like shit.
