Have you hold counter tension while you were tightening inner rod with that special tool? There is part of steering rod made for you to place spanner tool to counter that tightening force of your special tool. Btw, how many Nms you used for that inner rod? TQ

Yes it can absolutely be done with a crows foot - I found it was rather slippy with that approach & since I had the special tool, I just used it, but as long as you’re careful with your purchase on the flats, a crow’s foot is fine. Nice one. I used a crows foot when I did mine which worked but it wasn't easy getting the inner rod undone. The special tool you used looks good.
