Until Hyundai can last as long as Japanese vehicles and their engines stop catching fire, I'm going w Mazda for longevity. I get that people nowadays dont keep their vehicles for 15 years or 150K miles and trade their vehicles in every 4-5 years, but i dont like throwing my money away like that lol

@@rickboettner1838 No need for thanks and yes, we've got the Turbo (LOVE it!) and no, the fan doesn't stay on. But we've only had it for about 3.5 months and got it in Winter so it's not been anywhere near hot enough to potentially do that. I'd think though, that would only happen if you were beating on it daily and giving the engine regular, stupidly-brutal workouts?

Good review. I traded my X3, which I never quite loved, for a Santa Fe Calligraphy and have zero regrets. It's a pleasure to drive and especially excels on long trips. The 2.5 turbo with the DCT is just the right amount of oomph. I can't think of a thing I need or want from an SUV that the Calligraphy doesn't deliver on.

Looking like the Caligraphy package is my next purchase! I currently have the most unreal 3 seated SUV, Subaru B9 Tribeca Limited. I wish I had a platform to run people through a review of this beast! Turbo'd H6 engine is a sleeper on the road... This review convinced me this SUV is the closest new car to my current ride! For the sake of some of us who are "up in years" (I'm 71), this IS a very good looking car! The interior and exterior looks very good. I've watched MANY car reviews this year (2021) and many have been about this Hyundai "Santa Fe" series...especially the Limited and Calligraphy models that have much more pep with the turbo model. I have seen a few dealing with the hybrid power. Little surprise that it's (the hybrid) a 1.6 liter. I think with the weight of the car on average, the engine section less electric motor area, should have been a 2.0 liter.
The safety features with the cameras and info screen...I bet Samsung developed them due to the two companies are world headquartered in South Korea. That's why its graphics are somewhat better verses the competition car companies.
Now...just a "constructive complaint" about the comments. Matt...watch the word "like". It's one of my big "pet-peeves" when being around people in conversations. In my younger days...I used a lot of "you knows". My mom got so tired of hearing me say that in all my conversations that one day, she stopped me and said: "Tom! Stop saying 'you know'!" "We do not KNOW with the "you knows." Needless to say, that she was a former high school English teacher for a few years before she went into social work, and, she was right. I watched my "p's and q's" from then on.
Now...back to the engine aspect of this "Santa Fe"...I like the tone of it. Reminds me in sound, some of the old Indy race cars of the late 1960's through the 1970's and a bit of the 80's that were powered by a four cylinder turbocharged Offenhauser engine...(the engine that powered a lot of Indy winners in some form or another for decades. A quite reliable motor).
I have a 2004 Subaru "Forester" with about 132K on it. Got it in September, 2003. It's been a good car...and a model brand I've seriously considered with a few other 2020/'21 & '22 cars this year... BUT! It's got that somewhat hated CVT transmission as you guys know. The "dual wet-clutch" model in some of the Hyundai models seems somewhat better. That's a good selling point. My '04 "Forester" is a four speed electronic AT. Been very good with it, let alone treated the whole car with driving respect. No "racing" it ever! I'll just have to test drive some one of the "Santa Fe" cars in Turbo Limited or higher to see, just how good this thing is.
    Thanks for your review, guys!

Great car …. but. I’m reaching out to fellow 2021-22 Santa Fe Calligraphy owners. (2.5 T w/HTRAC) I’m vexed; the Radiator fan will randomly run at full speed for 1-2 mins. after I turn the engine off. The Dealer can’t find any sensor defects in the diag. We live in a mild climate; the engine is not being taxed when this happens. This can’t be normal. Is anyone out there experiencing this issue too? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated - Rick

Rick, I answered you on another channel. It’s almost certainly a system to prevent heat soak from the turbocharger.
Lots of residual heat there, and if the car just shuts down the oil pump and cooling system that residual heat can easily overwhelm the engine and cause problems.
My old Golf R did it almost every shut down if the engine was up to temp.
