I gotta admit, seeing Lopunny's original sprite definitely gives it a much more...curvy look than it probably should. BUT They have definitely caked it up even in 3D. >_>
All this talk of how sprites transitioned into models in the 3DS era makes me think about how many Pokémon cries were made so much less cool in that same transition for whatever reason.
While I personally didn't get to do the Pokedoku puzzle before I got a new one, my picks would have been: *Water type Johto: Lanturn *Water type Hoenn: Gotta go with Swampert *Water type final evolution: If you know me, it's got to be Primarina *Normal type Johto: Furret, because it's cute *Normal type Heonn: Slaking *Normal type final evolution: Porygon Z, which never got to appear in the anime because it's first stage was banned *Dual-type Johto: Ho-oh, partly because it has one of my favorite shiny color schemes *Dual-type Hoenn: Metagross has always been a favorite of mine *Dual-type final evolution: My pick is Revavroom, because I have been waiting to see a Pokemon that's poison/steel, and it also is one of the few things that can learn shift gear
To be honest, I can barely tell what I’m looking at with Relicanth’s sprite. The angle and all the lines on its face make it hard to discern what it is or what part of it is what, at least for me. The 3D model is a lot clearer since it’s clearly facing you and doing more realistic fish-like motions.
The Totodile evolution line is my favorite too! I honestly love his sprite more in Scarlet & Violet because of his cute smile! I am glad to know that there is more than just me that love this amazing Pokémon!
Sableye is one I can agree that has stayed consistently great sprite-wise. My favorite sableye model though is the one from the GameCube games. I love how in Colosseum EVERY POKEMON had a unique damage recoil and fainting animation, and even though they shortened the animations in XD they still look cool. When sableye gets hit it slides back across the field and upon stopping will cock its head and smile eerily before returning to its place. I would love to see a return of the damage recoil and fainting animations in the future.
As someone that had never seen Mega Lopunny before. The fact it just looks like a Lopunny wearing torn Stockings is sus. Devs putting the Freak in Gamefreak
My favourite pokemon is pikachu, yes sounds generic but yellow was my first game. And my favourite sprite of it is actually from Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Time Darkness and Sky, I love the sprites in that game, especially the profiles for their emotions in the text box. If I were to pick a main line game I love the yellow sprite but just wish it was properly coloured in since I prefer cubby pikachu because it makes him look cuter

I really like Meowth's 2D sprites, especially the cute one from Red and the ones from Gen2 where it looks more playful. Where as the 3D sprite looks weird because of the flat head shape and lanky arms that just dangle around. At least it got better with it's regional forms where Alolan Meowth has its arms angled and Galarian Meowth becomes rounder, giving both more expression and character.
Already did it, but I didn't put Feraligatr cuz I already have it in my Dokudex, so I went with Remoraid instead, even though I knew Feraligatr was the answer you were trying to get.
In my opinion Alakazam had it rough for backsprites. It didn’t get good ones until the 4th Gen. While I would say the LeafGreen & FireRed ones were better for Gen 3, I never liked it’s look back then
My fav's best sprite is Yellows. I'm talking about Raticate. Silver is cool too. In 3d it's a bit awkward. It's hands are less menacing and it seems to be looking down. I'm looking forward to a Persian style rework down the line

I never knew about the alternate color Kecleons from e-Reader!! I knew about the Purple one from the anime but thought it was just anime weirdness. Cool!

Something I find strange about Girafarig's model is that it's the only one where the colors are more saturated than its previous sprite.
Interesting that the model’s colors kinda match the 2D art better than the sprites at the time it was put out.

The "kirin" part is the actual Japanese name for the giraffe, so it matches the word play in the English name.
I thought Feraligatr's back sprite also looked like that in GSC.
