I feel like people forget how comfortable a smaller watch can truly be. Sure, some 40-44mm watches are comfortable, but in the end, smaller is usually more comfy. 34-36 is in that space, and this is a great example!

I know this an old video but recently picked up a 1960's 1500 and remembered this video. I have been wearing my 1016 (bought NOS in 1990) almost 24/7. Bracelet stretch to prove it! the 1016 fits great on my wrist which is on the smaller side. But i have to say the 34mm of the 1500 seems even more perfect for me as i still lead an active lifestyle for being 1 year away from 60. I have yet to get it serviced but once done i will have no issue wearing it any wear i would a GShock. Sapphire has nothing over the pair of Acrylic & Polywatch. My 1500 has alpha hands which are flat and have no "tail". I find the stick hands with their slight angle and size sometimes get lost in the silver dial. The flat Alpha hands are legible from all angles (There is of course no comparison to the legibility of the 1016 .. buts comes close ... as an aside i think that's what people don't seem to get on the new Explorer's.. the size of the numerals and hour markers are larger than the hands which draw your eyes to them before the hands .. which are the first things you should see as with the 1016)). Once serviced the 1500 it will likely become my new 24/7 and save the 1016 for special occasions to celebrate its years of service. Needless to say these older Rolexes stand the test of time and you are bang on with regards to their accuracy and reliability. Finally, I have covered the ears of the 1016 to say this but i do think the silver dial of the 1500 is a tad more versatile when changing straps...there is not one strap color or material that it does not suit. Great Videos!!

My new favorite watch is the Orient President - 36mm, sapphire crystal, screw-down crown, 100 meter water resistance. Dress, sports, casual, it's beautiful, tough, comfortable and extremely versatile. Like the SKX, it's discontinued, so the prices are going up. Amazon had it for $475.00 before going out of stock. Most days I end up with a Seiko on my wrist. I have a couple of cool Omegas and Orient Stars, but Seiko gets the nod most often. Please remember to review a Lum-Tec at some point. They have some great models! I have had only one Rolex. I bought it used from an acquaintance. He told me who had serviced it, so I took it there when the watch developed problems. They worked on it twice at not charge. It quit running afpgain, so I took it back. The watch maker couldn’t believe it was having problems again. Anyway...I asked what he would give me in trade toward an Omega Planet Ocean he was wearing. He gave he the Omega and a check fir $1,800.00. The trade-in value he gave me was more than I paid for the watch. It was a once in a lifetime deal! I ended up far happier!

Rolex Datejust watches have a quick date set feature which allow for adjustment without having to cycle 24 hrs to change date. Cycle 24 hours then continue to 03:00 then BACK cycle to 22:00 then FORWARD cycle to 03:00 again - this should advance the date - REPEAT until correct date. BTW I own two: President DayDate and a 1977 5513 meters first Submariner; I don’t wear either watch- I wear a Parnis GMT, Seiko 5 field, Citizens Blue Angel, or a Timex Expedition. I’m tired of Rolex owners thinking that their watch is a status symbol, causing the prices to skyrocket. I’ll wear the President to special functions, the Sub sits unused. My dad purchase the President new in 1975, I purchased the Sub new in 1978 and have all docs and replaced parts.

I like my Citizen Eco-Drive world time (BX1000) which is a well rounded watch with sapphire crystal, perpetual calendar, multiple time zone support, quick daylight savings adjustment. It has been the most `hands-off` watch I have owned since it is always ready to go and does not need much intervention. Other than that I Use my Tissot PR100 chronometer with 80 hr power reserve, which serves as an excellent weekday automatic. Apart from the cost certification, which yields great accuracy, and 80 hr power reserve, the PR100 is 100m WR without a screw down crown. I really like that aspect because there is no risk of stripping the crown threads.

My grandfather passed down to me his Submariner 116610, he also had a GMT 16750 Pepsi that was left to my grandmother to decide what to do with. She sold it to finish paying off their house. Anyways, till the day he died he wore both of those watches in almost any situation you could think of. Whether it was landscaping, mowing the lawn, fixing the sink, rebuilding his transmission in his Thunderbird or even working in the wood shop he had one of the two slapped on his wrist. He was a Vietnam vet that wore a Sub 1680 over there and wore it everywhere in every situation. He told me that Rolex’s were originally made to be tool watches. Watches that can take a beating and serve a purpose. Only since the 2000’s Rolexes are what he called “Rich boy toys” which upset him because they weren’t made with that idea in mind. Outside of instances where I know I can truly hurt the watch from just common sense, I also wear the Sub wherever I can.

I wear the Oris every day because it can take a beating at home and don't want it to run out of juice because I'd have to unscrew the crown to set the time again.

I wear my Omega Seamaster chronograph/ chronometer. It's big BUT I LOVE the attention and weight. Similarly I love my Sarb. But I do wear a 53 Omega Seamaster automatic 34mm bumper on a gold bracelet, GORGEOUS. those are my MOST worn, having many other options

Thanks for this video. I have watched this watch for a year and wanting to move up from a Tag. I like the 34-36 w/o date. I just want the plain Jane basic everyday, unassuming, please don't rob me, oyster perpetual. My wrist is the same size and it's good to see how a 34 looks on it. This video is perfect snd you now have a new subscriber.

Find myself wearing my Bb58 daily. It just looks and feels great and I have slightly larger wrist at 7.5 inches. My other watch is a silver Tissot PR100 powermatic 80. I don’t wear it as much as don’t love the bracelet but it actually keeps better time than the Tudor even though it’s not COSC certified.

I don't wear a watch. I decided I want to a few weeks ago. In my research I came across you TH-cam channel. Your humor cracks me up, your reviews have taught me a lot about watches. I did just order an Alpina Alpiner 4. I have an 8.5 inch wrist so it shouldn't look too big. I gotta say this stuff is addicting. The more I learn the more it pulls me in. There are many watches I would love to get. Gotta start with at least getting the first one though. Keep up the great channel my friend!

I feel the same way about my mid-80’s Tudor prince date. Couldn’t quite afford the Rolex upgrade but I just like the way the oyster looks/wears even at 34mm (my wrist is about .5” smaller than yours anyway). I need to take it to a watchmaker before I dare get it wet but it’s encouraging that your older oyster still holds up 👍🏻

I wear a Sangin Instruments Kinetic every day. My work can be pretty brutal and the titanium case is great for that. It runs an NH35 movement which is a tough workhorse and easily fixed. Then last is, its a small veteran (Marine Raider) company with a cool back story.

I do not like the modern Rolex but your vintage oyster date is a beauty. I own more than 50 watches and I rarely wear the same watch again the next day, but my recently acquired IWC vintage (btw I have a modern IWC portuguese 7 days but I do not actually wear often) with cal 853 is one of the few watches that I am tempted to wear everyday.

I wore my Oyster Perpetual almost non stop for two years. I don’t wear it now simply because my wrist has got bigger and the watch needs an extra link. I just haven’t got round to getting one yet. My current everyday daily 24/7 is a Speedmaster. The Rolex was just brilliant, very accurate and quite unassuming. I loved it. When I get tired of the Speedie I will just get another link.

This is similar to my Rolex that I bought in a used jewelry shop in Japan. I was stationed there back in the mid 90s when I was in the military. The only difference is the dial, mine it's got that little "stripes" or stamped egdes. Only thing I don't like about it is, it doesn't glow in the dark, not even the hour or minute hands...:)

I totally get u. I’m wearing a Rolex the most days of the month as well. It’s a Rolex Explorer 214270 on a flex strap. Because I’m loving Rolex and I like to be under the radar and this style fits a lot of situation and dresses. But, I also appreciate to have a bunch of Rolex in my collection. “AP as well”😋 And I agree, I’m still in love witch my first Rolex 116200 vinyldial. So keep doin’ it. Cheers David

I HAD a Rolex I wore every day (an Explorer 1016 which I purchased new in 1986), but in the mid 1990's I started "getting into" watches as a hobby and branches out into Breitling, Omega, Maurice LaCroix, dusted off my old Accutron Spaceview, and ultimately gave the Rolex to my daughter as a Christmas gift. Lucky girl! After these years I'm thinking about a Smith's - either a PRS-25 or the Everest to scratch the old Explorer itch.

my collection seems to consist of Seiko's and ecodrives with a few casios and one ancient gold caravelle automatic.. However I have been finding myself wearing a 1980's timex Q on a leather strap... It is simply very comfortable.. I squished a 20mm leather strap and it looks classy.. My wrist is around 7.5 inches I think... 6"0 and 205Lbs and it looks just fine

I wear my Glashutte Panomatic Lunar basically every day. That said, I have an old Oysterdate that I wear often - it used to be my daily driver. It was my first Rolex and like yours, it’s 34mm. It wears really well and is not flashy. Rolec watches have done and gone in my collection, but that one always stays!

I'd rock a Rolex daily, no prob. An ideal daily for me would be very similar, but the 1600 Date Just...very similar to your 1500, but a touch larger at 36mm. I like the smooth bezel with silver dial...looking for the right one... someday.
Current daily is between my Hamilton Khaki field, and a vintage Seiko (circa 1965 Lord Marvel) that looks very similar to the 1500 sans date. I used to wear my Planet Ocean daily for years, but I'm enjoying smaller (lighter) watches these days. Still have love for the PO though.

The only Rolex can be used to show off would be the Rainbow Daytona. Any other models are low key and nothing much to show off. Its too common to be a brand that can show off. People should buy a Rolex for its superior reliability and history and not to show off because someone beside you might be wearing a Richard Mille or Invicta.

In my opinion, one of the features of a Rolex calendar model is a game-changer for me, and that is the instant change calendar (at midnight). I don;t know how many other manufacturers have this feature, but my old Omega Seamaster didn't have it.

Got a Dan Henry as a gift and it has been on my wrist now for 2 months. Really dig this little micro brand. Otherwise my Citizen Skyhawk gets major time as I work with large dogs and they love to knock the hell out of my watch during training. One day my IWC went flying across the room. They fixed it so fast I applaud their customer service. But yes Dan Henry on the front lines and my Rolex’s has been hiding in the safe.

I was wearing my Orient Triton to bed every night because of the exceptional lume, but the 196 gram weight was occasionally bothersome. I switched to a Timex MK1 Steel on a leather/cloth strap. Only 47 grams. The lume is not long lasting, but who cares when you have Indiglo. Around the house, I am wearing some of my newer watches more than the older ones. My Casio Lineage LCW-M300D-1AJF and Bulova Lunar Pilot 96B251 are getting worn a lot lately; but an Accutron is coming shortly. Luckily, the watches don’t get jealous, no matter how much soul they may or may not have.

  • @matthewburden9403
    @matthewburden9403 2 ปีที่แล้ว

The 15010 34mm you have is not from the 1960's but probably made right before the 3035 movement came out at about 1982 - 83, or slightly earlier, which is Rolex's first quick-date movement. Your DATE model has the famed 1570 movement that is just as good as any made since. My Rolex is the same 34mm in 18ct, jubilee, 3135 movement; my everyday is the 34mm Stainless, band-stretched jubilee quick DATE change 3035 purchased new and warrented in 1984 for $575 that still keeps -1.25 seconds per day - serviced ONLY by RUSA at 665. Remember, your Rolex oyster is NOT jewelery but a chronometer capable, along with a sextant, to navigate you across the ocean with the needed seconds of accuracy your sight reduction tables allow. That is the main reason you have the date cyclopsed in your henge, which is also needed for navigation and not check writing. Enjoy your Rolex as intended and cared for ONLY by Rolex for I am sure it will outlive your grandchildren and beyond. Be well.
