The best excursion I have ever done in 16 cruises was a helicopter ride from Skagway to land on a glacier and hike on it for about 45 minutes!!! It was breathtaking. The views were unmatched anywhere. It was booked through Royal Carribean last year from Ovation of the Seas. A little pricy at about $500 a person but it did not disappoint. Thanks for all the helpful cruise tips you share!
Thank yooouuuuu for this!!!! Im scheduled for my first and probably only Alaska cruise in October. I was enchanted by the train the minute I saw it and booked it as my excursion for Skagway. I so appreciate the restaurant referrals and economical things to see and do over and above the tourist biggies.
We took an Alaskan cruise to Skagway several years ago. We loved the train ride but the best was the Red Onion Saloon's "Ghosts And Goodtime Girls". Our guide was hilarious as she taught us history on our walk and we ended up at Red Onion to say hello to the local ghosts.
Went on the Inside Passage Cruise in 2017. We did the Yukon Highway bus tour, and we went ziplining. Weather was great and we enjoyed walking around the shops downtown.
Thanks Kellie! We booked the White Pass Scenic Railway excursion (VIP edition 😊) for our August 2024 cruise on the Discovery Princess. If all goes well, we will be in Skagway exactly one year from today! We cruised to Alaska last summer - however our Skagway stop was changed to Icy Straight Point due to the rock slides at the berth where Princess docks. We have our fingers crossed that we actually make it to Skagway this time. Thanks again for the helpful tips.
I'm in the process planning my first cruise and Alaska is the destination. The train ride is the number one thing I want to do in Skagway. You shared some good info on other things to see in the town. Thanks.
We definitely recommend doing the train/bus combo! You get to see two unique views plus you get to stop along the way! www.shoreexcursionsgroup.com/tour/white-pass-summit-rail/aksgwhtrailbus/?id=1294249
We did an Alaskan land and sea cruise in 2010 aboard the Coral Princess. Our excursion through Princess was the White Pass train with the motor coach ride to the Yukon suspension bridge, then, the coach ride back to Skagway with a stop at the Jewel Gardens for lunch and tea as well as viewing the gardens and glass blowing. It was an awesome day. We actually did the helicopter ride to Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau that trip, where we landed on the glacier and got to walk around. That was breathtaking and a once in a life time opportunity to get up close and personal with a glacier. Next year in May, we will do our second Alaska cruise on Celebrity Edge and have booked the Gold Fever, Alaskan Sled Dogs and Exclusive Scenic Railway, so looking forward to seeing the sled dogs and the train ride again.
We did the Yukoner: Half-Day Tour to Yukon through Alaska Shore Tours. It was awesome! Lots of great stops for photo ops. Plus, we saw three different bears at different spots along the road, including one cinnamon bear!
On several Skagway stops I have rented a car and driven to the Yukon, stopping by the cemetery and waterfall on the way out of town. Stop for photos and bear sightings along the road. Prefer to go in May, lots of snow on the mountains and waterfalls plentiful with snowmelt. The Rangers tours are very informative
Boarding the Royal Princess in 18 days for our 1st trip to Alaska. Im really excited about Skagway. We booked a full day tour with Chilkoot Tours. White Pass Railroad up, then bus back with stops for scenery, shopping and lunch. I've seen so many positive reviews of Chilkoot Tours. I can't wait!!
Hello Kelly. The Wife and I Love Alaska and Skagway is Our Favorite Port. Been to Alasa 6 times and always do the Land--- Sea Cruise on Princess never fails to impress.
Hubby & I just got back yesterday from our Alaskan cruise aboard the Holland America Koningsdam, and Skagway was one of our ports. It is a very walkable town and I'd say you have to get a Klondike dough boy @ Broadway & 3rd. Even if there is a line, it goes quickly and is well worth it for $7 and very shareable. I encourage you to try the fireweed taffy and honey there too. The excursion we booked from the cruise was a trip to the Klondike summit, which travelled parallel to a lot of the White Pass train ride, but our driver stopped at several turnouts and let us take pictures at several beautiful waterfalls as well as the priceless welcome to Alaska sign at the Canadian/U.S. border. And yes, the girls at the Red Onion Saloon do put on quite a show.
We will be in Skagway in September, and we are renting an electric car from Klondike electric cars in downtown Skagway and will be driving the Yukon pass into Canada and back! So excited! We love your show btw, keep up the good work!
Hello Kelly, great to see you. I have been waiting on your blog from Alaska. I plan to go in about 2 to 3 years from now. I will go in May most likely. I have always wanted to do the dog sled ride. I hear it is quiet expensive, so I need to start saving now. Great video. I have a friend and her husband leaving on September 15 to take a 10 day cruise on Princes cruise line. Very excited for them. See you next time. Take care
This was a fabulous segment. I am going to Alaska for the first time next May. I appreciate all the Skagway information! Do you have something similar on Juneau and Ketchikan?
Hi Merry! Thank you so much! We just returned from a cruise to Alaska and it included stops in Juneau and Ketchikan. The cruise port guides for those two locations will be published soon as well.
We were just there. Our third time. Always sunny and warm! It was cool and foggy up on the White Pass, but in town was toasty. We ate off the beaten path. Low on tourists, high on locals. No waiting. My husband liked the fish and chips. I got the chili and an order of onion rings. It was all great! Reasonably priced as well. Oh.... It's called The Station Bar and Grill.
The last time we were in Skagway (2022) we took the ferry to Haines and went to the Kroeschel Wildlife Refuge. It was a fantastic day! Steve has so many animals that you don’t see on a daily basis (porcupine, fox, bobcat, reindeer, badger, grizzly bear, weasel…you get the idea). He is so passionate about these animals and you’re able to get up close & personal with some of them. If anyone goes, make sure to take mosquito repellant…they are the “state bird” in that part of the area.
We really enjoyed the WHITE PASS & YUKON ROUTE train excursion. Been there, got the hat! Thanks for the great and informative video. I'll bet Jason wanted to take a Helicopter tour 😂
With the helicopter tour Jason has “been there done that” so that’s not at the top of his list at any port. Lol Now if they were to let him fly- that may be a different story! Lol (Kellie)
We are going on cruise in 9 days and I was looking for ways to get around Skagway if we get tired of walking, I believe you answered my question. We have booked the White pass Summit excursion, and can't wait. Thanks for you videos. Good day🎉
I know this video is 8 months old. Just thought I'd comment that I'm heading there for the first time this coming July and I don't have any excursions planned for this port. This video is VERY helpful! Good Job
Skagway is my favorite place in Alaska.....been there at least a dozen times on cruises and can never get enough.....Soapy Smith was quite a character.....interesting to say the least
We are going next year and i booked the railroad, i want to try and see the show also and maybe hike to the waterfall, luckily holland is there for so long but we will have to see what we can do day of.
We’ll be in Alaska in just 28 days, but sadly, Skagway isn’t one of our stops (we have been there before though). If we were to be there this time, the train excursion would be my choice. I love choo-choo trains!
If you take the White Pass Yukon Train Excursion, be sure to take along a can of insect spray. Wife got chewed up by black flies/gnats but they didn't bother me.
The other day and ship had to leave early due to weather if you used one of these off the ship excursion groups will they interrupt the tour to take a few people back
Is there a way to contact glass works about making a glass blown piece? Every site of theirs (that I can find) is no longer up to date? I was hopeful they were still in business as we would love to make something!
Just a quick question as we couldn’t get reservations in railway but then we booked bus tour for white pass and Yukon bridge so will that be same or different?

Ohhhh there is nothing like seeing Skagway from above!
We love Jason but it is so special when Kelly is included! Thank you Kelly for a great video.
Hi Lois! You are so nice. Thank you so much!

Ohhhhh fun!! Ziplining would be amazing there!
Loved the White Pass Railroad. The scenery was spectacular and the train ride was a ton of fun
It really was! I couldn’t put my camera down! (Kellie)

You have had some AMAZING Alaska experiences for sure!
Did you do the glass blowing?

So cool!
The private train ride. Loved it and we went to the brewery and had the local beer made from a tree (forgot the name of the tree)
I really enjoyed this! An Alaskan cruise is our next must do. This video was very helpful. Thank you Kellie!
Thanks so much Gina!

You are so very nice!! Thank you so much!!
Great video as always looks like a fantastic place which is on the bucket list someday and by the way, great job Kelly
Thank you so much (Kellie)
Came back from our Alaska cruise 3 weeks ago. Loved it! Wish I had had your video before we went... we overlooked a lot.
How was your weather when you went?
@@TheTravelScouts It was fantastic! Only rained one morning, in Skagway, and temps were in the low 70s. We were very fortunate!
Nice!@@lindarescue
Very helpful. Thank you! We’ve done the Train rides and walk around town. On the next trip, we want to do the Helicopter tour.

We are looking at them as well. How did it go?
Great job Kellie! We were just there in May and this report is spot on!
Thank you so much :)
Hello Kelly. The Wife and I Love Alaska and Skagway is Our Favorite Port.

First time cruise to Alaska. Very excited to book the white pass railway!
Great information. 😊😊

Hi Dana! Skagway is a great port to visit. I hope you have a terrific cruise! And, thanks for your kind words!
The White Pass train was expensive BUT SO VERY WORTH IT!! Highlight of our entire cruise!
I could NOT put my camera down. It was so beautiful!

That sounds wonderful. I did hear some joking about the mosquito being their state bird lol
Super helpful! Heading back May 2024
We really enjoyed the WHITE PASS & YUKON ROUTE train excursion. Been there, got the hat! Thanks for the great and informative video. I'll bet Jason wanted to take a Helicopter tour 😂

Going on my first cruise to Alaska (My first cruise was eastern Caribbean) Thank you for all the information about Skagway
I've booked the Chilkoot Trail Hike & River Float starting @ 7:30am for my NCL cruise this October
Have an amazing time!
We are heading to Skagway this September. So far I have booked the Goodtime Girls walking tour. But we cannot wait to see all of Skagway.
I bought a self guided audio tour from Viator. It was $5. This is my second trip. Last year, I took a small bus tour to the Yukon. It was gorgeous
Great video! I am going on the Ovation of the Seas this summer and already booked for White Pass train. Can't wait!
Can’t wait to go back, did White Pass Railway
Thanks for posting.
Thanks for watching!
We are going on cruise in 9 days and I was looking for ways to get around Skagway if we get tired of walking, I believe you answered my question. We have booked the White pass Summit excursion, and can't wait. Thanks for you videos. Good day🎉
We will be in Skagway in July. We have the White Pass railway scheduled. So excited!

Loved Skagway. Walked round it and the historic Skagway Inn was my favourite. And the weather! Better than York U.K. at the moment!!
We are going in June. I think we will take the basic $150 train ride and afterwards tour town and have lunch and drinks at the Red Onion Saloon.
We’ll be in Alaska in just 28 days, but sadly, Skagway isn’t one of our stops (we have been there before though). If we were to be there this time, the train excursion would be my choice. I love choo-choo trains!

We got back in june , ncl shortened all our days on shore :( we had 2 hrs there
If you take the White Pass Yukon Train Excursion, be sure to take along a can of insect spray. Wife got chewed up by black flies/gnats but they didn't bother me.
We recommend Lucy’s Bakery. The cinnamon rolls are delicious
The other day and ship had to leave early due to weather if you used one of these off the ship excursion groups will they interrupt the tour to take a few people back
So helpful

We did the railway.
Any more port videos?
Im Going in October. hope it doesnt rain every day
Just a quick question as we couldn’t get reservations in railway but then we booked bus tour for white pass and Yukon bridge so will that be same or different?
Is there a fishing excursion?
You are so pretty! Watch you all the time!
Awwww :) You made my DAY! 😊😊
The train in July.
