Sorry it took being your neighbor to discover your artistry. Brought tears to my eyes.
I attended a guitar camp where John was teaching. He said there's too much commercialization and competitive evaluation of music these days instead of just doing it for the joy of it. As an example, he talked about how so many beginning guitar students play a tiny bit, then say...." So.....do you think I have potential? " John said, "If you have to ask me that, it just means you haven't done anything yet!" Haha.....great guy, amazing teacher.
One could say the opposite is true: There are more people than ever in human history learning and playing guitar for the simple joy of it. It’s a global industry worth billions of dollars.
John that was exquisite, flawless, and a beautiful arrangement. Chet would be very proud of you.
this makes me feel so safe, like i'm in the womb again
He has unbelievable sound, unbelievable skills, unbelievable ability and unbelievable hands 😮❤️
It's Saturday morning in London April 17th 2021 and what a perfect way to wake up with a coffee. Cheers 😊
Still listening after all these years, April 19, 2021.
John adds his unique touch to his arrangements. The music speaks like a whispering stream on a quiet day. His arrangements always touch my musical ear like no other. Thanks John
Yes - beautiful
Boy that’s a beautiful arrangement. I love the lower register of that tune. Provides so much emotion for that song. You sir are a master of the strings and so deserving of Chet’s CGP award.
John, you were my classical guitar teacher in Mesquite, Texas in the early 70's in Community College... And I remember how well your little boy played back then.. I'm loving seeing you play again.....
I too took under John at Eastfield College in the early 70's. Just now taking it back up 50 years later!
That was sooooooooooooo good i think i'll listen to it one more time.
I had heard this song many, many times and I thought it was okay. When I heard this solo guitar version, it became the most beautiful melody, I had ever heard on guitar and I play the classical guitar. How I wish I could find this version on D major.
This is incredible. I am not sure how I ended up here, but I am glad that I did. Amazing.
wonderful.
When I get to heaven
maybe I will learn to play like this.
...think I'll start a star list - of things I want to do in heaven.
Number 1 of course is worship Jesus,
singing and guitar also on the list.
what a great sound thanks for making me cry in a good way!!!! i realy enjoyed it
Awesome and fantastic play.

Beautifully played and arranged!
Nice, creative use of harmonies and the full compass of the guitar, exquisite technique, too. 'Scuse me , I gotta go practice ;)
I just went and listened to Chet's version again....
I would rather learn to play your version
because of the base lines you use.
Bella canción dedicada a Vincent Van Gogh.... Bravo!
Beautiful!
good music.
WOW!
Its sounds better in D than G . Great job john
wow!
BRAVOOO!!!...
@donald138 He does have a tab of this arrangement, with the standard musical notes interposed above it for sale. I have bought it from him :) Was lucky that I did , he was very kind and mailed it out
I learned it in "G" like Chet. I think your arrangement has more room for melody and the ability to walk the bass. A wonderful sound and difficult to master. Now I have to learn it in "D".
About a year ago I commented on this video. I've learned a lot in the span of a year, but I spent six and a half hours notating this song the way Chet did it. After extensive study, I've come to the conclusion that John's version is more melodic AND the chord voicings are much fuller. I'm not criticizing Chet, I just prefer Mr. Knowles version better.
Please ! :-) Post a tutorial on your beautiful arrangement. It's the best I have ever seen Please :-)
Very nice
beautiful! is that open d or open g tuning?
This is by far the best acoustic verson of Vincent.... Is the tutorial or tab available elsewhere of this Knowles' version??
Thnx JK
Sabee, Vincent with music/TAB is in issue #7 of my Fingerstyle Quarterly. johnknowles.com/archives01.htm
very best
great
This is great, is there sheet music
agree! michelle carnevale
Chet Atkins plays this song, Vincent, with a much fuller sound and truer to the note by note melody line actually sung by Don McLean, who recorded this song. Of course Chet's confidence shows in virtually every song he plays(ed)!
Actually, this version is a bit truer to the original (at least for most of the song). Chet's version is also fantastic, but he takes a few more liberties from the actual vocal melody of of McLean. You need to listen again! (and compare both to the original) But both arrangements are fantastic regardless.
Who are those 3 people?
Where is this lesson for Vincent? Don’t see it on his website.
