It's still kinda weird to me that Yamaha is doing pretty much zero in this space. they have the Montage and Modx (which nobody talks about) and the Reface things and that's pretty much it.
I own it and love it, but I really wish they hadn't made it a Volca and developed an entirely new product line with 25 mini keys and the 'logue' effects module - plus the features you've mentioned and 6.3mm audio outputs...and last but not least, a freaking HOLD button for the arp >.< ... yeah, I know the OpSix... just... baaahhh, it seems the manufacturers love to create 85% of a perfect product and then chop off a couple of really valuable features (or two of the voices of polyphony- looking at you, Roland...) on purpose, not to make it *too* perfect so you end up buying the next one.
Does this completely override the keyboard itself, if does it work in concert with it? For instance, if I set my keyboard to “Violin,” and then use to Korg, will it sound different than if I set my keyboard to “Trombone,” everything else bring the same? Or can you both completely override or combine? Edit: Whoa! Just checked price! Wow, what a steal!
The young kids do that kinda thing eh?? Not sure about that just because I'm not loaded with cash for a Euro rack! I hate that when people talk trash about the volcas they got me started and the keys is fkn amazing! All the volcas are really nice and perfect for beginners besides the FM2
Nice video! My new FM but the signal from it is WAY quieter with its internal reverb turned off - have you had this experience? The volume actually gets exponentially louder the more I increase the onboard reverb - very strange! The signal is so quiet with reverb turned off that it’s practically unusable. Going to return mine if I can’t figure it out :(
lacking of a proper connection option to pc ( no usb) and a lacking of an officail korg sysex editor reduces value of this synth. i own one but it is very hard to edit presets or create from scratch.
You will never ammount to anything in life but you can buy this and a cheap sequencer and make a whole zelda ocarina of time soundtrack in one evening and call it a day
@@azerkahn Would've been nice if they'd tossed a couple mini-A to DIN adapters in the box. But yeah, MIDI out is worth trading out that DIN connector on the panel. Lets you do more with the fairly-capable sequencer on the FM2.

I got one. Man it does sound good in real life. Glassy with a no hum output unlike some of the original Volcas. Play it with a 49 to 88 key keyboard, hook up to your speakers this thing has multiple levels. Just the Arctic preset alone has about 20 different textures to it depending on velocity. Strangely enough, the $200 paperback-sized modern imitation doesn’t sound nearly as good as the original, at least to my ears. I don’t think Daniel Fisher has ever done a bad demo, always so informative. You rock Dan.
Pre-ordered a couple months ago and still looking forward to it; $169.00 to add 6 voices of FM to my mostly analog hardware setup was a no-brainer!
I agree. Bang for the buck looks to be off the charts. I can't wait for pre-orders to start shipping.

Daniel, you should have your own tutorial on chord progressions with desired melodies...keep groovin'.
Sold ! After hesitating for so long, I‘m gonna make it mine
Great demo of the functions and sounds of the fm2. Thanks
4:54 the Zelda treasure motif.
4:55 sounded similar to the sound that plays in Ocarina of Time when you get an item haha
Definitely waiting on a sale for this one. Great demo!
It's only $169? That's CRAZY cheap. That is a killer killer deal for the money. Good Lord. I might need one.
Funny to see a 6inch volca played on a 6feet keyboard.
How does it compares sonically to the Arturia DX7? Being able to import original DX7 Sysex files is so gold imo.
That Dire Dire Docks patch at the beginning 🧑🍳😘
I grabbed the original one before this update released. 😥
Any ideas on when it officially releases/ships? Feels like I've been waiting forever and can't wait any longer!
Sweetwater told me August even after pre-ordering.
Daniel told me mid-June now.
@@mikemeengs5720 I like Daniel!

They have the DX but this FM2 is probably more versatile. The Reface models strength is their playability though.
this would have slayed with a li-ion bat and usb C functionality.... they hit a triple but easily could have been a homerun

@@PostingCringeOnMain Can't blame 'em really, because of the OpSix. They don't want to cannibalize their own product sales. 😐

Lol

Yes I read about this. I think it's because you are using the wrong type of cable and the sound is phase cancelling. You need to use a stereo cable
I have a question . Where's the bass ? If I had heard a bassline I would have bought it. The happy crispy sparkle is not always what I'm looking for
It has a three ovtave range and there are bass voices.
@@barrycooper9451 I am going to buy one
Has it stereo sound?
yes, stereo reverb

Use the free Dexed as your editor.
How does this stack up against stuff like the Arturia DX7 V?
I see this has a midi out, can 2 be polychained for 12 voices?

Or even an expensive sequencer!🤣
I'd call that amounting to something 😀

Why did they downgrade on the midi front? From 5 pin DIN on the original to now needing a dongle that they don't even include.. Who approved that?
Me.

They replaced midi in with midi in AND out. It's a good improvement.

everything but cant use a sustain pedal with it...smh.
Sustain pedal into your master midi keyboard might do the trick.
I believe sustain is now supported via a firmware update.

100% of awesome music is made by young kids just sayin' 😛
Really??
Not sure the FM is for dub step!?
Can't agree with that at all. A lot of stuff produced by "kids" is total drivel.
