My hats off to Gary Owens, man what a great attitude and not giving up on that KX; he's a Dad who gets the job done. Watching this made me want to loan Ryan my CRF for that race. We just had a son and he can ride/race bikes with us all he wants as long as he tries hard in school.

I wish my dad was like Gary Owens , he stopped helping me with motocross in 2010 when I was 11 it was always new bikes new gear every year, but in 2011 he didn't see motocross as a "profitable investment" anymore, so he sold our motor home and all of our bikes except my 65 and I have been paying for motocross on my own since age 11 it sucks but I'm hellbent on going pro , so he will regret his not taking this "investment"

Qualified 33rd in the supermini class at the ranch last summer, and finished 28th overall and let me tell you i could not have been happier just to make it there and the commitment my family made to get me there. I can tell you first hand that everything about the families and riders is 100% true.

The sacrifices parents will take I've grown up riding from a yz125 to cr250 both bought used for only 1500 a piece though never having the opportunity to compete my parents always did what they could from taking me to local open practices and building me my own track in our field it was all we could do and its the best in the world I've had friends who's parent gave every thing and go broke just to do what these kids drive for for me now being 23 its kinda late I can ride like hell but I just don't think it be worth to start now but I'm waiting to have my own little one I'm giving all I got to see that he can live the experience

I'm blown away it's now 2016 Adam Ciancurrilo has been bitten by the injury gods most of his young career. In 2016 Tyler Bereman is still hanging in there. Ryder D he's still a boy but now he's 12. This sport is the sport that makes me the happiest and I don't even race anymore. I know everyone who comments here feels the same.

    • @tkleven

this video made me cry, i was born to race knew it as a kid bikes were the coolest thing. i race locally, u try dealing with a father who says racing isn't everything, doesn't say good luck before a race, doesn't say good job after a moto, talks about how fast the other guys are..then try and tell me that racing isn't my passion. I love motocross, no one understands til u win you first race, or they experience it for themselves. My kid is gonna my the heart of motocross to give him what i wanted

I've raced MX since the 1970's. My kids raced Ryan Villipoto at Delta Park, Portland Ore. It is a great sport with many rewards. At the same time at least half of the kids who participate at this level are destroyed physically, and mentally by parents who push WAY too hard. Just the other day while my grandchildren were riding at Hard Rock in Florida I witnessed a dad with an intercom system built into his kids helmet screaming at him to go faster. I could clearly see it ruined the little boy's good time... Careful. This sport is for fun. We are not training gladiators. We are training competitors.

I am proud to say that I qualified many years to race the event. I went to many qualifiers on the west coast over the years and traveled hundreds of miles to get to these locations. The bike prep and all it takes to make it. I only went once to Loreta's because of the cost and time off of work that it takes. I went with professional racer Tont Graves and his family. The time there was priceless. This video is just some of the things we go through to be great racers and friends. Never give up.

This is one of the most inspiring things i have ever watched. this really touched me and just makes me think about like how much work and effort people must put in. I wish I could go that far I really do. I dont have a ton of money, but I buy my parts. I work on my own bike. I maintain my bike. I race my bike. I fix my own bike my bike. Its not really about riding, racing, the money the fame the glory. Its about the passion. The passion to do good. To be the best. To do what YOU love.

I am a massive motogp fan....that's what I watch mainly. being British I also watch British super bikes, world super bikes and the Isle of man tt....but...motocross in all its forms is the most brutal motosport of them all. the financial burden these parents go through is insane! I have the upmost respect for every rider on the start line. it takes humongous balls to line up and put it all on the line! I think u have to be a special type of person let alone rider to succeed in this bonkers sport. I have ridden motocross bikes my whole life! when I was a kid if I wasn't riding a bike with my mates I was dreaming about bikes. if you look the word "PASSION" in the dictionary...motocross should be planted in there right next to it! I have four sons now and they all love bikes bit my youngest Chase who is only 3yrs old is crazy about bikes....he has a little crf-50 waiting for him in the garage when he's ready to jump on it! even if it's just riding for fun....I want my children to enjoy bikes just like I did....there is no better adrenaline rush in the world! 2strokes....4strokes....it doesn't matter....if it's got an engine and two wheels...I'M IN!😈
