- Welcome back to my workshop 😁.
In an attempt to bring you lovely folk some better videos i looked at using my old camcorder (but its far to old).
But as a result i found a load of old tapes i wanted to transfer to digital format.
This video shows you how to do this with a VGB100 USB video device.
I hope this video is useful or at least slightly entertaining.

Really enjoyed your common man video and appreciate the time you took to make it. There seems to be hundreds of these devices on the market which all look the same but have varying degrees of quality. I have 2. I have a black Easycap and a white UVC. The Easycap is better because it captures in 1080p and looks decent but the UVC only captures in 720 and doesn't look as sharp. It can be troubling for consumers who don't know for sure what they are getting but I guess that's the free market with all it's perks and flaws.
Thanks for your comments. Yes it's a minefield of choices with devices like these. You really don't know what you will get until you try. So hopefully doing this type of video can help some people make an informed choice before spending there money 😁. Thanks for watching 😁👍

Does it work if you only have the white and yellow ports on the back of your VHS player?
Hi, just wondering, since you already captured the video with the USB stick, why don't you use OBS studio (FREE) to get the video and audio from it. The problem is that software on the mini-disk is not compatible with windows but there is nothing wrong with the capture card.

HI Frank. How about featuring some of the Records at 20:12 at some point. And the Racking they are on. I need to Rack out my Hallway as It Is Wasted space. Not for LP's that You have, but for Singles. But the Principle Is the same. Thanks for the Tutorial.
I do not understand on the 2 video recorders the image is in black and white. On the other hand with the camera it is in color. How to do ?

Frank have you tried some free video editing software from either Windows store and with the capture device look for the firmware update through some of the freeware site or change the settings in Windows to run it in the Windows 7 or 8 format there's away to do this you might have to TH-cam that but there's a lot of possibilities to run the software?
Hi James 😁. I did try a couple of different free software versions (cant remember which ones) but they were so full of adverts and "not the best" software, so I had to un-install them. I have now transferred all the videos using the Windows 7 machine so I have deffinatly had my money's worth out of this device. Thanks for watching James 😁👍

Great video. Explained better than manual but I still can't get video just sound Is it a driver issue?
Hi Rita 😁. If your using Windows 10 then it probebly is 🤔. There have been some suggestions for other versions of software to try (see them in the other comments 😁). I will need to try some of them but had some "issues" with my PC 🙁 and need to re install everything, so may be a while. Thanks Listened to comment at end about Windows10. Will try another computer but it has windows 10 too.
If your usb ports in the front of pc are not usb 2.0. You will have problems. I had to use my back port for mine to work properly.
Well done Frank you got a step or two further than I did. I bought the gear and never got around to it but if I do I can use your video to help. My computers and laptops are all old so most are not using Windows 10 so I should be ok 🙂

Downloaded all but 2 of my mini DV's last year with it on Win10 perfectly. This year lost the licence key so bought another for a tenner. Just managed to copy them and the same fault occurred. Good while it lasted,. Tested that Debut download from NCH and it worked ok except for a few interlacing glitches.

Thanks Nobz 😁. I'm afraid I can't go back and re edit the music track as all of the original footage is now lost (I had a hard drive failure.. followed by a backup failure And lost a year and a half worth of youtube work 🙁). Try change graphics settings (resolution and stuff) on ur desktop. Might work....

I have this device but it won’t record from the capture screen - I can see the VHS playing on the screen but when I press the record button it comes up with an error - load of crap
Do not capture in 16:9 format when your tapes are in 4:3 format.
Sorry forgot to say try removing the old drivers, donot put the device in the usb and run the driver install as administrator.

Answer to Windows 10 problem I found was to use Debut Video Capture (Free Version) instead of Honestech software supplied. Worked for me.
Thanks Boffee 😁. I will probebly give it a try. I'm still in the process of re-installing all my software anyway as I had a hard drive failure and have had to start from scratch. Also had a backup disc failure so I have lost ALL of my TH-cam videos (a year and a half worth of work 🙁). Thanks for watching 😁👍.
Tried that but didn't get voice or video. Downloaded Debut and then connected camcorder with August video capture. Any suggestions?
@@Sammayval you have to set up the options in debut. Has to be set for composite and pal (if you are in UK). Should be set for connexant Polaris in video and audio settings.

😂 keep calm Colin 😂. I recommend disconnecting everything. Turn of your PC, see in the new year with a couple of drinks, and try again next year 😁. We all know next year is going to be better so when you plug it all back in it will just work 😁 (hopefully). Persevere and you will get it to work, it will be worth it in the end. @@frankslittleworkshop hi Frank, sadly things like this make me more determined to get it sorted. So I'm back re installing it all. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks for the swift reply. UPDATE: Having attempted twice more to get this thing to work I can report....it doesn't. At least not with Windows 10. I note there are some other customers who attempted to get it to work with Win 10 and like me it failed to do so.
The background music is irrelevant and totally distracting. Never use background music for a tutorial-style video.
Hi Frank, thanks for a great tutorial, I am the same as you, lots of mini DV tapes which needed uploading to my laptop.Was just wondering does it have an option to save these files in MP4 as it seems to be the format of choice for now anyway.
Hi Jav 😁. Firstly, thanks for watching 😁👍. As far as file extensions go, I have converted a couple of my tapes now and yes MP4 format is available. So you can easily import them or use them in lots of other video editing suites. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching 😁👍.
