Love the video and can't wait for more of this and more footage of actual LARPing. I've heard about LARPing and love the thought of it. Keep up the good work!
Cheers for watching and the comments. As always let me know what you think Adam. We managed to record the second part as well so will start to put that together tomorrow after work. Focuses more on how to go to your first LARP rather than what is LARP. Hope you like this one. Adam
Always listen to good ideas (and terrible ideas). Let me know what you think of the video. Got the next one recorded as well so will hopefully be able to get that up by the weekend depending on work.
More Empire specific stuff would be cool. Would love to hear some more personal stories about your characters, as that's the best part of these videos. Side-question can you kill someone else's character in Empire and what are the mechanics of PVP fighting?
Joe Conroy yes you can in most systems kill other players. Some systems are very focused on PVP (player Vs player) and others discourage it by having consequences for murder be that a price on your head, or having in game police investigation.
Thank you so much for making this and all the other videos, I've learned a lot. You mentioned maybe making a video of what larp best fits you, I would love to see that. Also, how to start and choose what larp to go to. Keep up the great videos! :D
What are the rules for big battles in Larp? How to determine if you get when you have armour on etc? I watched your go pro video and it looked pretty physical and really fun!
Another great video, looking forward to the next. I'm larping for the first time in August and its good to see I'm not the only old man prepared to dress up and act the loon. x
Another great video, thanks guys! I would love to hear more stuff info about Empire. I've read loads on the wiki, but find it difficult to retain information from reading. Maybe some stuff about the different nations and "races" to play (as I'm still unsure what I will play) Some really indepth stuff about skills and how they work in the game, not just the in combat skills. Some info on rituals and religion would be great too!
Hi Lewis! we've conceptualised YouLARP as a channel about LARP in general, not just Empire! I will talk to the others about doing a video about Empire specifically and talk about what it's like to roleplay different parts of it, but to go in depth about all the skills for the game would take forever! The Empire wiki is rich and deep in both rules and lore, there is simply too much to cover.
Thomas Pedersen Sadly Empire now has a blanket ban on film at events. This is entirely understandable as there are some attending who don't want to be seen larping because of their job etc and while it's easy to ask for a photo to be taken down video is more difficult.
Hi! I've heard a lot about all the combat and how cool it is to roleplay and stuff, but I'm really interested in knowing more about how all the non-combat is filled up? Taking Empire LARP for example, as I'm incredibly interested in going to that event specifically. How much of the event is actually combat? How is the combat explained, like with overarcing stories? What do players do outside combat, and what does the LARP offer? How are different roles affected by these story arcs and how can a new player or potential player (like me) become involved with these stories and all the different roles like general or senator or member of the synog? I know it's a very long comment and lots of questions, but I'd really love to know more about LARP, thanks!
Combat is a part of the event with 2 large battles over the weekend and smaller battles that are called skirmishes happening at different times throughout the event. The combat does not take up a huge portion of the event the main battles being a couple of hours at most. But the results of the battles can have a significant effect on the overall campaign. The event that takes place away from the battles in the tented city of Anvil has a very wide variety of Role-play going on. The in character organisations of the empire meet and steer the direction of the campaign those organisations are: The Senate: the political arena of the empire. Each of the ten imperial nations selects a senator for each of the territories they control (elections range from votes, to auctions, to combat) these senators are all players and are responsible for representing their nation, debating and voting on issues be that passing laws or relations with NPC foreign nations. The Synod the priests of the imperial faith (the way) debate theological issues and acts as the spiritual guide of the empire. They get to decide who can receive a past life vision, they will be responsible for rooting out heresy and inquisiting those suspected. They have the power to veto decisions of the senate. The Conclave are the magical arm of the empire they are among the first to deal with Heralds and Eternals (powerful magical beings) of each of the realms of magic (Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter, Day and Night) I don’t know too much about them as I play a non magic using character The Bourse are the trade arm of the empire and representatives are elected from seats granted to certain nations and from other seats that are bid on at auction. They control the trade in rare goods that are used throughout the empire and beyond to improve personal resources (things that generate either materials or money for PC's in the game) or to build things like fortifications or to raise an army they're a sort of fantasy stock exchange The Military Council is composed of the generals of each of the empires armies and they make the decisions as to which battles are fought over the weekend and which troops to send there. They also decide how the imperial armies will fight between then and the next event. Over all of this there is currently an elected empress who is a player character who has various powers over each of the above political bodies Even if you're not involved with any of the above bodies there's always plenty to do in anvil but the big thing here is it wont necessarily come to you. You have to be proactive and go looking for what you want. Want to be a famous bard? Go sing and tell tales in the many taverns. Want to gather the resources to build a potent magic item? You'll need to go trading. Want to find out what's happening? You'll need to talk to people. Getting involved with any part of the game is as simple as finding someone from that part of the game and offering to help does a general need a messenger? Does the cardinal want someone to round up all the priests of a certain virtue? Make yourself known and most people will help you get stuck in. There’s also the new player meeting every Friday before time in that will help you and answer your questions the reasons for the big battles are decided on by the generals in the military council. NPC civil servants present the opportunities available and the generals make a decision based on the strategic importance and the likelihood of failure. The nations who will be sent are decided and that information is passed down to the player base so they know if they are fighting their IC battle on the Saturday or the Sunday and which day they will be NPC's (if you fight in one battle you must NPC the other) The army is transported through the sentinel gate (basically a big teleporting archway that only works if the organisers want it to giving them control of how it's used)
I know very little about larp but would love to give the dystopian/Apocalyptic stuff a go. Do you happen to have any links for groups in Southampton? Many thanks :)
Film sim is also a type of airsoft game play just saying as all airsoft is lrp as it's playing toy army menz. I'm also not sure saying there are competing post apocalyptic lrps as lots of them are very different (to many of them have rules) and due to the lack of ones in the UK I'm going to a number of post apocalyptic lrps in mainland Europe this year and 2 in the UK.
I have always liked the idea of larping but never really thought about it. but now I really want to try it but I need to find a group as none of my friends are interested any tips on where I should start? (looking at Empire)
Pro Noob Elite the Empire website www.profounddecisions.co.uk is a good place to start they have a very detailed wiki with loads of info about the game. once you have a better idea of which nation appeals to you there are Facebook groups for each nation full of enthusiastic people who can help you to get involved at your first game. Empire has a dedicated new player team and has a meeting for new players before time in at every event.
I lately bought a larp approved musket from larp box. I was wondering if empire permitted the use of musketry in their event. Note it shoots nerf balls
Ive seen one of those they're pretty cool. At this time empire does not have black powder technology and as far as I'm aware there isn't a "tech tree" that can be discovered.
From the style of these videos this would make a great podcast :)
Love the video and can't wait for more of this and more footage of actual LARPing. I've heard about LARPing and love the thought of it. Keep up the good work!
Thank you for regular uploads!

Hey again! Nice to see you, to see you nice!
Admittedly haven't watched it yet, but lovely to know you listened :)

Glad you like them. Cool like the idea. Will speak to the others and put it on the list.
My only problem with larping is the difficulty, not from getting into it, but from the time, effort, and currency required.
Thanks for making more videos :) keep them up :)

Cheers Normeo, What game are you going to play?
Wasteland UK. Looking forward to empire, but got to get some more gear together first.
I don't know much about LARP But it is like a fantasy Real life realm? can't watch all of this now :)

Nice video, fun and informative. I don't know Empire's filming rules, but I'd love to see a video of some out of combat rp in the camp. Cheers.

YouLARP I can understand that. Oh, well.

Jesscrayons great points. I always forget about airsoft as I have never done it but plan to give it a go.
Oh nice. what are the games in Europe like?

@@YouLARP Thank you. Shame it could have been fun having some musketry on the field
just answered my phone at 2:36 :(
sorry not sorry :D
I think your videos could be more... Friendly...
nice video but I dislike the fact that there were no dislikes so thats why I disliked.
