@@preciousgems6789 Let me first preface that I am not here to support the convicted nor do I agree or disagree with the judgement handed. I am only here to shed some light towards how criminal proceedings work (albeit very summarily).
It boils down to one point - is there an intention to kill (i.e. the act of committing murder)? We must keep in mind that, in a court of justice involving criminal matters, the prosecution will always be placed on an uphill battle because they must prove with absolute certainty (or in legal terms - beyond reasonable doubt) that the crime the accused is being charged for had indeed been committed. In this case, the question that probably surrounded the judges' minds were something along the lines of "was there real intention to kill or was the death an unintended result of the actions of the accused?". Could there have been some truth to the claims by the accused that the fall (which could have caused the death) was a result of the push which was, in turn, intended to distance the accused from the deceased? Though the 3 blows to the head suggests otherwise, I suppose there may have been some doubt raised in the judges' minds owing to this.
TLDR: Unless the judges are absolutely convinced that there is no other possibility aside from the accused's intention to kill and that the actions suggest no alternative depiction other than that of murder - they cannot convict a person for murder.

Not surprising tbh cause a lot of incels who aren't successful with their love lives will get into this. We all know a lot hermits in Japan who love their favourite exualised female characters. Please beware of much older single man who are into this things. They are probably in it for ulterior motives and parents it is never okay to allow you young child to be alone with a stranger in their house. It isn't even safe to trust your own relatives these days but a stranger is truly pushing it.

While there are so many nice and wonderful people in cosplaying communities there’s also a LOT of predators, especially ones who prey on minors. The sad reality is there aren’t any groups or communities that qualify as being inherently safe, no one (especially minors) should ever let their guard down.
As an anime fan myself it pains me to say this, but ANY anime/Japanese media-related community will have an even higher risk of being unsafe. Groomers knowingly infiltrate these communities as they often have more success at warping a minor’s perception of what is and isn’t acceptable due to the sheer amount of lolicon fanservice that’s included in mainstream anime, not to mention all those gag scenes of male characters being pervs who grope and sexually harass female characters. Groomers leverage these unsavoury aspects of anime to normalise their own inappropriate behaviour towards minors. So minors should be extremely cautious of who they interact with in these communities, especially if there’s an age gap and/or if they ever plan to meet up in person, the latter requires a multitude of safety measures to avert any potential danger.

I'm a cosplayer from Malaysia, and many of us will never forget about this case. When this news first broke out, it genuinely broke the hearts of the community. Back then, it was still a relatively small community and I remember EVERYONE trying to help search for her, whether it be sharing the 'missing person' FB post or physically going out to search for her, the whole community really banded together and prayed for her safe return. I knew people who were friends with both the victim and the murderer, and I remember the massive debate (when he was arrested for suspicion) that kept going on until the news of his crimes were confirmed. Even so, some of his friends still stood by his innocence and it was just such a heartbreaking situation to witness, especially for her family.
It affected the ACG scene here SO MUCH and we were viewed SO negatively by the general public, even my family told me to stop cosplaying. But it also made the community much closer and more aware of everything/everyone, and we (the older adult cosplayers) felt a genuine need to protect the younger ones. We will never ever forget.
Thank you Megan for covering this case. I never expected anyone to talk about this after all this years.

I've met this guy several times during cosplay events, it was so long ago, that time he was a new cosplayer, he tagged along with my friend during an event, so as usual i just befriended with whoever that came along, he was so quiet, and odd sometimes, not easy to talk to, anyway i had a conversation with him, which i heard that he came from a single parent family, he sounds like he doesn't have a good relationship with his father, had some hardships growing up. He just looked like a quiet ,shy , a little socially awkward guy.since then it just hi bye when i saw him, hmm, just feel awkward.Anyway, a year later i left the community to focus on my own life, time flies, i saw he was so active in cosplay and made a lot of friends on social media, and some time later, i saw the missing person post was widely shared on facebook by cosplayer friends(i shared it too), then i remembered i was so shocked to see him appeared in the news as the murderer! All i could say is never judge the book by its cover, always stay vigilant!

While it's not always for nefarious reasons, generally speaking, you need to question why an older person wants to hang out with a younger person.
When we found out that my husband's ex-wife was letting their daughter date a 16 year old guy at 12 years old, I tried to explain to her why it was wrong. I even asked her, at the time, 'would you want to date an 8 year old?' and she looked shocked and grossed out. I pointed out that it was the same age difference between her and her boyfriend. However the boyfriend had her convinced she was "special" etc. Right before her 16th birthday, they broke up. Thank goodness.

Fifteen is a little young to be visiting a 22 yr old man alone, even if it seems innocent. It sounds like she could have benefited from some stricter supervision when she was on the Internet. I don't think a fifteen year old needs to be meeting anyone alone unless it's maybe a schoolmate, and even then, she should check in regularly and have a definite return time (maybe two hours of visit at the most, with mom or dad taking her there and picking her up if it's farther than, say, five minutes away). If I had a fifteen year old daughter, I would insist on accompanying her to a male's house, especially someone she's met online. There are just too many weird people out there.

Sad that the killer didn’t get the maximum penalty for his crime. This reminded me of a case that happened in the Philippines back in the 90s- the murder of maureen hultman and roland chapman by claudio teehankee jr. The suspect was convicted and jailed, but was eventually granted presidential clemency 🥺 perhaps it was due to the fact that the suspect is the son of a former chief justice, maybe…regardless, i feel so sad for the victims and their families as well

Megan, your storytelling truly captures the darkness of these cases, reflecting the gravity of the crimes themselves. I’m captivated by the stories and deeply hope that justice is served for these killers, bringing peace to the victims and their families.🙏🏼

Since the conclusion of the court proceedings, Poon remains in prison serving his 22-year sentence. If he served time with good behavior, Poon would possibly be released on parole in 2027 after completing at least two-thirds of his jail term (equivalent to 14 years and eight months) - wiki
Possible in 2 years this guy will be roaming the streets again... A mask can hide this guy's identity on cosplay events....

When this monster is released, he will only be 44 years old. He is definitely going to commit crimes again, no doubt about it. The justice system is a joke sometimes. I also think Ng might not be his first victim.

Remember, when a stranger invites you to his/her house, please do not intend to go. Make sure you both meet first in a public place and discuss things. So that any sinister gut triggers you can lead you to save yourself and shout for help! This is really a sad case for a young lady with passion for cosplaying. What a loss. Condolence to her family. 😢
Keep safe to our cosplayers out there!!

Not to reduce the heaviness of the crime but what sort of parents let their minor daughter visit a strange grown man all by herself? As much as i love the “world should be safe for women to do whatever we want” that’s not the reality, more like a dream. And the safety of our loved ones and our own is in our hands. We have to tread carefully because the world will do what it wants. Had the parents intervened and told the child to meet this man in a public place or gone with her, this could have been avoided.

When it happened, it was sad and shocking to all of us ....what he did to her is just beyong horrible it also make me see everyone true nature.
As an elder brother, it makes me more protective toward my sibling and the younger generations who join this community. Because behing all those sweet smile might have some dark attention.
Thank you for making this video and bring light to this ...i am happy to know at least her memory is still being remember.

You'd think that in a country such Malaysia, where the Death penalty is a very prominent punishment that he would have been executed. Almost as bad as the justice system here in America. The guilty get to continue living.
