@@anime_cykoAgreed. There were a lot of little things I was nitpicking about the film, such as: the inaccuracy of scissor sharpness when they're closed, how a lady couldn't pull a small table with her handcuff chained to it, how the dad was disabled through the whole film after 1 little strike to his leg with a bat, the back-to-back transition from horror to comedy to horror to comedy, how there was no sight of a gun being pulled out or at least shown by one of the civilians. I even wonder if the cops had shown up, would they have had guns or just golf clubs & bats.

Remember the Thriller t-shirt? At end of the Thriller video, Michael Jackson "reassures" his girlfriend it was just a dream but we see the demonic eye glowing sneer telling us otherwise; similar to the way this movie concluded with only the son (or us the movie viewer) realizing the truth about his "mother" as she turns and looks at him as the movie ends.

Jordan Peele manages to put horror, humor and philosophy in his works, reflections on racism and society in general with a modern and quirky touch, very new this guy, but he's already broken with Get Out and Us. No wonder he got the Oscar for the original screenplay for Get Out.The scene they say they are Americans, the criticism of exclusion, their other "me" thrown at the margin (yes, the beggar on the corner could be you) the reference to the movie's title(U.S). There are many symbologies and reflections.

  • @ericajohnson2529
    @ericajohnson2529 2 ปีที่แล้ว +291

It took a few watches and watched a few interviews to learn that the film is about the U.S. and class inequality and how the poor, the homeless, the outsiders are pushed out of sight. When they ask them who they are and she says “We’re Americans.” It’s like she is saying “we are just like you even though we might not have all of the same things or opportunities.”
    Love the reactions!

    Now… that being said.
Something I have never been able to figure out, and kinda wrecks the whole thing for me:
If the girl is the tethered, and the og girl was on the inside…. How did the process revert for the og girl to still be forced to replicate every single action the tethered clone was doing outside?
Also, how come some tethered replicate the actions perfectly, others half ass it, while others just downright don’t even do it at all?
It’s an amazing concept, but I think the execution was a bit confusing.

Because of that is how she came up with the revenge... The other tether people wasn't able to do that.. she taught them. Now on the flip side, the tether girl really just took the opportunity....

I am a HUGE horror/ thriller movie fan. And what I most appreciate about it is that it was unlike any movie I've EVER seen. I can imagine how difficult it is to do something so unique in this day & age, when everything you can think of has already been done. Loved it!

It's not global, it's just the U.S. It says in the beginning that the tunnels are in the U.S., it's all referencing Hands Across America, and even the title Us carries a double meaning. It's why she wanted to go to Mexico.

The film sets up a society of haves and have-nots. You have two groups of people who are identical in every way, but while one caste gets to enjoy their lives and have agency, the other caste is doomed to wander in tunnels.

How I didn't notice your costumes were together in a Donkey Kong theme in the other video...🤷🏾‍♀️
I think the hat was flipped up and I didn't know it was Donkey Kong.
This movie freaked me out. Peele completely ruined the "5 on it" song for me. Soooo chilling to hear it slowed down so menacingly like in the trailer for this movie.
Can you imagine if you were identical twins and one of you went into the fun house, thinking the other was playing a trick on you, when it was your doppelganger? Do you think with your brotherly dynamic, either one could tell that something was way off about the behavior of the fake twin?

There's a theory that Jason and Pluto were swapped before the movie even began because a normal kid on the beach builds sandcastles, not tunnels. Plus, he has a very eccentric odd demeanor the whole time. And the "normal" Jason aka Pluto couldn't speak because of his severe facial burns.

Having watched this movie again recently, armed with prior knowledge, I was able to delve deeper into its meaning. It appears to explore personal internal struggles, addictions, and demons, and the attempt to break free from these bonds.
The film prompts introspection. For instance, why did Jordan Peele choose ‘Five on It’ from all the songs? Why the twist ending?
My interpretation of the first question is that the song is about drugs. People can easily become attached to drugs, craving more. This, as we know, is addiction. Addictions are ‘tethered’ to us. We possess an innate dualistic nature - ‘good’ versus ‘evil.’ We grapple with our own internal struggles and demons. I use ‘good’ and ‘evil’ in quotes because they are labels we assign to things considered high or low character. Ultimately, it doesn’t matter what you call it, as long as you know in your heart that your actions are right.
This brings me to the second question - why the twist ending? Peele intentionally disorients the audience, creating confusion about concrete matters and the true identity of Adelaide. But a name is just a label. We need to break free from the tribal mindset of labeling and understand that Peele is encouraging deeper thought about this character. Adelaide, like most people, has a dualistic nature. We often opt for the easy path instead of the more difficult, yet right, course of action. Peele wants us to understand that labels are inconsequential. We need to move beyond dichotomous thinking and stereotypes, and learn to unite as one.
