- We took an Alaska cruise in early April - it was the FIRST cruise of the 2024 season and the EARLIEST ALASKA CRUISE ever!
Today, we're in Sitka... and despite the weather we have beautiful sail in, take in some spectacular scenery, and learn a lot about local culture.

In October '23 I was on the last sailing of any cruise ship for that season...the NCL Sun. We got back 10/30. I'm about to board the Bliss at the end of this week to go back and bringing my sister with me this time.
Oh wow! How interesting to do both. Come back and let us know the similarities and differences! Hope you and your sister have a wonderful time
Love the Bliss. Have traveled on it twice. First year while up at Mendenhall Glacier had a bit of a scare with young black bear coming up behind me on trail. Tour guide scared him off. Second year the Bliss was first ship into Alaska. You’ll love the ship.
@GryphTKai1 oh my goodness, we would LOVE to have seen a young bear!
I lived in Sitka 2020/22, as an AmeriCorps member. Yes, there are bears! I always checked the Sitka Bear watch Facebook page , before leaving my dorm.
That is equally cool and terrifying. We are off to check the page! Thanks for watching!!!
We pack our heavy-duty magnetic hooks and clips for every cruise & always use them onboard 👍
It’s a great hack, isn’t it?!
I would say this is a cool🥶video!!😂 We use the magnet hooks all the time.
Great video and looking forward to your next one 😀
Thanks! Yeah, those hooks are a Godsend. Going into our Hall of Fame alongside the cup holder
Sitka is the 'home of my heart', my residential home for 21 years. I'm sorry you were not able to experience the Fortress of the Bears, the Raptor Center, the Russian Bishop's House, and the performance of the New Archangel Dancers!! For those of you who have yet to travel to Sitka, please put these on your 'to see' list. Also, there are several informative tours available.
Thank you, we LOVED Sitka! We knew ahead of time that those things would be closed this early in the season… it was the only way we could afford the trip this year as a family of four! We are 100% coming back and will do what you’ve suggested!
@@TravellingWithTeens we're traveling with our kids in July and are probably only doing a couple of excursions total, because it's just so expensive for a family of four!
That will be two more excursions than we did, for the same reason! Have a great trip and enjoy every moment with your kids
Great episode, the scenery was stunning despite the rain. Loved seeing the waterfalls on arrival, at first thought it was snow on the mountain. The totem trail loop looked amazing to walk around and what a lovely town Sitka is. Thanks for the tip about NCL beans - onions in bean juice🙁. Looking forward to the next instalment 😍👏
Avoid the beans! American baked beans are delicately NOT breakfast food! They’re for lunchtime!
@@TravellingWithTeens We will stick with Heinz 😂
Smart move
Thank you I will be there next week on the Bliss
How wonderful! May should have much better weather. Have a fabulous time!!!
We probably are on the same ship. It seems though there will be raining everyday at every port (Sitka, Juneau, ...) (: :)
I am taking the same cruise in 11 days! Ketchikan is the stop I'm most curious about docking, timings, etc. Did you find it difficult? Also, did you attempt to get off in Victoria? I've used the few videos you posted to help plan our trip! Thank you!
In Ketchikan (full vlog coming 26th May) getting off the ship and getting the shuttles into town easy, but we waited a REALLY long time to get one back. We were at the bus pickup by 11.30 (they said the last one was 11.45) but the line was so long we didn’t get on a bus until 12.15! It still gave us time to look around Ketchikan and see the lumberjack show, but our tip is to disembark early! Victoria (vlog coming 2nd June), we got off the ship and walked into town (30 mins), had a slice of pizza and a Beaver Tail, visited Chinatown and some souvenir shops, and walked back. It was a great little stop, really glad we got off!
@@TravellingWithTeens This is perfect, exactly what I was needing to know! Thank you! We'll be cruising from the 25th to the 1st and I also have two teens; so your videos were very helpful!
@ElizabethAutrey-oq3pu Have a wonderful time, and thanks so much for watching and commenting!
So pretty. What type of baked beans do the english eat?
Beth here. Our baked beans are in a tomato sauce that is much thinner and much less sweet. We frequently have them on toast, or in a ‘full English’ breakfast. Hope this answers your question!
